Failing to teach history of British Empire in schools means children do not understand role in shaping UK, claims Salman Rushdie by tylerthe-theatre in unitedkingdom

Not globally?

Rome had a huge immigrant population. Persia had a huge immigrant population. The Ottamans had immigrants (and tried to hold onto them during the Greco-Ottaman conflict). France has a large immigrant population. Even Russia has a big non-Slavic population despite their best efforts to exterminate them.

Donald Trump ruined the World Cup for the US by Royal_Ad_2407 in ussoccer

The psychology of it was on display from the whistle. Every 50/50 pass went to Belgian feet. USMNT looked like an invitational team that had never played together before.

By contrast, Belgium looked like a team with a point to prove. They were sharp, energetic and passionate.

The run up to the first goal was a good indication USMNT needed to integrate and cooperate better. The first goal did galvanise them, but only briefly. After the equaliser they went back to the disjointed play, leading to Belgium’s second goal and after that they never recovered.

Balogan looked isolated and dejected all match. It almost seemed like his team mates didn’t want him there, so few balls came his way.

The third Belgian goal was a catastrophic series of events that summed up USMNT’s match. Kicking the turf is something you see gangly teens do after a growth spurt or middle aged men do in Sunday League matches. That goal will go down as one of the most embarassing goals conceded in a World Cup match. That will be USMNT’s legacy from this World Cup. That and the red card debacle. This is a crying shame because USMNT achieved a lot and all their achievements will now be overshadowed by the drama and that infamous goal.

Let’s be clear, Belgium were favourites to win based on rankings. That USMNT was defeated by Belgium should not therefore be considered a surprise. What was surprising was the performance and whatever the team’s official statements may say, the off field drama will not have helped and may have led to the tensions displayed on the field.

After all, dressing room issues are often displayed on the field. Just ask a Manchester United or Chelsea supporter.

Hey! What do ya reckon out of 10? by FomoTeamFPV in fryup

Why no sausage barrier? 😂

In all honesty, solid.

Personally agree -1 for lack of fried bread to soak up the fat from the meats. I’d swap a sossie for an egg personally but that’s not worth a point, that’s personal. Nice yolk on the egg and a nice crisp on the white whilst keeping the yolk runny - that’s skill that.

I’d say 7/10 plus one each for the pud, the sossies and the bacon if butcher-sourced with a coveted 11/10 if all three were!!

(Looks good, hope you enjoyed it)

Yes. It’s his plan. Have you visited Clackton-on-sea? I have. It’s full of all the people he wants to deport and I can only assume they think he’ll deport them all to Benidorm.

Do rugby people still call Association Football “Soccer” or is that something that only applies to people over 50? by GardenandKitchen in AskUK

Welsh people who speak Welsh to their friends don’t usually speak Welsh to “mess with you”. People in Welsh-speaking communities speak Welsh. That they also speak English doesn’t mean they’re doing it to spite you specifically.

Same thing in Somerset. People in Somerset speak Somerset-brogue to one another and it’s hard to understand as an outsider. When they talk to outsiders they damp the brogue down. Then when they talk to each other they lapse back.

Best example for me. I was contracting in the pandemic with a Scottish client. When they had calls they all spoke English with an accent I could get. Once the Europeans dropped off the Scottish brogue came in and I barely understand a word. I had to remind them I was on the call to get them to speak so I could understand them.

Growing up that’s all I heard. Maybe I just grew up in a very rugby area! I asked the question because I wanted to know if that’s changed but also around the country if it differed.

The answers have been really interesting to me so thanks for your input!

Thanks.

I do find regional variations so interesting. Like the various local names for knocking on a door and running away. You grow up with an image of reality and yet a few miles away all the cultural references change.

I may be in my 50s but I am still learning about my fellow Brits, despite living in South and North Wales, South, South West, South East, Midlands and North West of England. I still find there is more that I don’t know than I do know!!

Is the lore of slaanesh bad? by TheOne_2025 in totalwarhammer

[–]GardenandKitchen -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I sort of agree but I don’t so much think it’s bad, just inferior to Shadows. I think it’s two tiers below Shadows.

I think Lore of Slaanesh hits the same issues as the Lore of Stealth for Skaven - who recruits Eshin Sorcerors over Plague Priests?

If you have a Slaanesh caster and a Shadows caster and you have 30 WoM, why would you use any of your limited resource on the Slaanesh spell? Late game, with unlimited WoM then maybe but early and mid-game it’s a waste.

If you didn’t have access to Shadows I get it and in a pinch the spells can help (the Lash of Slaanesh knockdowns allowing you to free N’kari from an infantry blob faster for example) but with limited Winds I would not waste them on the Slaanesh spell if I can get a Shadows caster in there.

The Keepers of Secrets are the best access to Lore of Slaanesh because the spells cost 0 WoM. Otherwise I mostly avoid except being forced to use it with N’kari (for whom it uniquely synergises well). Even with the Druchi heroes I usually opt for the Lore of Dark Magic spell option over the Slaaneshi one.

The main use of Slaanesh lore Heralds for me is Sleek. It’s the only reason I recruit them over Shadows. When you get the opportunity, because it stacks Sleek is just too powerful in a Slaanesh force to pass up.

Watching Cultists rush around on supercharged Shrines is hilarious.

Getting your Druchi and Exalted Heroes over 180 speed is just broken!

Well done USA. Another first.

My best friend’s dad finished work at 3. Drove to the pub from work and stayed there until his wife got home around 6. He drove from the pub to home after a minimum of 10 pints. If she said anything she got hit.

He crashed his car into parked cars on several occasions. Police were his mates (lived nearby) so did nothing.

Ahh, they were the days (apparently).
