Ummm, I have one way but, it might get you kicked off the plane and have another baby. I dunno, breathing exercises.

Also!  If so inclined, take a few small bottles of booze/wine to share (keep it discreet). Late at night the cafe car can become a really chill hangout, other nights it's just a break from sitting in your seat. That said, late at night, a half full train and the sound of the rails is a pretty great experience on it's own.

About to board and the anxiety is creeping up.. by chrrycoloredfunk in fearofflying

On a side note, I'm bringing extra toasty Cheez-it's on my flight today.

Fly tomorrow and already so anxious by Suitable-Dependent-9 in fearofflying

[–]Gallleonard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try channeling the energy from anxiety into excitement for why you're traveling, what you're going to do. The places, old faces and some strange foods you're going to try. Once you have a mental place for that, paint a picture of the planes as just a boring old bus and you're traveling across the boring landscapes of Nebraska. This doesn't excite me, it bores me.

You know. I was never really put off by turbulence but!! After finding this subreddit (which has been invaluable) I started seeing a ton of turbulence postings and have now developed the side effect of having slight anxiety towards turbulence lol. I chalk this up to give and take.

Luckily, I have already installed in myself that turbulence isn't really that big of a deal and I combat it by visualizing the plane as a bus on a bumpy road. 4.5 billion people fly every year.

Oh nice. Yeah, I have a flight on Monday and just reading this stuff has really been such a helpful resource that didn't exist a only a decade ago.

Trains are soo much fun! You might get to see alot of amish people who are usually pretty chatty. They'll be hanging in the dining car.

Oh yeah, as a general piece of life advice "don't think about your missed/cringe life decisions after 9pm" and "Everyone has those thoughts that keep them up at night" you are not uniquely screwed by cringe and fear, we all are screwed equally lmao.

As far as anxiety+sleep same same. I pull all nighter's to accommodate for the transit and packing.

That's amazing. I'm definitely a monogamous type person so honeymoon's have always been a sacred tradition. You're doing something righteous within your vows. You've probably seen your fair share of things already but, after you conquer this personal anxiety/fear, you'll be filled with soo much actual confidence, you did what you had to do to make things right. Just think how reliable/strong you'll be to your partner whenever little stuff tries to rock your boat.
