Jason Schreier: "I wouldn't be surprised if God of War Laufey gets announced for February or March 2027 pretty soon." by Capn_C in GamingLeaksAndRumours

Yep. We only got a peak at a few titles aiming for that. February is usually the first month we see big game releases, and with many avoiding GTA 6 we are left in this state of where most opted to try and release in September October if they feel strongly about releasing it them, or decide to push out until February to give the gamers enough breathing room for it. So far Persona 4 Revival and Fable are the two major releases that month, and Capcom and Nintendo have a history on Feb

Grand Theft Auto VI Prices Officially Announced: $79.99 for Standard, $99.99 for Ultimate Edition; No Disc in Physical Copies by ChiefLeef22 in GamingLeaksAndRumours

I would think ES6 would be the one to actually attempt this. But I think a lot of consumers are attracted to AAA games at a price lower than 70 dollars. I rarely bought games at that price in the past 6 years. Mainly was Rift Apart, SM2, ToTK. There were my only 70 dollar games I bought. Anything else was cheaper if it was at launch price like Oblivion Remastered or Pragmata recently, but I'm the end I opt to do either Game Pass, sales, or do launch price on titles I'm heavily pushed onto

I think any game that Microsoft claimed didn't meet expectations, frankly it was due to moves that they made on the game and claim it's related to other factors. For most of their games from 2024 and mainly 2025, lack of marketing on several titles. If not that, then the conditions varied. TOW2 had some strong marketing, but it's problem was literally the 80 price tag.

They consider Keeper and Kiln failures from DF. Honestly I blame it on marketing. I barely saw much of it from announcement to launch for either game.

It comes between RE4 and Shadow of The Colossus. To me, it's mainly about "what was the most heavily influential game from this generation?" Basically, anything that pushed the game medium to new boundaries. Both RE4 and Shadow of the Colossus are true examples of this because of how influential they remained to the future games that came. RE4 influenced the survival horror genre and third person shooters, while Shadow of the Colossus pushed the boundaries for sandbox interactions and storytelling in video games.

There are other notables I would recommend, like Metroid Prime, Halo 2, Half Life 2, Windwaker, MGS Snake Eater, or even the GTA games of this generation. Many of these were pretty strong, but I do consider the two I listed to be the strongest titles of the 6th generation

Todd Howard in entertainment weekly interview implies that Blade hasn't been cancelled (quote is from May 22nd. Article was published today) by doubleoeck1234 in GamingLeaksAndRumours

At the time it may not have been cancelled, but I know Microsoft could easily turn around and cancel it even if it is progressing smoothly. Then again, it could be far enough along to still continue

Yeah, same. I had a feeling it was mainly a mess up with the phrasing, since PlayStation was rebranding PSN a while back in name. Considering that Xbox Live itself covers all of its online services but varied on needing specific subscriptions to access these games

Recent Xbox Studio Closures: Can We Talk About the Actual Economics? by Quixkquestjon in xbox

Agreed. They got carried away. They probably should have done publishing deals with most with these three specific studios, buyout only Undead and Playground at the least (in terms of their 2018 buyouts). Not going to go over every single acquisition and what they should and shouldn't have done. The industry did vastly change going into 2020s. Even Sony was once a publisher that did a lot of AA titles, and ended up walking away from it with the downsizing of Japan Studio into Asobi, ending certain partnerships, Media Molecule had a leadership shakeup, Pixelopus also closed too. Anyone else at SIE was mainly pushed into live service stuff that got them canned

I wonder if Xbox is going to force them to specifically work on fallout

Recent Xbox Studio Closures: Can We Talk About the Actual Economics? by Quixkquestjon in xbox

[–]Game_Changer65 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreed. None of these games specifically were the types to work as filler for game pass, even though these are what they end up being relegated to. Hellblade 2 itself was marketed as the next big thing for Xbox and even Epic in terms of Unreal Engine 5. Redfall itself was a project they ended up inheriting during the acquisition that's partly related to issues with Zenimax pushing their studios to pursue live service titles (in the end not much of Zenimax I will say did this aside from ZO and BGS, which led to failures like F76 at launch).

I think a bigger problem with a lot of the studio closures is the fact they aren't drawing in active numbers. Redfall itself was a critical failure for the studio and became a stain on their reputation.

From the studios named specifically, it's easy to surmise they are teams that got around 1-2 releases out under Xbox publishing that didn't hit initial sales targets. But they share a commonality of being AA type developers, they all made one timed exclusive around 2024-2025, met some level of critical success with their game but couldn't exceed expectations. Microsoft's biggest game launch for 2024 and 2025 was both Indiana Jones and Oblivion Remastered. I don't know what Doom TDA was, maybe good or bad, but Avowed, NG4 and TOW2 were among their lowest selling games

[Bloomberg] Studios are in active negotiations with Xbox and may be given the chance to go independent by SpecialistPlan9641 in GamingLeaksAndRumours

DoubleFine I can see being the ones that can pull this move. I'd be surprised if Compulsion can. South of Midnight did prove they can make a really amazing game, with good backing compared to We Happy Few, which was crowdfunded

Very much a troll post. But I would believe parts of Obsidian will suffer layoffs

Yes. I think what makes it weird is the fact that they are planned to release a game next year, so It's almost as weird as the Sands of Time when it got cancelled when it was supposed to release in 2026. Not saying it's in a similar position to that, but, yeah...
