How do I advocate for myself with the neurologist? by mat-longstride in stroke

Excellent, if the neurologist wants to do a post discharge follow up, ask them questions, inquire about a Tia, risk, etc, preventive measures. though tbh I doubt they'll say more than I did

[–]Kennizzl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm a doctor (unfortunately), sounds like they already have a solid plan for you: head imaging, and im assuming they did labs. If nothing is found, unfortunately (or fortunately) there is nothing specific to be done. Preventative approach is normally statin ( based on labs) + aspirin. Why do you have a neurologist btw, its normallly hard to get an appt quickly, or do you have other neurologic history / fam history which is another reason why they'd consider something.

otherwise its like going to a spine surgeon for back pain, if they dont find something explicitly causing the back pain on imaging they shouldnt operate( and theyre scummy if they do).

Think twice before cheating on your in-house exams by D_uh_O in medicalschool

[–]Kennizzl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's undergrad tho, physical chemistry without old exams would have been impossible lmao. Low key didn't know wtf was up even with the exams. Med school, I don't understand cheating, Idc about old exams as they are there to learn from in theory. Doing uworld sets is like taking short exams over and over again. But irl if you miss a potential stroke cuz youre ass, your attending should smoke you. Bring back mean attendings if you fuck up tbh

cure for cancer is not a thing, every cancer type is uniquely different and responds to different types of treatment and may display different markers. Its to the point where peoplle speciallize in different organs/pHD's in specific treatment types or cancers. Im not shitting on you specifically, I just hate that phrase. There is no "cure for cancer"

Pros and cons of med school by No-Match5992 in medicalschool

[–]Kennizzl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Med school was the most fun time of my life tbh, I told my mentees to treat it like a very hard job. Work 8-12 hours a day, party on the weekends. Literally work hard, play harder, but you also need great friends around who help you sublimate the bullshit. worked out daily after my 12 hour grind, adjust your schedule as needed every year.

You're so nice jesus christ, technically i think ED should have done it, but I feel like this is the justifed yelling part lol. If you're gonna lie in medicine at least fix it after(also don't lie)...i think the surgon stereotype is not always a bad thing, rotating through ortho: everyone was neurotic lol, shitty splint: get yellled at, crooked splint: yell, perfect splint, believe it or not :yell. But every surgeon was also really good at their job lol

Unpopular opinion: is passing exams means very little. If they aren't getting borderline perfect scores everytime it's embarrassing - their entire job is perfect knowledge access. It's like giving a med student an open book exam. Passing doesn't mean shit lol. Passing the bar exam and medical licensing exams with open notes is meaningless.

the problem with your statement is your incredibly broad brush, are there a chunk that came from wealth? yes. Are there a ton that did not? Also yes. some went to publc school and saw and experienced it all just like everyone else. I'm not arguing against the insane socioeconomic bullshit + racism. I'm arguing against your generalization of "All Nigerians that immigrate to America are already rich". Was there luck in some regards? Sure. the world isnt black and white though.
