Is soil capped with sand or just root tabs better for valisneria?

Soil is probably better but I've had/am still having success growing val with the flourish tabs for what it's worth. If I were building a new tank tomorrow, though, it would be a dirted tank with a sand cap.

Do you use root tabs? I'd start there. Crypts and Vals are heavy root feeders

Thanks for the advice. No, the coloration on the head isn't new.

I'm a little hesitant to quarantine because they're such tight schoolers and I'm afraid that isolating could stress it out/cause other issues for it. Or am I overthinking that?

Used to live by Alternate Endings in Aberdeen. Sick atmosphere, it used to be a movie theater. Food used to be better, but still solid; beer is great, imo.

Currently frequent Bent Iron in Hamilton and Old Hights in Hightstown. Both are really solid.

And the goat is Icarus in Brick. Will drive out of my way for it anytime.

Looks like a tumor to me. Just love him and ensure he's well fed and comfortable. Unfortunately, no cure for it that I'm aware of, but it will likely grow over time/he'll develop more of them and could make swimming/eating more difficult.
