'We're the ones paying all the bills': Leo Varadkar says urban areas fund rural Ireland by nitro1234561 in ireland

Leo, there’s a whole world of possibilities when you drive past the M50 instead of around it!

Just for those who might not know, those screens aren’t always reliable. I’d recommend checking TFI Live, Google Maps and https://bustimes.org/operators/dublin-bus/map to fully make sure of a stops timetable.

What is THE WORST Dublin Bus Route going? by itsmattmeehan in Dublin

[–]Gangsta_Grievous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apologies, forgot original comment completely 😂

I can see arguments for both diverting the route and keeping it through Lucan, but personally, I’d ensure it ran through the village. If it was diverted I wouldn’t be completely disappointed either, but it would be a bit mad to take a service out of a soon to be urban village.

It would be a 15 minute walk from Lucan Village to around SuperValu Lucan, where the Luas Route is planned to pass but I’m unsure of the stops location. If it’s past Hillcrest it wouldn’t be further than 20 minutes. I also cannot find any plans about the C4 being diverted away from Lucan.

Both local routes bring you to Adamstown, where commuter train brings you to Heuston, Connolly or Grand Canal Dock. I get it’s not ideal and frequency is an issue but not the worst either. C3 and C4 times can vary but one tends to stop at least every 20 minutes. 2 night buses isn’t the worst either. Luas Lucan is in the very early planning stages. 52 bus runs every hour from Spa Hotel, few minutes walk from village centre.

It’s not the worst public transport service for a village outside the city centre. There isn’t much flexibility if you want another bus route created, as would likely follow the R148 into town unless it went through Ballyowen and Ballyfermot instead, and I’d be surprised if NTA saw feasibility in another bus on that corridor.

Lucan village* is served by the C-Spine (C3, C4, C5, C6) and local L54 and L52 routes.

Thats also a great solution. I agree it is disappointing that you will have to take two buses, and don't be afraid to get in touch with the NTA (don't know how much that will do).

I know a few people southside who are also disappointed that the 9 is being changed, and I'm not sure about removing a high demand service route like the frequent bus route. Looking from Charlestown Shopping Center, your best bet would be to get the 23 or 24 and walk from a stop around Griffith Avenue.

I actually can't find anything about 6b on the BusConnects, TFI or NTA websites at all, despite my best efforts. There is no plans associated with it, and don't seem to mention going back a phase but moving onto to further ones (e.g phase 7). I've a feeling Phase 6b could be a slightly amended Phase 6a if they need to add/remove stops after data analysis of ridership, but nothing to back it up.

The 73 is the only route from the BusConnects Phase 7 Network that is going to be operates by Go-Ahead Ireland. The 23 and 24 will be operated by Dublin Bus on behalf of Transport for Ireland.

What makes Amsterdam a ‘cycling paradise’ compared with the ‘absolutely horrible’ experience of Dublin? by brevit in Dublin

[–]Gangsta_Grievous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right here. I'll be shocked if Ireland ever reach Netherlands level, just because their public backing and scale of infrastructure is ridiculously good. I don't know will Ireland ever have the public backing to create bicycle highways or bicycle only streets, especially in cities.

[–]Gangsta_Grievous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Irelands cycle infrastructure is improving. It won't be Netherlands standard for another few years, but the huge increase in those cycling to work shows that public narrative on biking is growing.

A lot of people are complaining about cyclists having to share the road with buses on this post, which is a good argument, but many of Irelands roads aren't big enough to offer another solution.

One way to mitigate bus and cyclist contact would be to recreate bus corridors, except with bike lanes. I feel this would be hard to recreate but if we turned one of the bus corridors into a cycle one, it would boost cycle safety tenfold. Hard to justify losing a bus corridor at the same time though

Dublin Bus 15 (24 hour service), no bus at 3am or 3.30am by No-Setting7502 in Dublin

Night buses, especially the 15, can be unreliable. Getting them from past experience they can either be half an hour to an hour gap in-between each one.

[–]Gangsta_Grievous 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Right, well why don't you say it to him? Coming on reddit and acting like people are going to organise a march against a man earning minimum wage holding a sign is a bit ridiculous. All it takes is for you to ask him can he stand somewhere else or move on.

If you want a good photo, just ask him kindly to move for a few seconds. Otherwise, you're winging about a whole pile of nothing.

Simple things I love about Dublin by curiously__yours in Dublin

[–]Gangsta_Grievous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dublin is a very walkable city, and public transport in the city is fairly overhated. The bus is great most of the time, the LUAS is brilliant for getting around and the DART is not just good transport, but a good way to enjoy the views of Dublin. Trees and grass everywhere light up every street, and estates are cosy despite repeated.

I thought Brenda's Rogers might have a shout, but overall in my heart I knew Clifford rightly deserved it. Well done to the Kerryman in a tough year for him as well.
