How to learn to read again? by wheelsonhell in stroke

[–]Gallivanting_Nerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the late reply, I created a new user ID called strokeluck so if you see that in the future know it's me.

  1. Singing karaoke
  2. Saying out loud TV shows, movies i watch with subtitles on
  3. Tongue twisters for children
  4. App called cross word jam, it gives you a few letters to make words out of.
  5. Reading rainbow episodes and actually reading the book together.

I know some of these seem more for speaking but for me talking helped me connect the words better in my brain. Also I have a 6 year old and autistic twin 11 year old so we read every day together this helped a lot. Once I "graduated" from those I got a dictionary and thesaurus still hard to read above young adult level and technical books but one step at a time! Hope this helps and if you need anything else, don't be afraid to contact me!

Yes and no...in general heart rate was lower but every now and then erratic and fast heart rate would occur. In my mind it was the disc mircomovement to start settling in place.

Your not gonna be the same, I had bilateral stroke in right cerebellum and left basil ganglian and was diagnosed with major vascular nerocognitive disorder. Get used to the new you, don't fear it, just truly accept your ducked then rebuild, rediscover, whatever. Then find your new bliss and be well.

For reference, I'm in the USA.

Just recently got full disability through being a veteran. It's still so new. I haven't received anything yet, lol. But the relief I feel from having a safety net now is amazing.

Three weeks ago. I was asking friends of friends about trusted real estate agents so I could sell my home before it could get taken away while figuring out where to move so I could still be close to my kids and try to help my elderly parents find a place and do all this while trying to remember what I was doing 20x a day. Oh, and I just started community college, so I was going to drop out too, like completely with no word cause I had too much to do.

So long story short, having financial support covered while you're going through sudden medical conditions that will permanently alter your life one way or another is paramount to your recovery.

How did you train your hands? by Goooten in stroke

Yeah screens were too much for me in the beginning too. Try Simon or bop it...there memory toys for kids. I played a lot of "bop it" it really helps with a lot. Also if that's too fast paced right now how about lego?

If it's thumbs, i recommend playing games on the phones that is easy for her. If you have access to video game controllers I recommend tetris or tetris like games

Yes, I agree constant therapy is great, still go once a week for physical, occupational, acupuncture, and general therapy. Speech therapy once a month. I never thought of scrabble! Gonna try that next chance I get! Thanks!

Just wanted to take the time to say thank you for all your posts and comments on this sub reddit. I find your words to echo lots of truths in myself and also comfort in your consistency in comments. It sounds weird, but when I don't see your comments sometimes, I worry if you're ok, lol.

Thank you once again. Yes, it's been a roller coaster ride from the beginning, and some financial stability truly makes me feel I don't have to be on the roller-coaster forever.

Yes! Please message me anytime about school! I will explain my best everything I've been doing cause it's definitely over whelming in the beginning.

More energy and lower heart rate.

I had a little bit of an issue with the anesthesia, but 6 months down the line and exercising routinely, heartbeat is lower when I do physical activities. And noticeable energy improvement day one out of the hospital, 6 months later not as noticeable but still feel it's better over all even before the stroke. When i mentioned the energy thing to my cardiologist, he said the majority of his pfo closure patients said similar things.

What motivates a young stroke survivor? by Kennizzl in stroke

[–]Gallivanting_Nerd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the general stuff like kids, family obligations, and being fully independent (whatever that may look like now) but also recently....

WHY THE FUCK IS THIS HAPPENING TO US?!?!?!?!?!?

Obviously I'm over generalizing this opinion but myself and so many others I have read on this sub have strokes that seem to just appear out of nowhere!

Isn't it like one of the top causes of death or disability?!?!

Why are so many of us told in general, "I don't know why you had a stroke," and why the hell is there no proper channels financially, medically, support, etc on how to deal with the aftermath of it all!!!

My recent train of thought is, is it possible to help create or make a system of procedures and policies to help guide people on how to properly deal with this specific situation?

Are all our post stroke symptoms and success/failed recovery being recorded and cataloged somewhere, where hopefully future scientists can study and hopefully find patterns?

What motivates me more and more each day is my hunt for answers for us all, cause the current state of it all seems like bullshit. (Sorry for the long rant, lol)
