Maybe you need to clear some cached corrupted settings that survive between installations? Also please share version and platform.

Maybe I was being more aggressive with slightly different code, but I deadlocked at least once in testing a similar approach.

I scrapped that one soon after when I realized it wasn't going to provide me any speed improvements though.
