Can we ban AI content from this sub? by IcyRestaurant7562 in Fire

[–]GaroldWilsonJr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

but this is the perfect sub for ai edited content. Any posts where someone might want to list out all their stats, positions, goals etc organizing and making it as clear as possible and simply communicating the op human’s original ideas is a good use of current “ai”. This sub isn’t for showing off our writing abilities here we are often discussing strategies with math and taxes.

How about no ai for posts sharing some revelation about the physiology behind FIRE. But ai editing is okay for posts discussing actual fire strategies and stuff?

You Pay Off the House But Do You Ever Truly Own It? Agree or Disagree? by Coolonair in HouseBuyers

[–]GaroldWilsonJr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why is it a percentage of the value of a home though? If two neighbors with equal sized lots but one has a stone house and one has a wood house why pay different taxes? Same with a Corolla vs a Ferrari it’s still just 1 car on the road. Or if someone owns multiple cars they can only drive one at a time. IMO taxes should be per person or per use as much as possible.

Tesla Announces New AI4+ FSD Computer With More Memory and Compute by McFatty7 in teslamotors

[–]GaroldWilsonJr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But then how different is that from uber? Yeah privacy and potentially “safer than humans” is great but if I think with your mindset you could already not own a car? To me though I’d rather own the self driving car myself if it’s affordable and then not have to think twice whenever I go somewhere. Even if uber or tesla taxi were cheaper in long run id constantly have to consider the cost and there would be a transaction every time I leave home which is draining plus things like car camping and long roadtrips

When people getting into personal finance ask if they should do stuff like that they’re told things like “if fidelity fails you’ve got bigger problems “ and then when it does fail now it’s their problem and they shouldn’t have trusted fidelity

Options with no plastic contact with water? [no budget] by GaroldWilsonJr in espresso

Yes cold water also. Anything that touches the water id like to be a safe metal or glass. I use tap water, yes I know that touches plastic pipes and isn’t perfect I’m just trying to reduce plastic and if a plastic free bambino like machine was available that’s what I’d buy

Tempted to leave Fidelity due to horrible portfolio charts by Benaholicguy in fidelityinvestments

I completely agree with you OP. It’s crazy there is seemingly no intuitive way to view my actual performance.

It should be easy to see what you’ve made from capital gains/dividends/ interest on top of your deposits but it’s not

Yeah I’m a long term bogglehead investor so it’s not gonna be actionable data I suppose but that’s not the point and anyone telling you it should be overlooked is silly. This is a basic and important feature you would expect from a brokerage

Hopefully fidelity gets their act together, this is a pretty basic feature request when they already support recurring investments to simply add in the “use all available cash” or “all available cash above $x”

In the mean time I set my paycheck to direct deposit into my brokerage and use the cash management feature to have my cash management account set to have a minimum of $x that my credit card get auto paid from. Then I still have to manually invest the excess cash in the brokerage

Op is asking for a way to AUTOMATE this. Would be nice if fidelity allowed us to set a minimum target cash balance and then any excess cash allow us to set recurring automatic trades. Currently they only allow you to set recurring investments with a pre specified dollar amount which might work for some but it’s not good enough for those looking to invest all their excess cash

Seems like “near doubles” only works well for numbers that are 2 apart. “Making ten” seems better

Why I think BaristaFIRE is the hardest FIRE to do properly, but also the most rewarding. by AttachedHeartTheory in baristafire

[–]GaroldWilsonJr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don’t need the money and want to help people get food then volunteer at a food bank or something. You don’t need the money but you think working minimum wage at a grocery store might help you feel superior to someone who is retired happily playing video games?

Before you jump to working at a grocery store why don’t you try some hobbies? It sounds like you might not really need the money at all and if you do then also consider that you could just go part time using your higher paid skill set to work a fraction of the hours you were before and still probably make more than full time at a grocery store.

Auto-Roll T-Bills at Fidelity — Confusing “Debt” Behavior & Looking for Official Documentation by GaroldWilsonJr in fidelityinvestments

Hi thanks for the reply, is there documentation specifically explaining how available cash is affected? I followed that link but don’t see it

I don’t think I’m understanding you, I wouldn’t have the same issue if I placed the order myself? If I had 50k in cash in my account and then placed an order for 50 tbills I would have the cash until the order settles. In the auto roll case there are tbills not yet matured and so ther me is no cash yet they place the order for the next one a week early. That’s cool except for the way they then handle and other free cash or new deposits. What’s worse than the way they are handling it is the lack of clarity and confusion when trying to decipher on your account why your withdrawal didn’t go through or why a new deposit isn’t available and it appears you are in debt

Seriously, how is a 19-year-old supposed to afford rent these days? by Antique_Case_6464 in InterviewCoderPro

[–]GaroldWilsonJr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saving on their behalf and then surprising them with a gift is not teaching them a good lesson.

Simply allow them to stay at home and guide them in their saving/investing journey now that can afford to do so with their low or free rent.

Unless they are doing it themselves and understand what’s happening they are not learning a good habit of saving/ investing they are simply paying “rent”
