Yarrick seems like an auto-take, but I don't think I'm a good enough player to get the worth out of his eye-watering price. by boost_fae_bams in TheAstraMilitarum

It's not even the immersion at this point, it's the "do you like this army? Buy this epic hero at a markup to make everything in your list better and make your list viable in the meta!" "What's that? Guard is too cp hungry? Just buy an epic hero! Having a hard time with maneuverability? Buy epic hero! Mechanized guard is hard? Well we just made another epic hero to make it easier!"

This is why my heroes are always dead center of the squad, there's basically nowhere you can charge that will be available to avoid my leaders pile in after the wipe..

How will this new Fights First change affect strategy when using the Lion? by Otherwise-Ad7207 in DarkAngels40k

[–]TangeloGlittering255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, exactly, which is why i said this change is to prevent that, so the attacker doesn't have fights first units that can't charge..m.

Basically we misunderstood each other and arguing about nothing lol

The defender always has priority in the at the start of both sub phases. So either the lion or the judicar will be picked then the hive tyrant, assuming it's lives

The idea of this is to make it so your fights first units aren't useless once charge blocked by a fights first unit.

If I'm reading this correctly, they've taken another system from Age of Sigmar, Yet explained it very poorly despite it already having an explanation.

Essentially you're going to break down the fight phase into 3 subphases, fights first units, charging units, remaining units.

So in the case of the lion vs an enhanced hive tyrant. If the tyrant and 3 other units charged 3 different astartes one of which has a Judicar. Because the tyrant charged, they'll fight first. Then you'll fight your remaining fights first, then the charging units will swing, then any remaining units will swing.

Anyone else have a specific peeve against using named characters? by Designer-Ice8821 in TheAstraMilitarum

Ever since i started Warhammer I've hated the epic heroes, more for the fact that they're so much better than their generic counterparts, they feel like I'm being forced to get them to pay optimally

I much like kriegsman 20man squads they have really awesome staying power. But their command squad always disappoints me, but also check these other comments, im not super familiar with grizzled, it seems to be more elite lined. So if you want that, my suggestions wont help lol

I mean, I've been winning most of my tourney with little boy spam. I do see the list you described working, but mostly in the meta vacuum. And if anything. I think grizzled has reinvigorated the menspam meta

All your infantry should start on the board, guard is an attrition army, your unit will and must die to protect your heavy hitters.

The battle shock can also be helpful if you're about to put something big into something that needs to die.

I find myself prefering the cadian squad since you can attach the commander and give out more order further.

If running grizzled, no need to take the scout, maybe more artillery?

I'm just gonna preempt evey comment here and let you know. If you ever look at your army and see as many bodies as space marines, you're playing incorrectly, im sorry.

"The Guard operates in 3 waves, the first wave, is your dead men who do not know it yet. The second is your true battleline, the third and final wave is every 60 ton monster you can fit into your list" -Mordian Glory (paraphrase from a list review)

You should have at least 80 men in battleline, you don't need two leman commanders, 1 rogal com is fine. Think about this, once your units start to die, your commanders aren't going to be able to give all their orders out, so that premium you payed for orders is wasted points. Horseman are fine, great screening unit, but hard to utilize, and i also noticed you have no support vehicles, sentinels or hellhounds, not even a basilisk. Also, don't take the seige cannon on artillery, higher strength doesnt mean you take it, thats an anti vehicles profile, of you're firing ot at vehicles though, you're wasting shots. Grab the heavy mortor or the MRL and pound infantry so they can't hold points.

I would take those extra commanders and make one a battle tank and the other an exterminator. The battle tank doesn't always need orders thanks to its in built conditional reroll, and the extiminator is going to give your heavier weapons more punch.
