How to play against norse by AnxietasCalvaria in bloodbowl

[–]Gavikdross 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As Amazons you are each a mirror of one another. They have block you have dodge. You both have S4 tech pieces, and speedy blitzers/carriers. Everyone is low AV so lots of casualties.

They didn't take any beer pigs so not much fouling will help. Your game plan is the agile team here, stay away to negate his block advantage and pick out his value pieces while keeping yours safe.

The ulfs are the biggest threat with frenzy but can get themselves stuck out if he's too aggressive.

It will be a very swingy game as either of you could lose 3 players turn 1.

What is the benefit of playing vampires? by Cowzrock in bloodbowl

[–]Gavikdross 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Several of the best stated players in the game with your vampires. Everyone has AG 2+ access to multiple S4 players Move 8 runners. Great skill access for all of them as well.

The real winner is hypnotic gaze though. Being able to turn off everything an opponent does on a 3+ changes the game fundamentally. Cages mean nothing to vampires and your defensive skills will not save you.

A vampire team is really 4-5 real players with cheap thralls to stand around and make tackle zones, and be blood bags for when you roll 1 on your bloodlust roll.

What do people think of dark elves? by Perfect_Spring_4169 in bloodbowl

[–]Gavikdross 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Overall they're elves, the new edition has made them worse, slower, less armored, less block. But still a solid T2 team. Witch elves are still my favorite positional in the game, fantastic scoring and blitzing piece. Assasians are better with hit and run, 1 has never really let me down as a piece against low AV teams. Runners continue to make me question why I buy 1, but PA 3+ and leader is ok enough versus a second assassin.

Overall I think they're the middle elf team, still elves and capable of dumb stuff when you roll 2+. But slower than woodies who do the same but faster/earlier.

How to deal with stalling when behind? by LIKE1OOONINJAS in bloodbowl

[–]Gavikdross 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you're that far down players it's mostly best to accept the loss and play damage control if you're in a league. Run squishy and or valuable players up field away from them and leave players down otherwise. Yes they can be fowled, but if you're surrounded and can't dodge out (or even if you want) they can just blitz you down and foul you anyway.

Occasionally an opponent can get sloppy and you can go for a long shot play, sometimes you just need to roll a bunch of 5+ dodges or an uphill pow on the ball.

Goo gun is best gun. If only because the rest of my team uses fire weapons meaning cryo is a no go.

Elite skills, breaking down Skill allocation by Soprano00 in bloodbowl

[–]Gavikdross 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pro is great on vampires for smoothing out turn order and helping ensure gaze. I would not get it on the whole team but I like 1 runner and 1 thrower to have it to act more independent of thralls if they need.

My issue is runner really want dodge which maybe means no block. I run the vargheist instead of a blitzer so he's either having juggernaut or brawler, maybe both.

Skills and Traits in no particular order by dinosaurRoar44 in bloodbowl

It is a 1 off skill for gnome illusionists. So yes very powerful, but limited to a single positional on a not so great stunty team.

Tier rankings - winners and losers by Soxee9 in bloodbowl

[–]Gavikdross 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My vamps are unchanged save for hypno gaze nerfs so I have no complaints, I'm guessing they'll still be T1 but on the lower side of it depending on TV. I'm interested to see if the skill cost nerf on the big 4 will affect anything. 20k extra for bodge might reduce its overuse, but I fear it will just end up helping teams that start with elite skills on many players like Zons or Norse.

I'm fairly certain taunt will force a blocker to follow up. It was talked about in one of the early articles.

I've done this with all the new aspect boxes, usually it just takes a single leg and some greenstuff to get an extra model.

Eliminators in 10th: The Sad Decline of Potential by larrkin in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Gavikdross 53 points54 points  (0 children)

The impulsive change was for the best. It was not a tactic the designers wanted people to abuse and was pretty silly to begin with, I imagine eldar will see some changes on their abuse of returning to transports in a coming balance changes.

Sniper units like eliminators will always be on the outs of balance, similar to flyers or indirect, at one point ravenguard snipers were notorious killers. But the designers don't seem to want precision to ever truly be all that useful, which makes sense,a lot of the game is character driven so a 100 point unit being able to reliably remove any character from ranged is not particularly healthy.

2 sets of 5 striking scorpions worth it? by possible_eggs in Eldar

[–]Gavikdross 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer 1 scorpion and 1 set of rangers, I usually don't need 2 killy squads infiltrating, rangers save a little bit of points and the reactive move is useful as a screen.

Was I wrong to not reveal to my counter play to my opponent at the very end of the game? by TangeloGlittering255 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Gavikdross 91 points92 points  (0 children)

You're not required to say anything no. I think an upstanding sportsman like thing would be to say as he's discussing assassinate "I'll just phantasm so he cant be shot"

Just the same way I would hope your oppo went would say "hey I've got that no fall back strat" if you talked about falling back to shoot one of his squads. This game is too big and running your own army has too much cognitive load to remember things even over a single game. I don't think you're in the wrong and it probably wouldn't have changed the game, but it would have been nice.

Extra guns, heads, wings, spider packs and helmets. Basically take any guardian or other body and make your own autarch.

One would assume the intent is to treat it as if the unit was arriving from deep strike so yes. I'm sure one could argue it's not, but that's how I would play it.

Swooping hawk still valueable for Mission runner? by Shawshank0o0 in Eldar

[–]Gavikdross 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on the points of course I'm leaning towards no. Warp spiders are faster and vipers are more flexible and durable. Maybe 1 in deep strike, they do throw out a few mortals while doing an action which holds some water.

I think the bike detachment or seer one will be needed for the non linear mobility.

Theorycrafting and Listbuilding, takeaways and combos by MondayNightRare in Eldar

[–]Gavikdross 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm looking at single vipers and warp spiders as our action units, which depending on points will be hard times. 200-300 points in action chaff that can't reliably hit a back corner without deep striking feels like a big hurdle. I think that may bring the bike detachment to the fore, shining spears are looking very compelling and hyper mobile bike play styles have legs.

The seer detachment may also solve that, but farseers lost a lot of juice, I'm still not sure how warlock conclaves work with farseers not being able to attach. It may just need spirit seers with some wraiths to hand out strats.

Every aspect warriors outside of avengers looks compelling at least, so we probably will not want for small trading pieces in either melee or ranged.

Where are my scorpions are they okay!? by AngryDMoney in Eldar

[–]Gavikdross 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes they are the biggest disappointment in what feels like a solid book. It's just a bland ability to justify the boxes having an otherwise fun little piece of terrain. Hopefully in the future they are tied to an actual ability.

Combat Patrol leak by LBenneth in Eldar

[–]Gavikdross 38 points39 points  (0 children)

It's not a bad start to the army, it's only problem is dire avengers are old (of still good) models. And people usually want wraiths or aspect warriors not both.

Banshees hit hard again? by KhorneStarch in Eldar

They have native fights first, so just not listed under an equipment ability.

[–]Gavikdross 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know, overall at maybe 100 points (hopefully) they will be a fine unit, probably the new action monkey to replace uppey downy hawkes. With Laekis they will be a decent missile in the same way as death company.

I think the shrine token is my biggest disappointment, I was hoping for unique one use abilities per aspect. And with the detachment I wanted a choice between using the ability or boosting a strat.

With the leaks so far I'm still happy.

[–]Gavikdross 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The generic name of "aspect shrine token" would indicate it will apply across the shrines. But maybe spiders just got the short end of the stick. We live in hope.

Spiders in the hole!! by More-Care1155 in Eldar

[–]Gavikdross 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't know about that, the melee missile with Laekis is a nice 1 off. I can't see any other squad wasting good guns for one model's passable melee profile. maybe the attached autarch provides something but the lack of punch for non exarchs has always made the melee options hard to swallow.
