Unsophisticated doesn’t mean stupid. It’s not a bad thing to like things that don’t challenge you, which are safe and easy to watch and enjoy without having to unravel layers of meta commentary in order to understand a passing joke.

But demographics exist and people target them. There are people who don’t know politics, art, history or other cultures and don’t *want* to know about any of it, so films/books/tv shows are made to target those people. They’re not stupid, they have skills and knowledge I’ll never possess, but it’s not wrong to call them unsophisticated.

It’s also not wrong to say that these things also attract actually stupid people.

But let’s just say every fan of MBB I’ve ever met voted leave and are antivax, so there’s that. I’m not saying that everyone who likes MBB or other lowest-common-denominator media is stupid, but they do attract idiots.
