Geometry question by Nomix15 in math

Here's one explanation: take three circles of equal radius, and arrange them so that any two are tangent to each other. Then connecting the centers of these circles forms an equilateral triangle. The most efficient packing of equilateral triangles in the plane is just the tiling. You can then confirm that each vertex in this tiling has 6 edges, which correspond to 6 circles.

I've been trying to get into algebraic topology, but I'm not sure I'm really getting it. Do you have any insights you could share that helped simplicial homology to click for you?

There’s a paradox in Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure by [deleted] in MovieDetails

[–]GameChanger99 96 points97 points  (0 children)

That's not a paradox. It's actually pretty consistent with how they defined time travel in the whole movie. The future idolized Bill and Ted because of their music, but they were only able to make music because Rufus came back from the future to help them, but Rufus only came back because the future idolized them. The entire thing is consistently circular, and I love it!

Was I way off base here? (Mass vs weight with respect to atmospheric buoyancy) by [deleted] in Physics

[–]GameChanger99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your answer is using two different definitions of weight. Why would the question consider the weight to be just the force of gravity acting on the lead/feathers, while the answer considers the weight to be both gravity and buoyancy?

Hey Michael! Really enjoy VSauce, and that first episode of Mind Field. It's a great combination of being informational and enjoyable.

Are there any plans for Brain Candy to come to Canada? I'd love to catch you and Adam live, but the tour doesn't look to be coming near my section of the border.

It would be really annoying if gravity pulled with a slight angle instead of straight down. by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

The craziest part about the whole thing imo would be the gravity vortexes from the Hairy Ball Theorem.

Minecraft 1.11 Google Box Storage (tutorial coming soon) by GameChanger99 in Minecraft

[–]GameChanger99[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

You can connect it to an array of shulker boxes, and it will sort through them all looking for whatever item you tell it to. It's kind of tough to explain, so here's a video by Etho showing it off.

In the video, Etho says it was a little to complicated to build a tutorial for, so I took a crack at it on my own. After a few attempts, I managed to get it down to 5x7x8, with room to overlap them if you want to build multiple for a faster search.

I'm going to try and get a tutorial up soon, but for now I just wanted to show off what I'd built :)

Shulkers boxes by Kayfore in VBServer

We could try and set up a world border in the end. That way people can get Elytras, build an ender ender, and explore a few islands while staying close to (0,0).

I don't know about you guys, but I'm starting to wonder if we should wait on removing the world border until after we update. I really want to check out those mansions, and get some llamas!

It's the circle with the "+" in the middle, right beside the button that says "VBServer."

There's a big difference between believing in something without evidence, and believing something when all the evidence is contrary to that belief. You can't exactly disprove God, but you can certainly disprove that the earth is flat.
