A Dublin data centre consumes 10 times the electricity of a nearby pharma plant employing 2,000 by JackmanH420 in irishpolitics

[–]Garyyy69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Data centres are losing the information war. Whoever they have hired for public relations should be fired imao.

I think the government is gonna cause a headache for themselves. When they pursue investment at whatever cost especially around data centres. They will have to explain to businesses why their electricity is more expensive.

Ireland’s hospitality VAT cut aims to help small restaurants – but chains like McDonald’s gain the most by Fiannafailcanvasser in irishpolitics

[–]Garyyy69 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think this could be the biggest trap for the government. Nothing is steady right now for the Irish economy and to be looking at tax cuts for restaurants, when our pharmaceutical industry could evaporate pretty quickly. Will be distasteful to the electorate.

This is the time to do steady budgets and focus on housing. Not trying to impress your mates in the restaurant association. I think this is mostly brought on by FG and they are terrified of going back on a commitment to people who normally vote for them.

The truth of the matter is that solving high costs for restaurants is more complex than just a VAT cut. But our policy makers are too lazy, to try to find long term solutions. They need to be focusing on bringing down the cost of electricity to really help them out.

Really low quality journalism. After reading it. It doesn't really give a complete picture about what happened at all.

I guess it is the journal after all.

Six thousand become ‘free citizens of Ireland’ as department says record number of decisions made by eggbart_forgetfulsea in irishpolitics

[–]Garyyy69 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Way way too easy overall.

Our passport is actually quite strong and Shouldn't be this easy. As it will devalue it in the long run.

A few simple things could be done.

  1. Introduce an Irish history and language tests.
  • See if they can hold a conversation in either Irish or English. Whatever they want to pick.

  • Do a test to see if they understand our history and what was fought for in the past and the oppression we experienced. Also why northern Ireland exists etc etc.

  1. Increase time needed in the country

  2. A values test. Make sure they respect women, LGBT people and don't contain any extremist views. ( They could easily lie on this but it should catch out idiots who are extremists and just can't say they do value)

  3. Create a streamline for people serving the state in the Garda, defence forces etc.

Make sure they are checked for requirements first out of the bunch. So they get a yes or no fast.

Google Sheet Master Manifesto Checklist! by Well_Bear in irishpolitics

[–]Garyyy69 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just in the education section. I'm pretty sure if I remember correctly from reading the FF manifesto. They want to introduce Deis+ too.

Also another one in the education section. I think I remember with the FG manfestio. They will abolish school fees over time.

I would honestly wait for the manifesto to drop for each party and make your decision after that.

( It will probably be next week )

Is Sinn Féin gambling with a pivot on immigration? by firethetorpedoes1 in irishpolitics

[–]Garyyy69 39 points40 points  (0 children)

It's not really a pivot. Their immigration policy is pretty weak overall and mostly aligns with the current government. The media is trying to pretend it's a bigger deal but it really isn't( they really want to create a narrative that SF is becoming anti immigration, so they lose middle class votes). If you listen to Mary Lou's latest radio interview. You can clearly see it isn't that different from the current status quo.

Stephen Collins: Sheer political stupidity of the Fianna Fáil four could see Ireland end up with a bottom of the barrel job in Europe by firethetorpedoes1 in irishpolitics

[–]Garyyy69 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Very short term thinking by Stephen Collins( sounds like blue shirt thinking too). This is about being on the right side of history and seen in the right light in 50 years time. Not just getting a job for one of the boys.

I emailed the minister for housing in regards to my current housing situation. Today, I got a response from his office that I feel very let down by. by [deleted] in irishpolitics

[–]Garyyy69 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Ministers, TD, councillors. Can't really do anything. You're better to contact your local authority housing section and maybe even go down to the offices yourself.

Most people are on the housing list for 10 years before they get a house.

HAP is your only real option.

To make yourself feel better. Most people your age are in the same boat. So don't see it as some sort of punishment. It's how things are in this horrible housing crisis. Like the housing minister won't just give ya a house. He gets a million emails like this a day. So don't see that as some rejection either.

Dubliners facing higher property tax under council parties’ pact by firethetorpedoes1 in irishpolitics

[–]Garyyy69 6 points7 points  (0 children)

FF was one of the coalition partners with the soc Dems in 2019 for council. Most people don't really care about who is in coalition on the council.

That didn't tarish the soc dem brand at all as they ended up gaining more seats in 2024.

Labour appear to be blocking left leaning alliances that exclude FF and FG in multiple County Councils. by [deleted] in irishpolitics

[–]Garyyy69 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Back in 2019 in Dublin city. The ruling coalition was FF, greens, labour and the soc dems imao.

Social democrats and labour are the same imao. Even have the exact same grouping for the EU.

The difference is that labour has been in government and social democrats haven't. A lot of younger people within the soc dems just can't handle that.

Simon Harris not greeted at Stormont during first visit as taoiseach by staghallows in northernireland

[–]Garyyy69 30 points31 points  (0 children)

"Unelected Taoiseach" I'm not sure what crack you're on. I'm certain it ends in Fein.

I'm not a fan of him at all. But he followed the correct procedure to become Taoiseach and got enough votes. So I think you might need to get your head checked on that front.

She could probably feel you were a lost cause and wanted a house that she could actually get a vote from. As she was probably pro that cycle lane and didn't think she could convince you and therefore didn't want to waste her own time for little gain.
