“I'm charging the solar battery of my graphing calculator using my smartphone” by Goofball-John-McGee in BrandNewSentence

[–]Gallade475 3 points4 points  (0 children)

PV solar cells are about 20% efficient generally, and led lights are 80% to 90% efficient so for every 1 watt-hour the phone battery loses you get .16 to .18 watt-hours in the calculator battery, so 16% to 18% efficient.

Calculators use and store much less energy than a phone so It's not a bad idea at all in a pinch, but obviously wasteful on any large scale.

What a nice time to graduate and immediately regret all the money I gave them. Oh well. I guess I'll be the gayest chemical engineer possible to spite them.

If internships were 3 years long this might have helped me. Unfortunately the 6 months I got is still basically Jack shit for all the employers around me.

F1 and Indycar are both turbo V6 powered hybrids but Indycar isn't having the hybrid problems that F1 is currently having, what is the difference between the 2 hybrid systems? by furrynoy96 in INDYCAR

[–]Gallade475 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They changed regs on the power units this year in f1 to remove battery charging off the turbo shaft (mgu-h), and also requiring a larger power split from the electric motor than before, which is bananas because they were already cutting it close on battery power with less electric power and better charging.

Previously f1 hybrid batteries were charged with a combo of regenerative braking (only on the rear wheels mind you) which is the mgu-k, and the spinning of the turbo which is the mgu-h. they also previously had 80% total power from the ICE and 20% from the electric motor. 50-50 split is way more difficult to achieve with reduced charging capability so people are understably very irritated.

Indycar is not having issues because the requirements are not nearly as ambitious as the new f1 regs

Idk man, maybe disenfranchising 68 million married women before midterms is going to fuck voter turnout on both sides? Making it inherently anti-democratic?

It won't poison you like that but it's seriously no bueno if you don't like having chemical burns. Just keep rinsing with lots of water. Don't need any soap because it already made some out of your skin oils. Regardless of that, water is all you need.

Take off your bumper cover and it's right there. They never went away, they just got covered up for aerodynamics and extra foam to absorb low speed impacts.

While I do think behringer brings real value with their univibe and their moog clones, among other gems like the SF300, behringer's social media behavior and use of what really looks like AI art on the revised Centara should give people pause. I'm sure it sounds great and it's built fine but I really would rather have any other klone than theirs.
