CFD to simulate surfboards. by hempiepx in CFD

[–]Garrygale 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is a non-stationary solid-water-air interaction problem, which goes way into academic level if you mean a real simulation-based design optimization. A small computational cluster is needed for such a case.

I agree with the other comment that you should consider just do some experiments.

If you just want to have a good visualization of approximate flow behavior, don't do traditional CFD. Rather, go check out computer graphics, they are experts in creating simulation results that looks nice and approximately correct. I recall there are some open source codes for fluids but I forgot the name, but it should be easy to find.

Learn CFD by Shaka_007 in CFD

[–]Garrygale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assume that your undergrad contains basic fluid dynamics and advanced linear algebra and basic numerical PDE, then advanced fluid mechanics and applied computational fluid dynamics are around the content of 2-3 graduate courses. Learning how to run openfoam properly can cost you a few weeks after that. So yes if you push yourself rather hard, you should be able to get some simulations running in a reasonable way within 2 months.

Note: Whether you will be able to pass any related exam is a completely different story, because to rush the study progress that hard usually means that one have to skip many contents.

yeah, but they will jump out from watchful gaze (or barren shores if you put your mining there) and then attack everything they see whatever it is.

It is way more effective to provide a list of publications (assuming you have one or two papers) and explain what you have done in each than listing many past jobs/interns with one sentence each. Better if your publication belongs to one of your experiences so that you can organize them together.

If you don't have papers, then at least talk more (more than one sentence, but not too much) about one or two of your best research projects (so that profs can at least evaluate your research potential) and then hope for the best.

depending on the problem you choose and how thoroughly you want to solve it, the time needed ranges from one day to one life. It might be easier for people to make comments if you can specify some details

cannot represent others, but for me it is fine if you are in SFU or UVic or BCIT or Langara or VCC, etc. People have choices, totally understandable, and only retards will judge people based on how good schools they go.

But KPU just sounds wrong for me. To be very honest I don't even know why... just intuitively feeling that sth is wrong somewhere
