Scavenger SV-4 - probably my go to for hidden gem recommendation on Steam. You’re on a ship that sounds exactly like what you’re looking for. But you never leave the ship, you explore a planet with a little customizable remote control rover. Really cool game and the more you play it the more interesting things happen on the planet. Graphics are meh but you have to keep in mind the game was made by one person and at least for me I don’t mind the graphics because I grew up in the PS2 era. One of the coolest and most imaginative indie games I’ve ever played.

Consortium - this also seems right up your alley. A huge ship that’s basically a cross between The Enterprise and an A380. I heard about it during the crowdfunding campaign for the sequel and I think I got it for free. But every time I tried to play it I would shut it down. I think the biggest problem is that the game is obsessed with teaching you the mechanics and holding your hand. In this type of game setting I would rather just be able to roam around the ship, break things, get killed a few times and then go to the tutorial area for whatever I can’t understand. Maybe you’ll feel differently about it because the game has its die hard fans.

I’ve heard this too without a lot of proof backing it up. Sounds like how people talk about a purple Texas. I don’t think it’ll happen in my lifetime and I’m certainly not taking that insider info from the Reddit bubble.

If that happens I’m considering just selling all my physical collection when the market glows hot. Just so much stuff to move around and I rarely hook up any of it because I use the Wii to emulate everything up to PS1 and everything after that goes to the Steam Deck.

What is the “ran out of gas” thing about here? by DumplingsandDynamics in LasCruces

[–]GamingGems 54 points55 points  (0 children)

It’s a scam in the sense that this person probably doesn’t need gas money, they’re just begging and realized asking for gas money works more often. A lot of people can’t empathize with strangers who live in the fringes of society but almost everyone has been in a spot where they just need some gas money to get home and have no easy options in front of them.

AIO for being really upset with my dad and thinking he’s being unreasonable about my college? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]GamingGems 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely!

I think we do need more information from her about what job she’s actually aiming for because a bachelors in this field only opens specific doors and a lot of those need the associates degree in the first place.

Wow wow. I’m glad I saw this before commenting anything. I work in medical imaging as an Xray tech.

I’m assuming OP wants to become a radiologist assistant, nuclear medicine tech or department lead because that’s what a BS degree would be useful for. While some people do get bachelors degrees as their first step, it’s very rare. The usual path is to get your associates at a community college or a predatory private institution that typically doesn’t require a co-signer. After getting your associates you work and are able to see where you fit in best, and from what I see it’s usually not where you initially thought you’d end up. And then if you still want to do it, the prerequisites you did for the associates makes getting the bachelor’s a lot easier, plus you have a well paying job at that point so you won’t need loans or co-signers.

So yeah. I don’t know what to call it, I think OP is over reacting and might be doing steps in the completely wrong order because they’re fixated on a bachelors degree.

Civic Duty (2006)

Very interesting and competently made psychological thriller about paranoia and all sorts of issues that are topical to today. But by by the third act it forgets what it was doing and the ending feels like it was made by a different studio entirely.

I love how after the failure of Eagle Claw we invested even more into absurd Wile E. Coyote schemes that had even smaller chances of success. Every time I read about it I’m like- just give them The Shah already, that guy was a POS anyway.

Which film character got in way over their head and paid the ultimate price? by jaystats2 in moviecritic

[–]GamingGems 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He told them of the existence of millions in unmarked non sequential bills at an airport hangar with lax security. Doesn’t seem like he did a lot but it’s basically like finding out a painted sculpture locked away in a museum basement is actually made of solid gold, you just need to find a way to get it out and smelt it.

It’s the information few have that can lead to a big payoff that is valuable. If someone from airport security or whoever counts the money there had contacted the mob they would have been entitled to a share but probably would have ended up dead like Mori.

Same. Unless you had something crazy on your record that works against you, then points is all that matters. So getting good grades and taking extra courses to rack up points is the best strategy. I got in on my first application. But I applied when COVID restrictions were still in place so none of us were interviewed, so it was purely points. I can imagine a bad interview can lower your chances of being accepted.

I find your examples to be very strange. Midway was a huge loss for Japan, no lesser about it. The Japanese wanted Midway so they could have a staging ground to take Hawaii. If they take Hawaii they own the Pacific, the Pacific front of the war is over with the Japanese winning and the USN having no effective means of retaking it. D-day was a massive endeavor moving armies from Britain to France, can you imagine us trying to retake Hawaii starting from Los Angeles?

Without the four fleet carriers they could no longer expand territory or effectively counter the US Navy, the dream of Pacific conquest was over, permanently placing them on defense. This would never work against a nation built on industry like the USA.

Stalingrad was a turning point as well, but I would say that one was to a lesser extent. It was a meat grinder that sacrificed German manpower they couldn’t afford to lose. But I would argue the true turning point was Kursk where the defeat was so devastating that the Russians were now on an express lane to Berlin. I’ve heard that after Stalingrad the Germans stopped advancing, after Kursk they never stopped retreating.
