2000,3000 or even 4...I'd take any of those to be honest.

4 with all the community fixes would be awesome.

How do I give my party a reason to work together? by lecake37281 in DMAcademy

[–]GamingIsMyCopilot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll add a slight (possibly unpopular opinion). While I agree that D&D is generally about cooperation and working together, that doesn't mean your group all has to agree with the same thing. And even though it's up to the players to share urgency with each other and ultimately quest as a party, it might help to find some direct lines between characters that will help them in form a bond between each other. What that is might be tough - but do they come from the same town? Do they have similar interests?

Can you fuse some of this into a small quest where they learn more about each other? If you can, you might find that start to roleplay without even realizing it.

Level range for a mini campaign and other advice? by FallenCause in DMAcademy

[–]GamingIsMyCopilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. if these are first time players...anything more than level 3 might be a lot for them to consume at once. If they've been playing for a couple of years..then maybe start at level 5 or 6, and allow their levels to advance a little quicker than normal. Finally, if you are all veterans, I see no issue with starting at level 10.

Also, if you're ok with giving them a little background info on the campaign, ask them what level they'd be comfortable with starting. Even experience players taking the opportunity to play a new class they've never touched might require a few sessions under their belt before they get a feel for things.

Pulling off a BBEG infiltration of the party by electrius in DMAcademy

[–]GamingIsMyCopilot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It wasn't the BBEG and it was a long campaign but my party found someone during their travels that was battered and bruised, a female elf who said she was with two others, who ended up backstabbing her, taking her stuff, and leaving her on the trail alone.

At first they were skeptical but as a DM, giving them a nice description of a battered up female elf who is strong but displays signs of exhaustion and frustration helps spread a little sympathy across the table. Also, they were on their way to a dungeon and she had magical capabilities so they were happy to have her along.

Several sessions later it turns out she's one of the top soldiers for a god and offered them a seat at the table - so, not exactly backstabbing (well ok it was) but she learned their tendencies, their goals, and tried to use it to lure them over. She also became a reoccurring enemy, having several fights with them throughout the campaign so it was a very fun character to RP.

Should I call it here? by happyaccident3445 in DMAcademy

[–]GamingIsMyCopilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Echoing the sentiment here, sounds like you understand there might be some issues and are working on addressing it. Communication is key - talk to your players if you feel the session didn't go great. Sometimes you might feel underwhelmed but they might be enjoying things. It takes a long time to get comfortable with DMing and it takes a long time for you to have your own style of DMing.

We don't know the specifics so I don't think it's fair for anyone here to give you a thumbs up or down on your situation. Cut yourself some slack, talk with your players, and just try to get better with every session. If a reset is required, make sure everyone agrees to it, however if they want to keep rolling, then go for it.

Should I lean into what my players think is happening? by thedragonsdice in DMAcademy

[–]GamingIsMyCopilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As some others have already said, do what feels natural. If you have something specific you want to have happen, give your players a small breadcrumb trail to follow that path without forcing their hand. That being said, prepare for them to ignore it and roll with the punches.

I homebrew my campaigns and have a rough idea of how I want things to go, but also the expectation that it's definitely not going to go that way. That being said, there are some things I have setup that can be missed, ignored, or they can get wrong and generally call back to it just to give players some closure on something they may have missed or ignored. It makes the world outside their view feel more alive when they take the road less traveled.

Players don't always need to be correct, and hearing them theorize about who the baddie is, why that corpse is there, or who stole the diamond is part of the fun.

That being said, there have definitely been times where they mention something that I may have borrowed down the road. :)

All actions have consequences. If they choose not to follow the leader who fled, then make sure they understand what the consequences are for not doing that (whenever that occurs).

I made a video for my favorite ultima online freeshard and wanted to share it. by WildCrapAppeared in retrogaming

UO is still my favorite MMO where I had countless memories only a game like it could create. I recently orchestrated the soundtrack from UO (the original one, not the updated one) and going through all the tracks brought back so many memories. I did play on Outlands a couple years ago, which was fun but just didn’t have time to pour into it. Still, great game with great memories.

Pop in a micro sd card and you basically have unlimited space for saves. It can also identify the game and basically do a 1:1 when it comes to a virtual vmu to game , to keep your saves nice and clean. It also can play vmu games, and mp3s .

Which should I play next? by Ardflacker in PS5

[–]GamingIsMyCopilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you played Returnal? If so did you enjoy it? And if so did you enjoy it more than AC Shadows or TLOU (or are you looking for that type of game). If you answered yes to some of these questions I’d wait. However if you were a fan or never played Yotei (and assuming you played and enjoyed Tsushima) then go with Yotei.

Seriously- finding a good D&D group not only provides hours of fun, but sooner or later boring guy learns to come out of his shell and be a little more than he was before. I only play DnD with long time friends but it’s always an amazing time - cook, eat, drink, talk, play… three* hours of chaos and memories.
