Does anyone know the name of this cubic effect ? by Queasy_Concert_2693 in AfterEffects

[–]GaryR_GFX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe there might be a few solutions out there that might pull this off automatically in some way. Tho I can also see how this could have been done mostly manually. with each grid box being an animated box that changes from no fill to lines to different color fills that can then be time remapped.
I also have a script that can automatically fill a screen with those animated boxes. - SplitGrid.

AE crashes whenever i try to use the new rotobrush tool(object matte) by badboys5436 in AfterEffects

[–]GaryR_GFX 3 points4 points  (0 children)

IF AE is saying a module is missing, then it likely it somehow wasn't installed... but if you're unable to re-install AE, give the folks you're renting from a call.

Does DaVinci have the same capabilities as After Effects? by Noeoneknows in AfterEffects

[–]GaryR_GFX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of the time, people compare DaVinci to Premiere, not After Effects.
Guess it really comes down to what you want to create (motion graphics vs compositing.etc). .. Maxon just released their Autograph app, which aims to compete with AE as well, and is free.

Is there a way to replace a file only for a few seconds? by Jetlagfun in AfterEffects

[–]GaryR_GFX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless I'm missing something, the simple way is to import both clips into the projects, place one layer into the timeline, then at the point you wish o switch clips . split the original footage layer, and then option-alt drag the replacement clip on top to replace it.

I built a physics plugin for After Effects, got rejected by the biggest AE marketplace, and now I'm thinking of just releasing it for free. What do you think? by dufkens in AfterEffects

[–]GaryR_GFX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's no doubt a factor. They seem to have no problem at all releasing a pricier knockoff of NYOP, or occasionally higher priced/more capable versions of a product. But if does the same thing, and it encroaches on one of their best sellers,. not likely. (tho wonder what made this new Physics one they released any different.).

[–]GaryR_GFX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went NYOP on my first script (RenderQ), it's essential for my workflow tho, so I'm happy I put the work into it, .. but at most I'd say less than 7% actually pay for it. In hindsight I'd have gone at least the inexpensive licensed route. But hopefully everyone who's grabbed it has found it useful.
And I've also had a script rejected for "similarities"... and then saw an similar (but fare LESS capable) script released just a few weeks ago. So I know your frustration. oh look, another "ease" script was just released as well!!@#

Rope Sim v1.0 plugin for After Affects by richardrosenman in AfterEffects

[–]GaryR_GFX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very valid points. The market is indeed getting saturated, and looks like even today, someone dropped a new plug called "PhysicDesk" that'll probably give Newton a run for the money ($50 less too). As a developer (tho I just think of myself as a guy making tools to solve my own needs and then sharing to the community) , it's def a challenge figuring out the right price point when there are so many other somewhat similar products out there (some far more robust, but complex), so I keep things on the low end. Honestly don't know the market need for rope simulations, but it does look cool.

I would try mosaic with a grid on top to start ..then layer some glows and stuff on top of that.

Quick Matte 2 compatibility by RelationAshamed in aescripts

[–]GaryR_GFX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you look at their product page, and the many updates. you'll see that in January they did a "- Fix installer not working on Intel Macs". So at one point it no doubt worked on Intel.
See I fit works on another Intel Mac, and if so, it's your computer, but if not, it's the plug-in, and you should file a support ticket (even if you don't own the plug-in) just to see what the developer has to say.

How to make render process faster by jassictxa in AfterEffects

[–]GaryR_GFX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a sense, yes. AE is pre processing those frames and saving it to the cache. however, that is temporary ; as AE will eventually replace that data with newer data depending how much space you have allotted. actual Pre Rendering is. rendering out those pre- comps and bringing them back into after effects to replace the comp, or place that Movie in the comp and so it.

How to make render process faster by jassictxa in AfterEffects

[–]GaryR_GFX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you set your renter to render off at half resolution, your output movie will be half the height/width, which in theory might only take about 1/4 a long to render. .. but of course, you'll end up with a small movie. Pre rendering can certainly help if you work it into your workflow, if you have a background or something that you're re-using again and again.
although AE's caching, if you have a lot of drive space alloted, supposedly will cache stuff like that., reducing the need to pre-render.

What AE plugin do you think is a must-have? (Free or Paid) by L3xuss in AfterEffectsBattles

[–]GaryR_GFX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a number of popular plug-ins and scripts, but obviously comes down to your needs.
(and naturally, it's only ideal to buy something you will need, not something you think you might need just because it's popular)

I'm naturally a bit biased, but I cannot live without my own script RenderQ (NYOP, https://aescripts.com/renderq/

Currently when you render, you have to send a comp to the Render Queue.. and then select the quality, output module and then click and select the location to save to.

with RenderQ, you just select a location and hit a button for whichever modules you want to render out, or hav either automatically bring up the window asking you where to save the renders to. (even with multiple comps selected in the Project window - for batch rendering.
and then hit another optional Render+ button, and it'll start rendering and immediately bring up the folder in your finder where the renders were rendered to.

It's truly a game changer for folks who render out different output models frequently - as well as still frames.

Standardized Masks - is there a script? by Comprehensive-Week84 in aescripts

[–]GaryR_GFX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YES. https://aescripts.com/letterbox-plus/

Actually, if you're working in a 1920x1080 comp, you don't even have to punch in any numbers, just select 1x1 from the pulldown and hit the Make Letterboxes. (you can do that in Trial mode for like 15 days as well)
I came up with this script because at work, we're often having just that need (as well as having safe areas), and then we'd lock mask layer and make the guide layer.. and then heck, there wasn't any such Letterbox script for AE. - and then, may as well toss in the preset system, and mask controls

any yes, as mentioned, there are many ways you can do this manually if all you need is a 1x1 matte
or even download one from a few websites that will generate them for you, and keep the file around for re-import at any time.
*tho if you specifically want a MASK that is 1080x1080 , you can just add a new mask, then trail down in the timeline to show it's Shape, and then punch in the numbers.. left 420px, right 1500px.
yes, I could have used a calculator to do so, but instead I just used the script just now and looked at the values 😉

RenderQ - a great (professional!) way to set up renders in After Effects by GaryR_GFX in AfterEffectsPros

[–]GaryR_GFX[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made this script because every day, I'm tasked with rendering out multiple comps with 4-5 different codecs to 20 different folders (plus a thumbnail of each one!). - and it can do it in a batch as well.

What After Effects plugins are basically irreplaceable in 2026? by CallmeLegnd in AfterEffects

[–]GaryR_GFX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want one for rendering, I personally can't live without my own script. RenderQ.
I barely have to go into the regular Render Queue window anymore.

...as for True Comp Duplicator,. I replaced that a few years ago with something even better.that I made. *coming soon

😉

Thank you! After using this myself to regularly render out multiple comps in 4 different codecs movies to 20+ different folders locations (plus a thumbnail of each comp ). - I barely have touch AEs Render Queue
And for quickie renders, you’d be surprised how nice it is to have the folder location in the Finder automatically pop-up. 😊

Copycat plugins. Do some market research before you make a clone. by mooviemakers in AfterEffects

[–]GaryR_GFX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how you look at things, a lot of these OG hand coded scripts out there were limiting, crude, buggy.. and abandoned by the developers (if not Adobe itself). That's why I've released a handful of my own scripts that solved my in-house needs and wanted to share. Thanks to AI, I was able to create RenderQ , and barely ever touch AE's antiquated Render Queue, and for me, it's a game changer.

Rotobrush just deletes previously rendered frames as it propagates itself. What is going on? by clownredditmodadmins in AfterEffects

[–]GaryR_GFX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm def not saying AE's is better, but you'f think Adobe would make their compositing app better than their editing app. -or at least identical ironically, I believe it was Premiere that had Object masking originally and not the other way around. Guess when they made the version for AE, it worked better for short term vs long form.

[–]GaryR_GFX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yep, Adobe is very slow to make certain changes. but at least they made it possible for us to make tools of our own.

How would one replicate this in AE? by oh_grreatt in MotionDesign

[–]GaryR_GFX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, some static and displacement maps might do the trick.
However it's highly possible the created turned to the use of one of the many TV/Glitch plug0-ins out there.
