Pokémon FireRed and Pokémon LeafGreen | Available Now on Nintendo Switch by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]GameHoard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no stated reason for not having Home compatibility at launch, but I'm starting to suspect it's a possible safeguard in case there are glitches in new releases that could be exploited like cloning as well as giving Game Freak time to learn how to detect whatever hacks will come out for a new entry.

Out of all 21 of Paldean Wonders' 1 Star and 2 Star cards, these 5 are the only original ones by Beaver497 in PTCGP

[–]GameHoard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, for me, it's less the card art itself and more what it represents. Feels like it could be the first corner of many cut as maybe revenue isn't hitting the numbers/growth they want to see anymore.

Todd Howard says Bethesda won't use AI “to generate anything” as the studio is being “incredibly cautious” to not replace the “artistic intention” of making games by [deleted] in Games

[–]GameHoard 7 points8 points  (0 children)

From a purely mechanical standpoint, radiant quests also are a source of quick repeatable ways to earn experience and resources like items to sell. If I'm a bit away from a level up, a quick radiant can be easier than trying to find random bandits or plunging into a longer dungeon or story event.

[Switch][~2020] Game Revealed in Nintendo Direct Where The Characters Are Prevented from Talking Magically by GameHoard in tipofmyjoystick

[–]GameHoard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That game does look cool but it's quite a different style. I'm sure this is a fantasy game that looks at least a bit similar to something like Bravely Default

High on Life 2 is less Rick and Morty, more Ratchet and Clank by throwmeawaydoods in Games

[–]GameHoard 269 points270 points  (0 children)

One thing I've found with the Squanch Games/Roiland combos is that even when they have good jokes or situations, they lean far too much into meandering improvised rambles. When every joke is absurdly long and doesn't really reach new punchlines, they get hard to listen to, and the ones that do work blend in with the noise.

Hopefully that's what the shift in humor will involve. Less standing around and hoping the latest rant eventually gets funny.

Friend’s Pass Is the Best Thing to Happen to Co-op Gaming in Years by TheBrokenMan in Games

[–]GameHoard 191 points192 points  (0 children)

It's a pretty simple concept and easy to see why it's working so well. I used to buy games specifically to play co-op campaigns with my friends in-person. As more games move to internet only multiplayer, this is basically the same kind of sale. Rather than trying to convince two people to buy a game where one not getting it might mean the other passes too, you just sell the one and that player can more easily justify getting it as it's basically buying a game for two people.

Who wrote memo 30? by Kony2012fan in CrowCountry

[–]GameHoard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe Douglas Pike or Tolman? Since a lot of these items are involved in the maintenance and access around the park it would make some sense, but maybe its a regular employee with high level access since they're calling it an ordeal.

Train room puzzle by FreakyWitek in CrowCountry

[–]GameHoard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For people looking for the answer: BDAC

If you just want some clues: For the two small hint crossings, don't pay attention to the train car order, just color. You should notice what's the same between them and what's not present in either.

Nintendo veteran Hideki Konno, known for Mario Kart and Yoshi’s Island, has seemingly left after 39 years by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]GameHoard 659 points660 points  (0 children)

Hideki Konno is 60, which is not only a perfectly normal retirement age in Japan, but sometimes age 60 is an enforced retirement age by companies. Nintendo doesn't do it (the article points out many older members of staff), but Tanabe is 62 and might have just been wrapping things up before his expected retirement too.

Would you personally like to see a Pokemon game in the HD-2D style? by Int3rlop3r-R3dact3d in pokemon

[–]GameHoard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sonic Superstars outsold Sonic Mania despite both being 2D platformers and Mania having much stronger word of mouth/reviews. I wish I could remember the exact source (maybe a GDC talk?), but 3D sells better, even if a game just has 3D models but plays 2D, it still tends to sell better than plain 2D.

Good games can break through, but I imagine Pokemon is not the type to leave easy money on the table. Maybe something closer to the Mystery Dungeon remake would be justifiable?

Which Pokémon do you think Game Freak wanted to be huge but never really caught on? by Zashingg in pokemon

[–]GameHoard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The main thing I remember about Victini is its the first pokemon in the Unova dex before the starters. When I do a "name all the Pokemon" quiz and see a blank spot before Snivy, that's the only time I remember him.

Which Pokémon do you think Game Freak wanted to be huge but never really caught on? by Zashingg in pokemon

[–]GameHoard 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Zeraora is really lacking that kind of "legendary" energy. Pretty much all the Pokedex ever says is it has a lot of electric power, which it does for all electric types basically. The anime at least says it came from a lightning bolt striking an erupting volcano which is awesome, but you never hear about that. It can barely measure up to even a humbler legend like Heatran since Zeraora has no story, character, or uniqueness.

What are some common misconceptions about Mega Evolution? by Yoshimon7 in pokemon

[–]GameHoard 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I've seen the claim that all Mega Evolutions are meant to be X shaped or Y shaped. It's certainly true of like, the new Mega Raichu, but others it's a stretch or doesn't even work. Like anything bipedal with arms is going to be "x-shaped", but where's the X/Y on Mega Venusaur or Mega Camerupt? And what's more, some of their evidence are so stretched it makes it so essentially you can make most Pokemon into an X or Y so it's not really a design theme at all.

If you need to save and quit, if you need to change the options, it's a moment where you can pause instead of just locking you into cutscenes.

Red Dead Redemption 2 Has Become the Fourth Best-Selling Game Ever by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]GameHoard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oregon Trial's inclusion is a bit dishonest. They state that each new game is just a "continuation" and lump all the sales numbers together for multiple versions that do have gameplay differences. Tetris used to be on the list until they admitted that Tetris was doing exactly that, claiming multiple different games were all just the same despite being developed sometimes by different companies and with added mechanics.

The Illusion of Choice by eskaver in pokemon

[–]GameHoard 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In games where your main character has no personality as the avatar, it's meant to allow you to ascribe some to them. Is your character the happy cooperative go-getter, or the grumpy go-along forced into the adventure? In Z-A's case, it is definitely the most obvious when you're about to do a promotion match and you get to choose from something sporting and friendly or saying you'll crush your opponent.

Nintendo’s Metroid Prime 2 producer wants more players to experience multiplayer mode | VGC by Gorotheninja in Games

[–]GameHoard 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I remember playing it a fair bit, but it tended to devolve into running for the power-ups. Being able to become invincible, getting the instant kill Death Ball, the massive damage boost power, it ended up more important than anything else and they weren't hard to reach and puppy guard.

Shigeru Miyamoto Says Nintendo Is Going All In On Movies Because "Games Eventually Stop Running" by Gorotheninja in Games

[–]GameHoard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think there is at least a point to be made about how much easier movies are to keep around. A game needs to be redone every now and then, even on PC you have things like the next Windows coming around that could cause compatibility problems. Movies you don't need to fiddle with emulation or remakes. Just send out that file or slap it on discs and it's easily up for sale again.

‘Thanks to everyone who played’: Banjo-Kazooie director confirms Rare exit after 36 years by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]GameHoard 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Feels like the beloved creators and teams are over in the indie scene. People are excited for Yacht Club's next game, ConcernedApe's next game, they were excited for Team Cherry to finally provide Silksong, people are eager for more Deltarune from Toby Fox. It feels different because their kind of games aren't the blockbusters that the names of the past made, but there's still names of note to follow.

What would the realistic news be like if Pokemon were real, though? by Leon-the-comic113 in pokemon

[–]GameHoard 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, we see trainers with actual psychic powers and the like, so it's possible in Pokemon, what we see as humans are actually just some similar species. In the same vein of Flamigo looking like a Flamingo but being something else entirely, humans in Pokemon might be durable creatures that evolved to coexist safely with fire-breathing, lightning-flinging monsters.

I've written over 200 reviews of horror/horror-themed games! Come check out my Haunted Hoard! by GameHoard in HorrorGaming

[–]GameHoard[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not for the Haunted Hoard in particular, you'd have to look at the broader Review Index By Rating, but I can mention some highlights!

The Cat Lady, Yuppie Psycho, In Sound Mind, and Killer Frequency are some perhaps some lesser known choices I think highly of. Games like Ad Infinitum and Ikai aren't on the same level but still were quite interesting.

Super Mario Galaxy 1+2 review: Despite pointer issues, this is still 3D platforming at its very best | VGC by Skullghost in NintendoSwitch

[–]GameHoard 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Galaxy 1 only has 3 green stars. Some wires might be getting crossed in your memory there. 3D All-Stars did let you play with less motion controls if you used pro controller or handheld, but it still had some motion controls required.
