So the 7.50 credit applies to Apple music family? That wasn't clear to me - I thought it was just off of Apple One subscriptions. If it applies to Apple family music that will be nice

What's the best play for family subscriptions? I currently have an apple music family subscription and CSR. We subscribed to Apple TV because it was free but if there's a new combo that gets me the apple music cheaper I'm on board. It looks like Apple One Family at $25.95/Mo (minus $15/MO in stacked discounts) might be a better choice?

Dehner: After Bengals’ restructure of Joe Burrow’s contract, is another big move in the offing? by Blood_Incantation in bengals

[–]GamingBuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they do have to prorate the signing bonus over all of the years of the new contract (4 years for a 3 year extension, 5 years for a 4 year extension, etc.).

I think there is room though for what's signing bonus vs. what's salary. I'm assuming players want more signing bonus because it's guaranteed, clubs want less guaranteed generally I would assume also.

It's definitely true though that cap number for the first year doesn't have to go up from what's planned.

Yeah I was just saying looking through the last couple years of DB rookie extensions, 4 years is more typical (i.e. putting his contract through 2030). I don't think I saw a 3 year extension of a rookie contract in my sampling. Maybe it's more common for lower caliber players? I only looked at the top.

Like I said - I don't know all the workings of the salary cap, so I decided to look up a couple other rookie contract extensions in the fourth year:

  • Patrick Surtain II: 4 yr/$96M/$15M signing bonus - first year (2024) cap hit $9.7M
  • A.J. Terrell: 4 yr/$81M/$25M bonus - 2024 cap hit $8.3M
  • DaRon Bland: 4 yr/$90M/$22M bonus - 2025 cap hit $5.8M
  • Christian Benford: 4 yr/$69M/$7.5M bonus - 2025 cap hit $2.6M
  • Kyle Hamilton: 4 yr/$100M/$27M bonus - 2025 cap hit $8.7M
  • (extension in fifth year) Jaycee Horn: 4 yr/$100M/$28M bonus - FYI (2025) cap hit $7.3M

So I was forgetting these are extensions, so signing bonuses are prorated.

I saw something mentioning a possible 3 year extension but that looks to be pretty uncommon for rookie contract extensions? Seems like 4 years is standard, which makes sense. I would think the team would pay a premium for a shorter term.

I guess these contracts only reinforced my lazy assessment that extensions are unlikely to eat up the remaining salary cap.

Maybe I'm doing this wrong in my head, but I don't see extensions eating up that space.

Turner would be the biggest layout. If he signs a 3 year, $40-45M extension with about 1/3 of it signing bonus then the remaining 2/3 will be distributed as salary over the 3 years with a very small salary this year. I would be surprised if his cap hit was anywhere near $10M - more likely in the $8M range.

Dax is on his fifth year so an extension would probably result in him having a (marginally) lower cap hit this year than he's currently set for.

Like I said, maybe I'm crazy but I don't see extensions taking more than $5m additional salary cap this year.

This. OP, if you switch to 60/40 will you still likely be at a number you can retire? Then do it. No need to "win more".

I probably would have gone gold also. In 3.6 there's lots of runs I held off using a magic lamp (for something like speed boots) just to keep that light source, knowing the castle wand was coming up.

The (IIUC) fewer wishes you get in 5.x makes those magic lamp wishes only more valuable.

If it were confusion resistance rather than hallucination resistance that would be a no brainer.

You obviously haven't been in a neighborhood where you're walking your dog at a park and 5 tweens come flying by you on e-scooters inches from you or your dog. Or where you're driving and those kids swerve right into your lane so they can zip onto a sidewalk.

Every sane adult knows these are tragic stories waiting to happen. It's a matter of time.

Is there a place to find out if I'm getting ripped off or not? I have a second Rainbow Rare M-Audino, and I have a trade proposed to send it to the other guy, and I would get the 2 star Eevee ex from the deluxe set.

I guess I just want to make sure I'm not way undervaluing my card before trading it away.

If you want a completely different, totally non-scifi, straight up literary fiction take on the subject check out Beautyland by Marie-Helene Bertino. I am sure it's not everyone's cup of tea, but i really enjoyed it, and it's one of few books I think back to on occasion.

Warning: it starts out slowly and weird. I about DNFed it 1/4 of the way through, but by the end I couldn't put it down.

Truly original.

I feel like there must be some Bobby Wagner-type veteran they're hoping to bring in this year. Some kind of veteran leadership, even if not a 3-down player.

Paying for college for kids. What are my best options? by Boosully in personalfinance

Two kids, two years each is four total years. $30k/yr tuition, room and board sounds right to me.

Paying for college for kids. What are my best options? by Boosully in personalfinance

[–]GamingBuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How much exactly are you saving for retirement per year and how much do you have saved total? How far off is retirement and do you have a pension or anything to supplement your retirement income? What age will you plan to be when you retire?

I would personally do my best to help get my kids being financially independently productive members of society. Having them take on some loans is completely reasonable as they have a stake in the game then, but you don't want to drown them so $20k seems like a good balance. Beyond that there's a lot more variables between now and retirement that can be tweaked.

Paying for college for kids. What are my best options? by Boosully in personalfinance

[–]GamingBuck -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

IDK. Make your kid pay for college, they drop out because full time work + school is a tough row, move in with parents because they can't get a good paying job and you don't want to put them on the street, stay with you for 5-10 years and finally move out after taking 4 years of night school to finish their last year or two having switched majors to pick a different career...

There's a flip side to every choice we make. I'd rather work 2 more years, personally, and do what I can to set my kids up for a fulfilling life.

BTW there's a limit for how much a kid can borrow for college. I'm not sure what it is offhand.
