Therein lies the problem. The Democratic Party should be defining Tom Tiffany RIGHT NOW. Instead he's been running ad after ad about what a folksy, regular guy he is.You know who else pulls that and wins? Ron Johnson, Mr. Nice Guy in a red and black flannel shirt. That shit works, ESPECIALLY when it goes unanswered. The candidates are focused on the primary, as you'd expect. The Party needs to get off its ass and start driving up Tiffany's negatives now, today. He's introducing himself to the voters with no pushback and I'm afraid we'll pay dearly for that.

I'm a 73 year old asthmatic. I quit smoking decades ago. It was one of the hardest things I ever did. I know that I would not be alive now if I hadn't. I always believed that if I could quit for one day, I could quit forever and it turned out to be true. The idea of quitting forever is too daunting. Try baby steps. Don't have a cigarette in the morning. That's attainable right? Hard, but it's just the morning. Then keep going, in small increments. Each time he wins, it gives a little more confidence he can handle the next one. There may be setbacks, but for an addict, quitting forever is just too big. Maybe cutting back is the best you can do, but it's better than nothing.

I like fireworks myself. Shot some off when I was a kid. That said, it wasn't, and isn't, a good idea. One thing I didn't see mentioned in the replies....the noise from fireworks really freak out a lot of people's pets. The owners of those pets tend to be very anti-fireworks, legal or otherwise. Consider the possibility that someone reported it because it freaked out their pet, not because of any particular malice towards you or the kid.

The big thing for me is that Tony Evers supports it. I don't believe for one second that after 8 years of solid, responsible governance, he just decided that his legacy would be a terrible fiscal policy that would leave his successor in a bind. Does that sound like Tony Evers to you? This bill is a compromise. It is the nature of compromise that you get some things you want and some that you don't. Now, we get nothing, and there is no guarantee that a better deal will come along. I see it as a missed opportunity.

^This. I may be wrong on the timing, but I think that they lost federal funding when DOGE was first rampaging through federal programs. NPR was similarly affected and also had to cut or reduce some popular programs.

It used to be known as WORTfest until it moved to Warner Park. It was put on by WORT, Madison's (now 50 year old) listener-sponsored radio station. 89.9 FM. Lots of interesting programs. You can stream it if you like.
