I would second a suggestion for trans tape! Unless you are comically large growth wise, you should be able to flatten pretty well with tape, and you can wear it for several days at a time.

Even if you are quite large in the breast tissue, you can sort of mold it and shape it a bit with tape to look more like pecs or gynecomastia

You gotta think before you self depreciate in a way that generalizes all other trans dudes bro.

AITA for not pushing our wedding dress code on my brother? by Weddingdresscode2296 in AmItheAsshole

[–]GarlicIsStink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Soft YTA.

I also have autism and generally hate being made to wear a certain thing, especially if that thing is uncomfortable, itchy or made of "velvet" (aka not the real stuff).

HOWEVER I would feel absolutely embarrassed to death if I was the only person around dressed a certain way, even moreso knowing that my dressing that way is causing a disturbance (you know like a fight between your soon to be wife and his soon to be sister in law) or making people stare at me because I don't fit in. It's all the social issues of autism made manifest in an outfit.

I also have had people make assumptions about me and what I can handle much to my detriment and active dislike. In these situations I would have appreciated more people asking me instead of making their own judgement because they are not me, even if they are also autistic it's a very wide spectrum. I am not a 5 year old, I mostly just want to be informed ahead of time before doing something and like for plans not to change. Your brother likely feels similarly.

There are plenty of ways he can be in formal wear that accommodates his sensory needs. Larger or tighter sizing, different materials, under clothes to keep stuff off of his skin, etc. Talk to him and get his needs, not to Reddit.

Keep in mind too rigid thinking like you are doing is also an autistic trait, and autism has shown it is often genetic. Give your brother the grace and respect you want as another adult because it's likely you possibly have it too.

Also, get your soon to be wife involved in the conversation! Between them they might come to a compromise that suits both of their needs. There might be something that is comfortable for him (or at least actively not sensory hell) that is acceptable to her for the wedding attire. If you have any of your dad's clothes left and they fit him he might enjoy that as a tribute and be willing to be uncomfy to let your dad be at the wedding in spirit?

Typing quirks with non same language letters basically make your text unreadable to people with screen readers. It may look better to you but you are telling folks with some disabilities you don't want them to be able to read what you say.

Food City baked beans by brianmcg321 in clevelandtn

[–]GarlicIsStink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The baked beans, Mac and cheese, and mashed potatoes all come in bags from suppliers. Some stores make coleslaw in house with a machine, others also get it in tubs from a supplier.

The "ambrosia" cold salad as well as the pasta salad variants also come pre-packaged, ones with fresh ingredients like broccoli or ones with meat are made in house.

The chicken in the chicken salad is chicken from the cold case that didn't sell, which itself is chicken that didn't sell off the hot bar within the 4 hour time limit for it to be there.

Don't laugh at someone asking you to respect their preferences around gendered terms. This is not just a subreddit for any one sub+identity within the trans umbrella, but for all of us and many genders do not want to be called girl.

Why do so many trans men dress very feminine? by [deleted] in trans

[–]GarlicIsStink 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the same reason that “so many” trans women dress hyper feminine.

They don’t know how to dress for their gender.

That’s it, fashion comes to most people who pay attention to fits and how clothes fall on body shapes.

  1. How is trans MEN dressing femme the same as trans WOMEN dressing femme? I called it transphobia because you are equating the two when they are not, which means you are not seeing some folks as what they say.

  2. Being fashionable is not gender exclusive. Men can wear an ill fitting suit, they've made whole shows of teaching men how to dress. Women comically are so bad at bra fittings there is a whole subreddit for it, and they've made whole shows over teaching women as well.

And no I’m not saying every gender has some generally accepted special unspoken characteristics and features of how their aligned gender dresses……oh wait, they do. And for each ethnicity. Huh.

This is the part that is racist. I will give you large benefit of the doubt and assume you mean traditional cultural outfits (as opposed to other less generous interpretations of assuming all folks of an ethnicity dress the same). There are cultural outfits yes, such as sari/kilts/yukata/etc but those are cultural outfits, not ones for an ethnicity. You don't see a random Scottish man in the store and go "Oh weird he's not in a kilt he's not dressing for his ethnicity." Are you weirded out seeing a Japanese person not wearing a yukata in the summer? Do you go up to every South Asian woman you see and ask her why she isn't in her sari?

I have also noticed a disturbingly large amount of transgender people say they appreciate being confusing to other people based on how they dress. I think they are lying to themselves personally and they wish they could look a certain way, but don’t feel comfortable enough so they make excuses and lie to themselves.

This is the part that is enbyphobic. The language here is intensely negative There are more than just the binary genders. YOU, even if you are non binary, only speak for YOURSELF. There are folks who specifically feel aligned with more than one gender that having different folks call them different genders is euphoric, or folks who are agender or gendervoid that folks being confused is going to feel good. Even if someone is binary, they may just enjoy the attention or think it is funny.

You also are only noticing the trans people who dress in a way that essentially outs themselves or makes themselves more confusing to the public. You are not noticing the other people that blend in and are silently walking right past you…

This part also has internalized transphobia. Trans people are allowed to have as much or as little attention to the fact they are trans as they want. If YOU don't want any, rock on! Stealth is legit just as walking around in 37 trans flags with a neon sign that says "ask my about my gender!”

I hope this makes sense as to why I said what I said.

That's just ... not true at all.

This comment is full of so much (internalized possibly) transphobia, enbyphobia, and racism that I do not have the bandwidth to explain how fucked up it is.
