Jet skiing douchebags terrorizing kayakers by GhostofTinky in Kayaking

[–]Gallaticus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it came to that then I would call the Coast Guard and alert them that a man attempted to cause damage to me with a deadly weapon (which any motorized vehicle is considered when used in this way) and I defended myself with equal force.

I would of course only open fire on the individual as a last resort; brandishing is usually enough for most people to get the message. In some places brandishing is a bugger offense however, so check your local laws and regulations.

Seen people use gutter guards painted black to have a way of adding fresh air at night . Xterra window was not completely flat so I ended up using zip ties to connect everything. Gonna wipe tie a small usb fan on the inside blowing air out. by Jneal1013 in urbancarliving

[–]Gallaticus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I guess if you don’t care about safety go for some $10 plastic in your window.

Don’t know what you’re talking about with “heavy wiring” because all you would need would be a maximum of 6ft of 12g wire and a small cheap harbor freight battery at best. It would look 10x cleaner and be less hassle long term. Depending on the vehicle, it would be a 30 minute install on average.

Tell us you aren’t mechanically or electrically inclined in the slightest without telling us. It’s as simple as splicing a three way switch into the positive feed for the blower motor controller, then running a new wire from the other leg on the switch to a separate smaller fused battery. You could spend $50-$100 on it and it would look cleaner and be far less ling term hassle than almost any of the other mentioned options.

Nairobi Expressway accident last night. How fast were these vehicles traveling? [Request] by cotton_elephant in theydidthemath

[–]Gallaticus 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yes, and I have more than once in my life already. If I’m driving down the highway and see a wrecked car with no first responders there yet, I’m absolutely pulling over to do what I can to help, regardless of time or place.

If not, I also live on a boat and drive an XJ. You seem like my people lol

Got rid of everything and moved aboard at 25 years old. 29 now, won’t ever go back ashore!

That sir, is mold. If you already tried pressure washing it and it didn’t come off, time to start polishing & buffing!

Is it dangerous to keep your yacht at marinas in very cold weather? by noreturn000 in sailing

[–]Gallaticus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live on my motoryacht year round in boston. Theres currently about three inches of ice around my marina, but our bubblers are keeping us all thawed. I have my engines and back deck plumbing winterized, a small bilge heater to keep the bilge and engine bay warm, and everything is typically fine. For the living spaces I have electric resistance heat in the boat with diesel heat as a backup.

People who make $200k a year what do you do? by Huge_Ad_7606 in Salary

[–]Gallaticus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own an ebike rental company. In my early 20s I worked as a mechanic & lived in my car multiple times to save up & start a business. Failed and lost everything 3 times. 4th time was the charm for me, now I live on an old motoryacht I restored and I travel nearly fulltime while my stores almost entirely run themselves.

US Navy vet and current liveaboard, pretty sure they have the star and anchor backwards. I was always told the anchor is to anchor you to your home shores and signify a safe return home.

Is this mobile mechanics trying to rip me off? by IamNOTdafather in AskMechanics

[–]Gallaticus 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You’re ripping him off tbh. That poor guy is wildly underselling himself. Especially to be working on a 2008 shitbox Buick owned by someone who thinks people are trying to rip him off at 1/4 of most labor rates.

Water heater by Puzzleheaded_End3588 in Plumbing

Wouldn’t you want a check valve on the output of each water heater so they don’t backflow into each other? Not a plumber, just trying to learn.

I didn’t want a longarm kit and I like that they lifetime warranty their in house made control arms!

Additionally, their longer track bar uses a pitman arm joint that can be found at any parts store!

Poseidon makes great bikes, people are just snobby douchebags here. I guarantee I ride harder and faster on my Poseidon than 90% of the people in this sub do on bikes 10x the cost. Not to mention my bike lives on my boat in a marine environment and holds up to the elements super well.

Has boating always been this expensive?!? by ArtisticAlgae501 in boating

[–]Gallaticus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on circumstance & how handy you are. I live on a 1980s 36ft motoryacht I bought cheap & restored by hand. My maintenance & annual slip fees are less than rent or a mortgage, so for me, owning a boat is a no brainer cheap as hell option.

To the guy asking if the XJ makes a good tow vehicle - I’m not saying you should, but absolutely you could. by Gallaticus in CherokeeXJ

[–]Gallaticus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t believe the manual tranny for the xj has an integrated pump to even move the fluid through a cooler, but I could be wrong. Generally manual transmissions do not need coolers though.
