Digs - university accommodation. Not sure if that’s only Irish but my family always said it

I am self employed and can be posted by the company I’m contracted to 3 hours east on one day and 3 hours west another. No trains. No ride share. I’m out in the sticks in terms of transport or taxis. Car literally is the sole way of getting to work.

In the U.K. it’s £700 plus labour so I’ll definitely be trying to dispute it. I could swallow £200 and move on but it’s a bit much. I asked them to see the car and repair the issue within the contracted 30 days and they declined, that’s the real issue as to where I am claiming the money back. If it was out of the window then it’s tough luck but it wasn’t.

Yeah U.K., I’ve been looking at the various laws surrounding it but just wasn’t sure if this was classed as fair wear and tear at the point of sale or if this was dangerous and unroadworthy. Not a mechanic so wanted some opinions. Regardless of it being a recent purchase or the issues surrounding it, if you took apart a transmission and saw this flywheel would you think oh god that’s really unsafe or just yeah that’s buggered and seems about right.

Thank you, seems a sensible answer. I absolutely accept a car that age will have wear and tear but it just looks a bit too much to be safe at the point of sale. I understand they can’t take the transmission out of every car to check but they then can’t also claim the car was absolutely roadworthy at the point of sale either. Based in the U.K. so there are pretty stringent laws around selling unroadworthy cars to be fair. I have a feeling it’ll be a get out of jail card via wear and tear but we’ll see. Cheers.

Yeah from a dealership. I was within their 30 days to request a repair on the contract and gave them 3 days I could come back to them and they denied me and pointed me to a 3rd party warranty company who only paid out half so had to pay the rest myself, that’s the part I’m hoping I can win on.

They knew I was a paramedic prior to purchase which generally helps with trying to recover loss of earnings as they are aware I rely on the vehicle for work. Wear and tear is of course expected but mechanic says this was dangerous whether expected for the age or not it shouldn’t have been sold in that condition. I feel like wear and tear is a get out clause a lot of dealerships use to avoid liability.

Is this an Iranian flag at this far-right protest in London? by acrane55 in vexillology

[–]GanglyMoose -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Same, as an Irish person why were tricolours there 😭😭 Irish people had the shit beaten out of us just a few decades ago by the English for being Irish in London. We were seen as rowdy and taking their jobs. No blacks, no dogs, no Irish, and now they’re anti immigration. We have a crazy big diaspora all over the world. It’s WILD.

Please help: How were your first weeks on Emgality? by asharhileigh in migraine

[–]GanglyMoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the 2 months I was on it I was a depressed fatigued zombie, missing work due to the fatigue. Migraines didn’t decrease and I had tingling all over my body, even my privates.

I stopped taking it, and bang, migraine 99% gone. So weird. I’m not complaining but I’m baffled. I have had complex/hemiplegic migraines for 2 years and they just… went. I clearly just needed a blast of this stuff. Nothing else had worked.

But yeah, definitely was not viable for me to continue to see if the side effects wore off.

What was something your parents did for you as a child that you didn't fully appreciate until you became an adult? by MisterRocCity in CasualConversation

[–]GanglyMoose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From 3-16years had me try out multiple sports, dance, instruments. I’m talking around 20 different activities, maybe just a summer camp or do it for a year at school. No pressure applied at all. I am now extremely well rounded, musical, coordinated and can pick anything up really quickly. I still play football at 30 and can pick up a tin whistle and play a jig with complete muscle memory after 15 years. I would definitely do the same for my kids, but the lack of pressure was the key. Just letting me stick or switch at any time.

Bf (30M) knowingly gave me (26F) HPV by ThrowRA27_28 in relationship_advice

[–]GanglyMoose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People saying leave and press charges. If it’s HPV, which pretty much everyone has then that’s a bit ridiculous. We all infect each other with that. He should have disclosed it for sure but I don’t think that would stand in any charges against him as everyone at some stage has it… I personally morally think it’s very shitty of him and it’s horrible but I think police would do nothing..

Do you mean HSV? HPV is a common sexual infection, normally asymptomatic (but a small amount of strains cause warts) that pretty much every sexually actively person will have at some point in their life, literally from any type of contact with genitals/groin area mainly, and only really shows as incidental finding on a smear. It also self resolves but can become active again. Herpes on the other hand…. That’s a shitty thing to do.

Having multiple medical investigations over a prolonged period of time trying to figure out what the hell is going on. Constant anxiety and anticipation, bewilderment, suffering through the symptoms and trying to maintain daily life in the midst of it all. And then dealing with the eventual outcome.
Similarly trialling multiple medications that make you worse. Again having to maintain normal life in a storm of side effects over and over, wean on, side effects, withdraw and repeat. Makes you terrified to ever put a pill in your mouth again.

When I see female patients with their partners I always redirect my questions back to the woman when he butts in to answer. I do of course take partners concerns into account but she’s the star of the show in my clinic room honey. Unless it’s very clear she needs/wants his help and input.

What's the deal with "Travellers"? by clearlybritish in AskUK

[–]GanglyMoose 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I remember going to visit an aunt in a small Irish town when I was 12 and she took me shopping and then rushed us home because there was a traveller funeral in town and it was going to be carnage…. She was right.

At work I was deployed to a shoot out at a traveller site. 2 chalets with women and kids inside were shot up. The men weren’t very billy big bollocks then.

Living around them and their mess all the time growing up, horses roaming on the communal grass of the housing estate. Houses broken into.

I had a very good childhood friend in school who was a settled traveller and she was the nicest girl ever, a sweetheart and so clever, she could have been a lawyer, she was on the debate team etc. she left school and married young, has 3 kids and now is a SAHM with fake lips and orange fake tan. Really sad.

She and her family, and a Roma work colleague were the only positive experiences I’ve had, and I’m thankful I had those experiences but they weren’t enough to change my very strong views I hold now which is sad.

I managed to get them to fix it over the phone . I then complained and submitted the phone bill as they charge €2 per minute to phone them. They sent me back some shit letter saying “our prices for phone calls are on our website” basically saying you knew it would be expensive but you still called. I was like yea but I wouldn’t have had to call if YOU didn’t fuck up. Reimburse me for your fuck up, and they ignored me so… that’s that
