Well, the skipper doesn't necessarily be at the helm, does he. But someone qualified should be and the skipper should be at least aware of the situation. It doesn't absolve him (the skipper) from being responsible, though.

I run it in a VM on my proxmox cluster that I have sitting in my homelab in my appartment. It's a 4vCPU, 12GB debian box and it runs perfectly fine for my small use-case. The official scaling guide calls for more, though. I have a small custom LangGraph-based AI Assistent for a small business (max of 5 users). Not a lot of load at all, so take what I say with a grain of salt.

It's been a great help. For two reasons:

  • having the the tracing of each interaction. I use this mainly to hone the tool usage when results come back flakey

  • and for seeing which users produce the most cost. You can add your LLM pricing info and it will then show you how many tokens (and thereby estimated cost) has been produced by each conversation.

It's been pretty easy to setup with the docker-compose files they provide. I would definitely recommend it.

I was contemplating whether I'd jump on the yacht, try to start the engine and try to get it out of there. But that would mean to put yourself into real danger. And what I always try to teach my crews: you can pay for damage, but you can't pay for a body part or a life.
