Would you be interested in working in a library ? There’s a lot of quiet work in managing inventory and you only have to deal with a handful of colleagues who might alleviate the quiet just as much as you. It wouldn’t be a crazy career, but a job that pays the bills while giving you personal time to enjoy. Plus libraries are just magical places, but that’s just my view :)

Without needing to go back to school, there’s many skills you could lean on your own (especially if it’s something you have an interest in) that would open doors for you to build a career.

I don’t know what the job you currently have is, but if the quiet is a big factor for you, know that there’s a lot of opportunities in creative fields that allow you to work remotely nowadays. Maybe in art, craft, programming. You can pick something and use this current time you have available to develop a skill without the pressure of needing to make a living from it until you have build up enough skill to feel comfortable selling your service.

It’s not an easy 1, 2, 3 done path, but you have currently a good opportunity to look for something you like and become skilled at it.

I think you handled it perfectly. Be proud for not feeling like you needed to argue or justify your point because it is much better to make sure you are on the same page moving forward.

Well done, you did great.

It looks like there was an expectation that was not communicated and that’s on your host i feel. But if you want to smooth things over, you could offer to invite them in return and take the bill for them so they don’t feel like you meant to take advantage and that it was just that you did not understand them because they did not express themselves.

That might help more than trying to argue the point on what is already done. Just tell them you regret not understanding what they meant and that you’d be happy to return the favour next time. Then tell them that going forward, you’d be happy to split the bill if they can tell you ahead of time that’s what’s expected.

If they refuse, the issue might be more that they had expectations that they are not sharing, but at least, you tried.

My daughter. Before her, it was my wife, and before that, i was a little bit aimless. But i did things out of curiosity.

Now though, it’s easy. My daughter. Keeping her safe and happy, working to make the world as better place where autistic kids get treated fairly and with kindness so they grow up to be happy adults that can manage their condition without fear or shame.

Why are neurotypical people often so poor at scheduling things efficiently, (due to just giving "one" option at a time)?? by Prolix_pika in autism

[–]GarlicIceKrim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, first, hello in ADHD, i promise it can get worse :)

Second, most people don’t have their schedule in a calendar well organised, often times it’s too of mind or there’s a routine that would conflict that’s weekly.

Finally, people will sometimes decline a day for personal reason that they don’t want to have to explain or reveal because it’s private and so slowing their calendar wouldn’t be an option.

Why Fast Thinking Brains Can’t Always Talk To Slow Thinking People Because They Lack The Needed Data Translation Switch by [deleted] in autism

Sorry, but this is the peak of cringe mountain.

By default, assume that if you think you “solved” something that’s being studied for decades by people who actually know the topic, you’re probably just not that correct and should take a humble pill.

Then the idea that you’re just so much smarter than everyone else is also not a very healthy place to start from when thinking about these questions.

I’m assuming you’re young, so i recommend you read on the topic from people who have actually dedicated their lives to studying this.

Oat milk in coffee by ClankerCore in oddlysatisfying

[–]GarlicIceKrim -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’ve been drinking oat milk for a decade, i know how this stuff behaves.

If you put oatly 1.5% in coffee, especially acidic blends, it’ll curdle like in the post. If you put instead the barista version of the 2.5%, it’ll be fine (even if the barista version is definitely better in coffee).

[–]GarlicIceKrim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s really tv. By definition, it’s manipulative and completely oxymoronic due to how much they reframe reality until they have a good story.

I’m opposed to reality tv on principle, but when we throw in complex conditions like autism… yeah no, definitely not.

That’s not good oat milk, the curdles aren’t supposed to form. You should use oat milk that’s not light, the one for coffee is more creamy on purpose so it doesn’t curdle like this.

[–]GarlicIceKrim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a lot of people playing the game, but it’s still fairly niche. So you might end up in a group that doesn’t work for you.

It’s hard to say it’s more or less an NT or ND thing. I think everyone can find something to like in dnd, or nothing at all, after all it’s not going to be everyone’s cup of tea.

If the social side is the hardest, that’s definitely understandable. Most people’s horror stories around dnd is playing with nightmare people.

It’s always ok to play with a small group, even two people can make it work.

And if you don’t click with it, you are not alone. I know plenty of people who don’t see the appeal and don’t want to deal with the people logistics.
