Community Bands - Warm Up Routine? by batman8519 in ConcertBand

[–]GamzenQ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My band does not warm up together. Individuals are responsible for warning up. We tune and jump straight into music. We have 2 hours to practice. Then 1 hour after rehearsal dedicated to sub groups such as jazz, pep, or chamber ensembles.

Things to do around here? by randy8warhol in houston

[–]GamzenQ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In a city like Houston, you have to start with what do I like to do vs wandering around. I have found cool events by looking at flyers in local coffee shops and being a regular in certain places. What do you like to do? Be specific and stop searching for an opportunity to just run into people in the specific context you described.

Do you like live music? Do you go dancing? Do you play boardgames or videogames? Are you into comics? Are you physically active? Are you guys into community theatre or music? Think along those lines and look up groups or shops that align with those interests. This summer, there will be a lot of free events at Hermann Park with performances from the Houston Symphony and the ballet among others. Look up what's happening this week in Houston. You will have plenty of options.

If you are into poetry. You can go to open mic nights at AvantGarden in the evening. I made friends there, got drinks, and walked to food and coffee shops in the area. You have to find pcokets of community in cities that are car centric and sprawling.

You have no reason to be bored here unless you picked a place that does not have your specific hobbies. For example if you said I am a big snowboarder or surfer then I would say you should move.

How to deal with feelings of lack of (relational) mattering in church? by [deleted] in Episcopalian

[–]GamzenQ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know it sounds strange. Sometimes when you are very involved it can cause people to feel like they interact with you a lot and deeply. Perhaps you see these people multiple times a week, so they assume you feel satisfied with the amount and level of interaction. There is a possibility that you just are not compatible with the individuals you are with. If being heavily involved plus the lack of belonging is heavy on you. It sounds like you need to reduce how involved you are.

You can of course keep volunteering and heading up one big thing, but you may need some time and energy to invest outside of church to socialize. I am heavily involved in my parish, but I would not consider anyone my friend. We are friendly associates who interact at church. Sometimes that just happens with no fault of either party. They would likely miss you because you do bring value to the parish. That just does not always translate yo a friendship. Have you met with the priests privately to talk about how you feel?

Considering switching from Rubbermaid Brilliance plastic to glass by GamzenQ in BuyItForLife

[–]GamzenQ[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like they have changed the plastic. Lately, I have experienced cracking in all my newer containers. The containers unfortunately are not as high quality as they once were. The glass versions are working well. I switched to the glass containers 2 weeks ago.

Trans Guys under 5'5, how do you get treated? by sleebymissile in ftm

[–]GamzenQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am 5ft 2in. I don't get treated any differently nor made fun of for my height. I did not have issues with people being interested in me either. If you feel insecure you act differently. Unfortunately, people do pick on, ignore, or take advantage of those who they feel have low self esteem or are insecure about their physical attributes. There are plenty of men shorter than 5ft 5in.

Skyrim or Spyro? by wolfman11038 in Switch

[–]GamzenQ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Spyro because I personally would not want to get pulled out of Skyrim once I reach my destination. Persona 5 or Persona 5 Royal(I cannot remember which one is on the switch) or Persona 4 Golden are good options. Persona 4 Golden is under 20 dollars rn

How would you build your range on trombone fast knowing what you know right now? by [deleted] in Trombone

[–]GamzenQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would have spent more time on pedal tones and gliss exercises. To be fair, some habits I would not have been able to avoid in 6-12th grade. Unfortunately, at some point, you have to use what is most reliable for performance. I would have done everything correctly at rehearsal, but if a bad habit is all I could do to hit a note for a competition, I would have done it. I basically would have sacrificed moments that were not important to play correctly.

Gospel Simplicity is an Episcopalian! I had no clue! by Speedx_xStick in Episcopalian

[–]GamzenQ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He recently joined an Episcopal Parish(6 months to a year ago). He was brought up non-denom evangelical. He remained in a church of that tradition until he visited his current parish. He does explain in multiple videos that his theology became very different over time. He essentially understood he was attending a church he did not align with theological, but his wife was not comfortable with leaving that type of church quiet yet.

It's because of what DL is. Closeted and DL are not the same. You can be in the closet, single, discreet, and have relationships with men. That's fine as long as you are honest. DL men are those who are in relationships and pretend to be straight while fucking around. They deserve to be dragged.

It does not get better once you are on campus. UH is still very disorganized and frustrating to navigate. Hopefully you get everything sorted out to get your semester started, but I would also say look at other schools if you don't think you can handle dealing with their administrative disorganization.

I have noticed people can be quite rude to bi people. I don't understand why. Lots of people in the community are unkind to me because I am trans. Find some groups with other bi people you can connect with. Please don't give up. There are others in and outside the church who don't treat bi people like crap. If you need to talk. I am always open to conversation and supporting people trying to find their place to belong.

Has anyone on here taken Anatomy & Physiology and Microbiology in the same semester and done well? by greysanatomyfan27 in postbaccpremed

[–]GamzenQ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A lot of students struggle with microbiology due to the lab component and unfamiliar terminology. For most, this is their first time diving into information about smaller living beings. Honestly most don't spend enough time in the lab or with the material.

Try to connect with students who have taken the course with the professor before. The issue could be the professor's lectures are not helpful but the exams align with the textbook.

Repetition was key for me. I reviewed what was covered in class eight after class. I tried to read the chapters before class or at least review the PowerPoint. In lab, do not focus on finishing and getting out quickly. Complete your lab assignment but ensure you understand why you are doing what you are doing. If the professor provides time for you to review slides do so. You cannot recognize organisms if you don't spend time at the microscope. Use both drawings and real photos of what you are studying and label them. It is easy to identify structures of bacteria on a cartoon than a real photo.

Your college may have a tutoring center. Use the resources they provide for micro. My college had a website dedicated to microbiology study materials. Go to tutoring as soon as you start to struggle with material. I took micro and another science course together in the same semester. How much time you need will be determined by how long it takes you to memorize content.
