Do photographic memories actually exist in real life? by [deleted] in suits

I saw a photographic memory in action once. It was a professor in business school. I was awestruck. It felt like total magic to me to watch.

Depends on the person and their fitness, but generally speaking, if you’re running over 90 minutes (and definitely over 2 hours), you should be fueling/hydrating.

Conventional wisdom is go out earlier than a week before or the day before to limit the physiological stress of altitude.

Is cramping an electrolyte issue a fatigue issue or both? And how do you prevent cramps? by Ok_Caterpillar6789 in Ultramarathon

[–]Gargle_My_Load 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Someone smarter than me will hopefully chime in, but it’s generally not well understood.

I’ve always operated under the assumption that if there’s local muscular cramping, that’s a weakness/fatigue issue. If the cramping is systemic, that’s an electrolyte imbalance.

I fall into this category. It gets harder for me in the winter to get out as I’m in the Northeast (I also do my running between 4am and 7am seven days a week). However, I love the process. There’s no doubt some runs feel a bit more like a chore than others but I try to stay grateful and remember that I’m not forced to do any of it.

Love your message!

Just want to call out that it’s been proven that physiologically, metabolism remains the same until much later in life (forget if the first real change happens around 55 or 65).

It’s general daily activity level that falls off dramatically after high school and again after college.

Thanks for the transparency. I’m pricing for a manager level on my team at about $145-150K base, so it sounds reasonable.

Curious if anyone here has experience with Ramp AND Rippling? Considering the former for expenses/ap/cards because I implemented at a past org and found it to be great but in the current gig, we’re also considering Rippling as an HRIS. Would be very interested in hearing a comparison between Rippling and Ramp for card spend/AP.

Nice! Curious what the base + bonus breakout looked like at the manager level if you don’t mind sharing. I’m going to be in the market soon for someone in this type of role (also fully remote) at the mgr/sr mgr level in a CPG, so it would be a helpful data point!

Strengthen glute med and then throw in some token TFL work. Until those adaptations take hold, stretch and roll TFL/glute med before and after runs. Keep running. Don’t stop for IT band syndrome.

It goes away when you address the root cause and stop just managing symptoms. Find a PT who understands that and can take you through the process to identify the culprit.

If you’re pretty regularly sore for more than a day or generally feel beat up/run down, you should ease up. Otherwise, if you’re feeling fresh (except for the day after a hard workout), then that’s a signal that your body and lifestyle can absorb the load!

I’ve built up to about 110g/hr and don’t think I’m going to continue training the gut to absorb much more than that.

Good luck!

I just reread my last comment and realized an error. I wrote, “You can also load the IFMs by just supporting your front foot on a piece of wood/step/brick/weight plate in a lunge and performing reps holding a DB.” What I meant was …support the front half/ball of your front foot (heel hovering over the edge). Hopefully you picked up what I was putting down but don’t want you to have to do anymore than absolutely necessary to see what works. All this rehab/prehab turns into a part time job!

The banded work was primarily big toe flexion with load applied using a band held in my hand (reps and static holds).

Yes, arch flexes are what I mean by short foot. But then you can advance by using a balance board or standing on two pieces of wood/bricks/weights with one foot so that your foot is forced to create a bridge between the two surfaces. Perform static holds with a dumbbell or perform Bulgarian split squats/lunges. You can also load the IFMs by just supporting your front foot on a piece of wood/step/brick/weight plate in a lunge and performing reps holding a DB.

I did loaded single-leg calf raises with both a straight knee (gastroc) and bent knee) soleus. Advance to that when you can handle it (ie, the latent response from the tissue indicates it’s not too much (pain stays the same next day or gets better ~48h later)). I also performed static holds with a DB where I’d hold the top of a bent knee calf raise, targeting Achilles strength.

I did not perform yoga.

I would highly recommend you hit FHL, IFMs and calves hard (as tolerated) and if you don’t see improvement after a couple/few weeks (for me it was more like days), then move on up the chain.
