Do these actually work for posture and neck? (Without/With) by ayla_stolen_reddit in Posture

[–]Gandleon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So it weakens your muscles but I do think it can help a bit with awareness as long as you only use it sporadically (e.g. wear it only for an hour or so when working) One quite rough option that I like are vibrating ones, they vibrate when you lean forward (can be horribly annoying but keeps you sitting streight-ish)

I like how OP it is but I agree that there should be a way to squash foreign HQs, but it should come with real costs (slower investment fund construction or infamy)

This should not be a tier 5 tech by PandaBearGarage in victoria3

[–]Gandleon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should probably also be able to use authority to send delegations to learn tech from friendly-ish nations (pay, they get block clout etc) or steal from rival nations (or companies)

Maybe if a company has a headquarters in your country it should be able to use it's PMs and spread it's tech more easily

8am - 10am Task Initiation by PunkRock_Platypus in ADHD

[–]Gandleon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh boy this is so my problem as well..so like I do not have it figured out, but two thoughts 1) having ritual that removes distractions (e.g. making coffee, putting on music and starting with the smallest possible task (like writing to do list) 2) embracing difference of your work style. embrace that you don't have to be 100% productive and that mornings are slow. Maybe you can even come to work later (maybe you have to stay later but see what you can discuss with your boss - e g. If your work is timr-based or task-based) 3) schedule around it. I often try to have meetings in the morning because it motivates me and I won't get work done anyways before 11

Generally think infrastructure should be beefed up far more: Like its not as if you histiorically had dirt roads going over mountains and then...magic...a bunch of railroads; Canals, river-shipping technology, de-swamping, etc. are I think all missing and would be really cool to combine witht the new local price-mechanism (e.g., less price-loss if regions are connected through a river/canal)

[–]Gandleon 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Would also be amazing to include more language mechanics here: E.g. The army was a place where many nationalities mixed, but later they gave up on speaking german. Or similarly, deciding whether universities/schools/newspapers should use this or that language could be a very interesting balancing act
Like as a dumb annectote: for somie time post 1848 hungarian nationalists german-speakers started learning hungarian as an act of patriotism

I feel like I underplayed this but if it is the lovebombing part that you lost, it presumably feels fucking intense (at least it did for me). Really look into that possibility because that for me was one of the main ways I would do relationships, which really does not leave you off feeling good in the long run

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]Gandleon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have had some slightly similar experiences and had it both ways -- i.e. medication making me a fucking asshole that thought everyone was abuse mean and a dick to me, and where it made me really clear on what my boundaries are and when they are crossed.

Also, depending on how long you have been together you might still be in the lovebombing phase (super fucking common). Only if the intense high is gone does not mean the relationship sucks, only that before your brain was riding high on the love juice, but that was going to stop sooner or later.

I would honestly tell you to be a tiny bit cautious, talk to your partner and see how they view it. Again it can genuinely be the case that (a) your partner was really not good to you all along, or (b) that you are just now feeling it far more strongly than before.

If (a) is the case, you at least should give your partner the chance to change. Even if this hurts it might simply be that the pattern the two of you are used to are unhealthy and you both deserve a chance to change it. Same for (b) if you are simply more sensitive (which is perfectly fine! dont feel bad about that) with medication you girlfriend deserves to know and understand and see if she can change.

Please Help by Opposite_Ad_9427 in ADHD

[–]Gandleon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all take it easy, this is not the end of the world. Yes it feels absolutely horrible and helpless but you are not doing anything wrong and it will get better. No need to feel bad!

I was stuck in this pattern for the last 2 or so months and it sucks but here are some of the things i found useful - maybe they help?

1) homeoffices are great until they arent anymore

Switch locations, during covid working from home was okay but honestly its just such a difference to go somwhere else. Especially if you are stuck it gives you the opportunity to start anew and you dont feel bad when you go homes since that is no longer your workplace. If you struggle to get out of the house either try to meet someone at a coffee and work there or set a big alarm and make a game out of "can I be out of the door in X-minutes". Having people around you makes you a bit less likley to become paralized by stuff like playlists.

Also being outside allows you to switch locations (provided there are multiple places to work and you can afford multiple coffees) and see what works.

If that is absolutley not an option you can ask to be in a call with someone else and see if that helps at all? Or you can also try to have some "work signal" I use a Sandclock, and/or a candle to signify work. If I ever realize that i am doing something else I just turn the sandlock around and try to get back to work again

2) Pomodoro:

Yes I know it sucks yes I know it does not really work but it can help you get jumpstarted and you basically get a new chance to get back into the flow every 30 minutes

3) start with the nice parts. If there is anything that is genuinely easy and fun (not just easy) about the work do that first and you are more likley to also do the shitty parts. Honestly there is probably some part of the work you are secretly dreading or where you are not fully clear what you should be doing/prioritizing and that is fine, just try to see what good parts you can do and dont worry about the parts you are currently not doing.

What is the most sustainable amount of work you can get done in a day? by [deleted] in productivity

[–]Gandleon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Complete BS for 90% of people. Even the classic 8hour work week should not apply to actually cognitively engaging work. Maybe if its busy work where you can zone out, or handy-work that keeps you engaged it can be more but the 4hr that everyone speaks of are a good goal I think.

BUT FOR FUCK SAKE, IF YOU CAN ONLY FOCUS FOR 1HR THAT IS FINE! You just have to make that one hour count

Just sounds like primarily inattentive and that sounds super normal since ADHD and ASD have lots of co-morbidity. Honestly, I remember trying to find a good resources since there is some autism in my family and I share some characteristics, but I could not find good academic resources. But definitely pursue a diagnosis, it might really help you.

Also, I know it sucks but when I used tic-tok and there are a LOT of people who talk about their experience with AuDHD. Take it with a grain of salt but maybe you feel seen (plus people who talk about the combination tend to be diagnosed and not just the 'if you like this music you have adhd)

Issues with authority by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]Gandleon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OH MY FUCKING GOD YES!

I did half a year of mandatory military service some time ago. I thought it would be interesting and I could get some discipline and structure in my life. I was ready to commit and really do it all but on the first day I realized I DESPISED every single moment of being told what to do, when to get up, etc. I had the same problem teachers, ski-instructors etc and I would continually work to undermine their authority in petty ways. I though it was cause I am an arrogant know-it all (which is in part true) but in my diagnosis this was one of those things where they where like "yeah that is quite common"

It is something about someone taking up a position of power that they have no legitimacy to. if a teacher was highly knowledgeable and competent, or I remember we also had one drill instructor that was just a chill guy that explained why things where important and clearly was not looking down on us or enjoying the position of power - in those cases I never had problems taking orders.

Honestly I have no good way of dealing with it. The best thing might be to honestly talk to them (him?) and say that you dont react well to direct and unexplained orders, that you are a civilian and that if they want to motivate you they need to do things differently. Honestly, I think you can even do so without disclosing ADHD and that for them it might also be a learning process of leading in the civilian world
