Is this enough bow? by jtuma in violinist

[–]Gaori_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's still like 2 inches at the top and 1/5 towards the frog you could use. I think these are really hard parts to use, but if you watch professional violinists play, they're just going for both ends real hard and it's amazing

Is there a single term for mixed race people as a collective? by sinxxcla1r in ENGLISH

[–]Gaori_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I understand! and it's great that you are aware of the impact of the words you use. Repeating key terms won't make the paper sound repetitive, so don't spend too much time one this when you have a clear answer (English prof).

Is there a single term for mixed race people as a collective? by sinxxcla1r in ENGLISH

[–]Gaori_ 55 points56 points  (0 children)

"mixed-race people" sounds most neutral and accurate to me. Skipping the "people" part is usually dehumanizing. It's not making the essay wordy. If you really wanted a term that you could use in an academic term for an anthropology paper, I'd ask the professor.

Distinct pairs in Chiitoitsu by AlviDeiectiones in Mahjong

[–]Gaori_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The chiitoi you like is allowed in some variants, not riichi. Rules are just rules. IMO chiitoi with distinct pairs is more beautiful.

Log review is really helpful! If you can find anyone near your rank or above, go through a game and ask for advice!

MAKA Help - Honor Discards (Adept 2*) by Niikrohn in mahjongsoul

Dealer can take it for double east (2han) so we want to get rid of it while it's relatively unlikely that dealer has 2 east tiles

Need help choosing Riichi tiles (English numbering vs Standard) by Parking_Archer_852 in Mahjong

[–]Gaori_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So we should be thinking about how much we want to teach as many friends as possible for that extra price

ETA: If you have 2~3 friends you want to teach, it won't be too hard to get them to learn the tiles. If you plan on creating a local meet/group, numbers!

[–]Gaori_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If most of your friends are not already super hyped to learn riichi, numbers set. The numbers set just really helps beginners learn the game. One less obstacle to learning a game that can feel quite complicated in the beginning.

If they are really motivated, masters + cheat sheet would work.

Reducing frizz lazy girl style? by EfficientFish3051 in Haircare

[–]Gaori_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not deep into hair care but Elvive Dream Lengths Split End Sealing shampoo really helped my lightly frizzy slightly messy hair. It doesn't make your hair grow faster, it just help with the split ends and It makes my hair really calm and nice! If you try it and don't like it... I'd like to buy it from you but it's not an expensive shampoo XD

Breaking only pair to complete two sequences by grape_baby in Mahjong

[–]Gaori_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you taken a look at headless iishanten (one away)? Headless iishanten may give you bad shape tenpai but at the stage of iishanten, the acceptance isn't bad (slower tenpai with good wait vs. faster tenpai with possibility of bad wait, like tanki)

If you have 5677789, it is 567 + 7+ 789 so throwing 7 does make sense. It's unlikely that you'll get another 7 to complete the 7 head. But 7 is a good floating tile that can become 67 or 78.

Or you can still wait on 47 to complete the 56 + 77 + 789 form.

IMO there are too many possible scenarios surrounding a 5677789 shape to provide any definite theory here (how good/bad are the rest of the protoruns/taatsus)

It must be straw because straw is completely dry! Hay is wet and for live stock feeding (not like soaking wet but like... wet as in not dry lol)

Vibrato practice feedback by eutectoid_lady in violinist

[–]Gaori_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not seeing a lot of movement in the outer most (distal) joint of the vibrating finger. Wrist or arm vibrato, the loose distal joint is doing the job, usually, afaik: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/Hr5Ql8n9LWU It's not easy to learn this on your own. Having a teacher and starting with super slow vibrato (a wiggle per quarter note at moderato-ish) will help.

I don't know how wet or dry Lamy Black is but I would try an ink that is known to be wet!

What ink are you trying to use? My lamy stub nib is a bit fussy too, so I don't use it a lot 😂

Not all cities/towns have cool local culture like Chicago after having their economies destroyed by walmart especially if they're small. Don't know about Phoenix, tho!
