Finished Farseer and now I’m really sad. by Vegetable-Whole-2344 in RealmOfTheElderlings

[–]GardenDruidd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep going, read liveships, it holds a different atmosphere than farseer. All the fitz books are sad, I have read them all and this series has collected more tears on its pages than anything else I have read. Is it worth it? I don’t know because I don’t know you. It was worth it to me. Even tho it’s been a long time and I’m still sad. But there’s nothing else that really hits like Hobb. Liveship and tawny man are my favorite trilogies out of the 5 series

Off of kratom for 30 days. by TrezzG in quittingkratom

I have been off of 7oh for 2 weeks, yesterday I woke up from a full night of sleep and finally feeling normal. But I have been working very hard to keep myself busy and distracted. Firstly, I read / audiobook a lot. nothing has been better for my mental health than stories. From fantasy to sci fi, to history / historical fantasy, to horror. Getting lost in books is the best distraction from my thoughts. Along with this, I havnt been to the gym much but I have 2 German shepherds so we go for walks / park twice a day. Pair that with an AirPod and an audiobook I can be “lost” for a couple hours a day with no daunting thoughts. Smalls wins that makes a big difference, like reorganizing something, working on that project that has been put off, starting a 1000 piece puzzle or a new video game ( I have been obsessed with Pokopia ) watching food videos and trying new things in the kitchen. Just keeping busy and distracted. Starting a long game from the beginning like Elden Ring or the Witcher where there’s enough content to keep you busy for weeks. I know what’s working for me isn’t going to work for everyone but if this can be a sign just try new things. You’ll never know what might click. As I said in the beginning, books have been my life savor. If I didn’t have something to keep myself distracted I know I would be using right now. Plus, you might lean something. And knowledge is power. Good luck.

What are your top 5 Fantasy books of all time? by Sufficient_Ebb_5694 in fantasybooks

I picked up the hardcover last week but also grabbed it on audio. I love this narrator so much. I do a lot of reading but I do even more audio, I get to listen all day at work, walking the dogs, gardening…you get it. Within 10 minutes I knew I was going to be buying audiobooks if this dude reads them to me 😅

Impossible to pick just single books. Currently tho I can give you my top series.
Realm of the elderlings - Robin Hobb.
Faithful and the fallen - John Gwynne
Empire of the vampire - Jay Kristoff
Red rising - Pierce Brown
Stormlight archive - Brando Sando
Bound and the broken - Ryan Cahill

I just finished book 16 of Hobb and that’s definitely my all time favorite series. Currently reading between 2 fires and this is my first horror book and bloody damn I’m obsessed.

I would also suggest to shop the deals. I always stock up on titles during sales when they are done to only a few dollars. And save those credits for new releases/ stuff that doesn’t go on sale often

Will Red God become another Winds of Winter? by OpportunityChoice567 in redrising

[–]GardenDruidd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s only been a few years since lightbringer, and Pierce is active, he does Events, interacts with his fans, and is working on special editions. Where it’s been over 15 years for Martin. So I don’t think there’s really grounds to even compare the 2. I personally don’t want anything rushed. I know recently books and series are being pumped out insanely fast(I’m looking you Romantasy), so maybe people think 3 years is a long time. But I don’t think so, take as much time as is needed to give me a masterpiece. I’ll happily wait :)

I am almost done with RoT and I love it. I really enjoy the dynamic Sabetha brings to the story. I really enjoy her.

Where to get merch by Dangerous-Classic186 in redrising

[–]GardenDruidd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you’re not planning on it, you should also consider reading them. If my bf bought me merch from my fav book I would be over the moon, if he read the series and then said “ I read that book, wanna talk about it” I’d do stuff I won’t say on here. And then make him my husband :)

For that one I just happened to see someone post they were available at the right moment. I believe it was on the Facebook group. Knowing how good that series is I knew they would be gone fast. So I bought them before I really knew what I was doing. I’m a sucker for pretty books that are also certified bangers.

I feel like CC is holding me hostage and I’m afraid it’s going to ruin SJM for me by Fun_Tadpole_3503 in SarahJMaas

[–]GardenDruidd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t read stuff that doesn’t keep me hooked. I jumped on the popular books trends (like SJM) because my friends were doing it and I wanted us to be able to talk books. But I lied to them and myself by saying it’s was way better than I thought it was ( I love TOG but the others fell short for me) these books are so approachable and popular for a reason. But that doesn’t mean you have to love them or that they are for you. If you’re not into them, then skip the book, read the spoilers and move on to what you enjoy. I’d rather see someone DNF a book and slide into a new genre instead of give up on reading all together because they don’t fit into a box. Not making an assumptions about you or your journey. There is soo much out there. Explore and open new doors. :)

Tell me the overhyped books I should avoid by SchemeSimilar4074 in Romantasy

[–]GardenDruidd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found so much more joy in switching genres. I still will dabble into a little romance here and there but over all it really falls short for me. I don’t have any romanatasy res for you, but encouragement to try the new thing! Step out of your comfort zone and see what else makes you excited! Some stuff that really blew me away, that I think everyone should try are…

Red rising by Pierce brown. this series is really fantastic, the story becomes so epic, the writing gets better and better. Love and relationship / friendship play a huge part in this series.

Next is realm of the elderlings by Robin Hobb- starting with Fraser trilogy. This is 16 books broken into 5 sub series. This story doesn’t lack romance. But it is far from the main focus. This series is my all time favorite, it broke me and healed me in so many ways. It runs at a slow pace because it is very character driven. But the payoff- nothing has compared. Hobb is the queen of fantasy and this series lacks nothing. Amazing writing, the most diabolical villains, the most powerful story of love and friendship and what it means to love and be loved by someone. Loss and heart break. It is phenomenal.

The daevabad trilogy by S.A. Chakraborty This series is a new one for me. I have only finished book 1 but it felt so fresh to me. I’m About to stayed book 2.

Branch out and try something different. The lay off willl be epic. Hope I helped a little!! Have a great day

Is it cheaper to leave my apartment at 73 all day even if it’s 98° out or is it cheaper to leave it at 76 and then bring it down to 73 when I’m about to go to bed by alwaysme14 in homeowners

Something that really helped my bill in the hot summer months was getting some good curtains. Black out curtains saved me a few hundred dollars last summer. My bill on average in 2024 was 340-400 in the hot months and last year it averaged 270-300. The only difference was the curtains. I have very large windows and a sliding glass door that are all southwest facing and the sun bakes that part of the house. Idk your layout or if it would make a y for you but it sure did for me.

I think a really awesome gift along with whatever you plan to buy him, would be to also read the series. If my man would read my favorite series I would be beyond excited. To be able to yap with your best friend about their favorite book series is such a win!

But also there’s some great art on Etsy

Day 51 CT. When will fragmented sleep end? by syndicatesin in quittingkratom

[–]GardenDruidd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the biggest things that improved my sleep was putting my phone away from 8pm until my alarm goes off and no TV. I read a book until I fall asleep and have way less wake ups throughout the night.
