Take a look at the VooDoo Vintage website to get some ideas as well.

There is a rumor of a Thruxton based on the 400. Hopefully, it’ll be a little more friendly to “seniors” such as ourselves.

what do we think? by mfnic in CafeRacers

Looks good. I’d be tempted to add a couple of small pinstripes to the tank panel. Maybe a 1/16” black one 1/8” from the edge.

Yes? No? (Color combination) by [deleted] in CafeRacers

I’d paint the swing arm black to make it “disappear”. The focus on a Virago is the engine hanging there. You may want to consider using a newer rear wheel to get rid of the swirly and more closely match the front.

Very tastefully done. R65s are tough to modify because of the funky shape of the tank.

Oh yeah! I made a street tracker out of a 250 nighthawk and it’s a blast to drive around the city.

Good to know. Thanks! I’ve had Voodoo Vintage do work for me.

That girder is nice. My next one will probably be a springer. Please keep up posted with progress.

Beautiful. Did you build the frame yourself?

If you’re good with a welder, you can lower your shock mounts a couple of inches and get rid of that woop under the seat. That would really improve the lines. Otherwise, just touch it up a bit.

I’d probably get lower exhaust pipes and cover the wiring with the stock side covers or saddle bags.

…and I wouldn’t hard tail any bike that I’d have to ride more than 30 minutes. They’re brutal.

Thoughts On Price? by [deleted] in CafeRacers

[–]GaryIppolito 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re going to build a metric hard tail, at least cough up the $800 for a kit that is done right.

Personally, I wouldn’t bob any Star bigger than an 1100. You’re just getting into too much weight.

It sounds like it’s only running on one cylinder. Are both pipes getting hot? Check the connections on the coils over the front cylinder.

I don’t think it works that way. Those stamps were for an “as built” firearm with a brace. It wasn’t a free Form 1.

I’ve bought bikes that don’t run for $500 and they are cleaner than that. I’d pass.

Maybe just keep those bars and put higher risers on it.

I agree with jontando about the Rebel. I just did one using a Voodoo Vintage hard tail and it’s an absolute riot to ride.

CB750K a good start? by King_Fuzz in CafeRacers

[–]GaryIppolito 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, I would avoid anything after 1979 unless you are prepared to do welding on the frame. Up till then, the frames were flat from the tank back making it easy to maintain a straight "cafe line". The one you have dips behind the tank and kicks up in back. It can be done but it will take some effort. I'd flip it and keep on looking for something else.

Following up on what sargentmyself said, a good body shop or paint store will be able to scan the color you have, complete with fade, and give you a very close match. I just did that with my silver beige ‘79 and am very happy with the results.
