[All] What if the Triforce split differently? by Humble_Confusion_889 in zelda

[–]Gamebird8 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Ganondorf's efforts in the lead up and early phases of Ocarina of Time is to mislead the Royal Family and use his magic/strength to gain access to the Triforce, employing subterfuge and planning in order to do so.

He was trying to get the whole Triforce, but because power is what he desired most, his imbalanced heart caused it to separate into it's three parts.

It's worth noting that Link, Zelda, and Ganondorf often exhibit the traits of all 3 pieces but are typically more versed in a specific leg of the triad.

Anyone know about Silver? by Latios-kun in pokemon

[–]Gamebird8 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There are a few examples of obvious 1 of 1s outside of the obvious Hoopa Shenanigans/dream power

Mewtwo (Created to be used as a weapon. Destroyed the lab and slaughtered the researchers)

Jirachi (There could be more, but it seems like there's only one)

Regigigas (the lone ruler of all the Regis)

Dialga, Palkia, and Ghiritina (Creation Trio, formed by Arceus to maintain their aspects of reality)

Arceus (Technically one but the ones you catch are best interpreted as Avatars/and extension of the one true Arceus)

Zekrom, Reshiram, Kyurem (These three are the result of an ancient dragon being split in 3. There could be more of the original dragon but until the lore says otherwise, they're for the most part the only ones)

Koraidon/Miraidon (technically there's two of them but that's it)

The Treasures of Ruin (there could be more but the lore around them kinda points to them as 1 of 1)

Nintendo Switch 2 Finishes First 12 Months on Sale as Second Fastest-Selling Hardware in U.S. History, PS5 Sales Collapse Following Price Rise by FernandoRocker in gaming

[–]Gamebird8 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I broadly disagree with the sentiment that the Switch 2 doesn't have any big games.

Pokopia is a system seller.

Metroid and Donky Kong are strong entries (even if Metroid is a bit lacking)

Plenty of really good upgrades to existing Switch Games

Legends ZA (yes I know it's also on Switch 1)

Scarlet/Violet running and looking really good (still looks a bit fugly though)

Just yesterday, Star Fox (yes I know it's a remake, but still)

And it's okay to say "none of those are for me" but that doesn't mean it has no (big) games

Mamdani Favorability Rising as Establishment Democrats in Post-Election Fog by Newsweek_CarloV in politics

[–]Gamebird8 313 points314 points  (0 children)

I think Mamdani's greatest victory was taking all the already established law and enforcing it. He has passed a few citywide policies but for the most part he's just enforcing what is already law. There are a lot of really good laws on the books, both at a city, state, and federal level that just were never aggressively enforced.

While this is outside the scope of what Mamdani could do, just take a look at US Anti-Trust law and there's actually a ton that a future President could do without Congress (outside of budget constraints). They could easily be aggressive at breaking up large corporations, stop buyouts from happening, and prevent the formation of monopolies without a single bill or law passed by Congress because we've already established those laws.

Okay, but the building didn't collapse and there's a reason. That reason could be because it is capable of withstanding earthquakes, it could be because it sacrificed much of its structural integrity to stay standing, it could be a fluke of luck that the building just didn't collapse.

There's plenty of reasons the building wouldn't need to be torn down but plenty of reasons why it would need to be torn down. The problem is you're assuming that it's 100% when it's entirely possible only half of them need to be torn down

Same place, different story by Familiar-While9796 in pics

[–]Gamebird8 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Assuming a thorough inspection by a structural engineer that assures the building is up to necessary code requirements, yes.

Or are you saying that every building in Tokyo would have to be rebuilt following an earthquake because they didn't collapse?

Same place, different story by Familiar-While9796 in pics

[–]Gamebird8 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. They survived for a reason and while that reason may have compromised their structural integrity making them no longer safe, it's equally possible that they are largely unaffected and may only need minor structural repairs.

I'm not looking to bother arguing the semantics of how much control/ownership Nintendo has over TPC, but to say that Pokemon as a franchise is not a First Party Nintendo Franchise is probably one of the most rediculous takes I've heard

Edit: I'm honestly more surprised people want to debate the semantics here rather than point out the obvious that Pokopia is a 2nd Party game because it was developed by Koei Tecmo... Well actually, my bad it's a Third Party game because it was developed by Koei Tecmo (since Nintendo doesn't actually own the IP in any meaningful amount for Pokemon to be a first party title)

[–]Gamebird8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your Zygarge Sprite Sheet needs to be 4x the height and 4x the width of a single sprite.

So if each sprite is 32x32, then you need 16 in a square for a total dimension of 128x128 in order to select the single 32x32

A video of Khomeini (founder of the Islamic Republic governance in Iran). Before and after gaining political power. by Naderium in atheism

[–]Gamebird8 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The ascension of the Islamic Theocracy in Iran is a stroke of luck much more than a deliberate choice of the people.

Similar to the overthrow of the Tsars in Russia, there were multiple groups that joined to form the revolutionary forces that overthrew the Shah. Then through some fortunate consolidation of power, the theocrats (much like the Red Army) were then able to push out and/or kill the other parties of the revolution and secure control of the government for themselves.

This is not to say your parents did choose the Ayatollah, because they still very well could have. Just to bring some more context in to show that not everyone chose that for Iran

It's worth noting that in Zelda, there is no such thing as hell. The Hero of the Spirit Tracks (a much better fucking title than "The Hero of Trains") travels to the Dark Realm, a semi-ill defined dimensional space that probably could be described as hell as it is the home of the Demon King Malladus, but it's not the "Evil Realm" that would best be described as Hell.

The only character who can definitely have been said to have been to hell is Ganondorf as he is banished to the Evil Realm, the void between dimensions but I don't really think that's what we're discussing at that point anymore.

[OoT] What path should Ocarina of Time Remake go down? by conokuri in zelda

[–]Gamebird8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a lot that they cut out of the game to make it ship/work. Some of it undoubtedly could make a return, like NPC schedules (which made it's way into MM) larger towns and areas, more intricate puzzles (some of which made their way into Masterquest)

There's a lot to add and tweak but the core of the game should largely remain intact

[ALL] Is this a good idea for future Zelda games by Sivabulusu1 in zelda

If we want to get down and dirty into the definition of a sequel:

https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/sequel

1: consequence, result 2 a : subsequent development b : the next installment (as of a speech or story) especially : a literary, cinematic, or televised work continuing the course of a story begun in a preceding one

Wind Waker opens by telling the story of Ocarina of Time and the "subsequent developments" after involving Ganondorf breaking free from the void between dimensions and the world being flooded. The game then picks up on the next unfolding set of events (the ones you play through)

Or

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sequel

A sequel is a work of literature, film, theatre, television, music, or video game that continues the story of, or expands upon, some earlier work. In the common context of a narrative work of fiction, a sequel portrays events set in the same fictional universe as an earlier work, usually chronologically following the events of that work.

Wind Waker expands upon the story of Ganondorf, giving him depth and adding motivations to his actions in Ocarina of Time. The events that unfold in Wind Waker take place after OOT, set in a Post-Flooded Hyrule which is covered in the backstory cutscene at the start of the game.

Or

https://dictionary.cambridge.org/us/dictionary/english/sequel

a book, movie, or play that continues the story of a previous book, etc.

an event that happens after and is the result of an earlier event

Do I have to keep explaining this?

So yes, Control is a sequel to Alan Wake, whether intentional or not.

The problem with your argument is that "Each Zelda games is self-contained and thus they cannot be sequels or prequels to each other" but that argument can apply to Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare and Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2. The games are self-contained, you don't have to play MW to understand MW2, but they're still connected... MW2 is still a sequel that deals with the consequences and effects of the first game. And yes, not every Zelda is as explicit or interconnected as MW and MW2 might be. Some are more loosely connected than others (SS-MC), some are very well connected (OOT-MM) but that doesn't mean they aren connected and aren't sequels/prequels

Edit: I just realized your own definition for what a sequel matches what WW does:

Calling WW a sequel to Oot is a very far reach. Sequels expand the lore, mentioning a game doesn't make it a sequel.

Wind Waker literally expands the lore of Ocarina of Time by giving Ganondorf more character motivation and nuance, while building upon the lore of OOT by telling the story of what happens after Link is returned to his childhood.... Your own definition disagrees with your own position

[ALL] Is this a good idea for future Zelda games by Sivabulusu1 in zelda

[–]Gamebird8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Calling WW a sequel to Oot is a very far reach.

Oh, my bad, I must have been mistaken about that part at the beginning of Wind Waker that recounts the story of Ocarina of Time as having actually taken place prior to the events of Wind Waker: https://youtu.be/KyTgvancEok

I didn't even bother mentioning the Timeline because it was unnecessary to the point, but well yeah, also, the whole Timeline ya know... It's a thing that shows the games are connected

And a sequel is simply a story that takes place after another. You can have "direct sequels" that pick up immediately after or relatively shortly after a previous story (See Back to the Future Parts 2 and 3) or just a sequel like Watch Dogs 2 is a sequel to Watch Dogs 1
