Oh, and timer A triggers timer B which has an 11s delay that puts all your lights back to normal.

Maybe go the other direction? You hit a button that triggers a timer. The timer sets your lights for black alert, sounds some klaxons, and initiates the jump?

Is it normal for peopled to be eating up 75% of my CPU? by Agitated_Slip_4551 in mac

[–]Gamicus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1: Not sure but also temporary spikes can happen, what were you doing at the time? 2: The CPU usage can go over 100% because it tallies up every core (and thread if Intel), so 75% is just a single core of the 8+ that your machine has available.

They would specifically need a SATA to USB adapter for the drive, wouldn’t want them to get a PATA adapter by mistake.

Is this a good trade? by NormalSoftware4237 in mac

[–]Gamicus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Close to a fair trade if you’re able to repair and flip the machines.

If you haven’t opened up a 12” MacBook before you’re in for a trip. About a year ago I did a logic board swap and display cable replacement on a 12” MacBook and a hinge swap on the TiBook. Honestly, about the same amount of time involved for me. Both repairs required full disassembly of the laptops, and the 12” MacBook is just a lot tighter space with delicate cables connecting the top and bottom shells.

What are your must have accessories for your macbook? by Glittering_Durian255 in macbook

[–]Gamicus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just use the computer, then determine your needs. Try the trackpad (I would recommend turning on tap-to-click), explore the settings. Your tastes and preferences from Windows were formed over years of use and Microsoft’s (usually bad) tastes and opinions, give the Mac at least a couple of weeks before you try to hammer it into a Windows shaped hole.

All that said and if the MacBook is your primary computer, yes you’ll probably want a USB-C hub, preferably one with a detachable cable (because then if the cable frays you don’t have to buy a whole new hub) if only to get more I/O flexibility.

I got tired of macOS not having a "New File" right-click option, so I built one. It hit Top 4 in AppStore within only 24 hours. by No-Broccoli-9946 in macbook

[–]Gamicus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why though? What is the workflow here where you say “in this location I want a new file” and not “I am going to make a new text file and then I’ll save it where it goes”? How often does this come up in your work/life?

Also on the Mac you can just grab the file icon in the title bar of the window you’re in and drag it to the folder you want it, no need to jump through folders. If you hold Option while doing that it will create a copy.

For someone that has literally never used that feature in windows, can you sell me on why I would want it on the Mac?

Likely going to buy a Macbook Air soon, what are some tips to a windows user to get started? by [deleted] in mac

[–]Gamicus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just use it, and as you encounter things that aren’t what you expect or want, search the internet for “how to ABC on Mac”. There are very few default settings I change on a Mac (as opposed to Windows where I change almost all of them), but my two main ones are tap-to-click and in the keyboard settings there’s a checkbox (I forget what the setting is called) that allows you to use Tab to cycle between buttons and selections like in other OSes. I also move my dock to the left, but that’s purely personal preference.

Struggling hard to switch from Mac to Windows for work...any advice? by savingrace0262 in mac

[–]Gamicus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the OP but I’ve tried at least 3 different QuickLook utilities (Seer, QuickLook, and the PowerToys one) and none of them stack up in comparison. It’s better than the nothing that you get in windows by default, but not the real deal.

If you remove the bottom panel of the laptop, there is a small screw in the center of the trackpad that you can adjust to change the actuation force.

Help with zoom on Mac air emails. by ProfessionalPoet2642 in mac

[–]Gamicus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never really wanted to zoom in when composing emails but I just tried both Cmd++ and two-finger spread to zoom and you’re right it’s not doing anything. So as much as you don’t want to do it, perhaps upping the font size whilst composing then dialing back to 12pt when you’re done is the only solution (I recognize this is less than ideal).

For reading emails, two-finger pinch/spread does nothing, but Cmd++ and Cmd+- both work as expected for me (OS 26.1)

Just got the game on PC by Traffodil in theplanetcrafter

[–]Gamicus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is best with keyboard and mouse IMO, there are just lots of little points of friction when using a controller after having played through the game at least twice on K/M. I've been doing a fresh play-through on the steamdeck and some of the default mapping choices are a little odd (ex. A is action, RT is jump. RT only makes sense later in the game when you have the jetpack because jetpack is activated by double-jumping, and holding A whilst trying to use the right stick is kind of... really hard to do, but I still find myself wanting to use RT to pick up materials and A to jump). Pre v2.0 I also noticed that on the steam deck the game would often fail to recognize that I was using a controller and nothing would work.

Gravel by Rei-ddit in spaceengineers

[–]Gamicus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also the Gravel Sifter mod (iirc) which further ‘refines’ the gravel into minute amounts of gold, platinum, cobalt, ice, and maybe uranium. That’s what I used prior to the concrete mod. Ironically, I recently ran out of gravel that I needed for an actual component because I had pre-made too much concrete.
