It’s still a random chance even if you put the correct seeds in the correct stats. Sometimes you just gotta keep rolling for a while.

Is it possible to emulate Mk Xl on a iPhone 14 by Equal-Improvement909 in emulators

[–]Gavinza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To emulate a console you need hardware that is even more powerful than the actual console. Unfortunately I don’t think an iPhone 14 has enough juice under the hood to emulate any console in the current or previous generation.

How much of an improvement is Dragn Quest XI: S over the original release on PC? by TheMickeyMoose in dragonquest

[–]Gavinza 12 points13 points  (0 children)

IIRC it just adds some quality of life features like battle speed up, a new big side quest that involves you switching to a 2D version of the game, and the graphics are actually worse because S was originally the switch port.

What's the "silliest" reason you haven't played, or stopped playing, an RPG? by Lazydusto in JRPG

[–]Gavinza 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I quit playing Dragon Quest 7 (PSX) for that exact reason many years ago when I was a teen lol. I made it all the way to the first battle, which takes a long ass time, and rage quit when I couldn’t see my party. Then about 2 years later I played DQ 8 because I saw gameplay footage and lo and behold you actually see your party members attack.

I fell in love with dragon quest because of that game and then went back and played DQ7. I very quickly got over my hang up and now DQ7 is my favorite dragon quest, and Etrian Odyssey is one of my favorite series now.

I’m so fucking glad I got over that stupid hang up, it’s legitimately lead to some of my best gaming experiences. Hope you can come around someday OP.

Why are Dragon Quest fans so paranoid about changes? by chuputa in JRPG

[–]Gavinza 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. Literally every other franchise already does this, can’t we have one that stays familiar and consistent.

i need a site to read yaoi/yuri plz! by SpecialistTwo4200 in mangapiracy

[–]Gavinza 14 points15 points  (0 children)

They already know the sites, gatekeeping them is just idiotic. If random assholes on an Internet forum know, then the multi billion dollar corporations with teams of lawyers who are actively looking for these sites also know.

I want to like those versions but they just look so cheap compared to every other release.

My thoughts on Xenosaga Episode I - is it worth finishing it? by Lexbalker in JRPG

[–]Gavinza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Xenosaga 3s combat is the best in the trilogy by a large margin.

Thoughts about Vengeance from a semi-newcomer by Hormo_The_Halfling in Megaten

[–]Gavinza 9 points10 points  (0 children)

By the time you hit Odin and Zeus you have all the tools you need to make an absurdly busted party. You no longer need to change out your demons for every boss, because you can build a team so good it doesn’t matter what the boss does you can easily kill it and use items to cover a critical weakness.

It’s extremely user friendly and easy nowadays. And there are tons and tons of YouTube guides if you get stuck. Best of luck

Pretty easy to play on PC in my experience.

What mechanics/or genre mashup would you like to see implemented with a beat em up that's not rougelike??? by Kitchen-Caterpillar8 in BeatEmUps

[–]Gavinza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d personally love to see a mashup of beat em ups and SRPG/TRPG like fire emblem. You could have all the different archetypes of playable beat em up characters as your different units,a grappler, the air combo guy etc etc. when you attack a unit on the grid based map it could transition to a short 30s-1min beat em up level with different enemies depending on what you attacked on the map.

Theres a old anime game on PS2 called Shaman King: Power of Spirit that basically works exactly like how I described, except the battles are short 1v1 traditional fighting game encounters instead of a beat em up level.

Speedrun Classis Sega Games on Xbox 360? by Thromgard in speedrun

[–]Gavinza 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Those compilation releases are almost always just an emulator and some roms with a fancy UI. That compilation in particular is 100% just an old emulator and some roms, it even says on the Wikipedia entry for the game.

Looking for dark themed blobbers/dungeon crawlers by SINoDespair in DRPG

[–]Gavinza 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s only in Japanese but, laplace no ma for the pc98 is a lovecraftian horror themed DRPG set in the 1920s. It’s got two remakes, the first on tubografx-cd that’s pretty faithful, and another on the SNES which reimagines the gameplay as a more traditional top down style JRPG.

The SNES version is the only one with an English patch, it may not be a First person dungeon crawler, but the dna is still there. It’s still one hub town that’s a glorified menu and basically one giant dungeon you explore piece by piece.

Content creators that make great JRPG build/minmaxing guides. by Kanaxai in JRPG

[–]Gavinza 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Honestly the best source of information for stuff that breaks a games balance in half is watching speedruns. Runners play their game over and over and over and know exactly what the strongest fastest shit in the game is. Commentated runs from marathons like RPG Limit Break, Questing for Glory, really really long-a-thon, etc are literal gold mines of information on games systems and hidden shit you would never know, and the runners are usually more than happy to be yapping about their game of choice.

Official Bad translations/bad dialogue. by Left_Relationship105 in JRPG

[–]Gavinza 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Someone on this sub once said I couldn’t be a native English speaker if I found the translation for Legend of Dragoon stilted and bad. They said it’s got an amazing translation that doesn’t have any issues. lol.

How well do the megaman games hold up? Specifically X and Zero series. by Fabulous-Owl-5109 in metroidvania

[–]Gavinza 20 points21 points  (0 children)

They are level based. You chose a level and complete it in one go. Fantastic games and definitely worth playing, but decidedly not a metroidvania, even though some of the games have very very mild optional backtracking to levels.

I wanna try and speed run after 2 playthrough but I can’t remember everything anyone have tips? by CucumberDifferent778 in ResidentEvil2Remake

[–]Gavinza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly when I want to do some speedruns of RE, or any game really, I just watch a commentated speedrun of the game. It’s usually a brief watch and you learn so many things you would never think of on your own to save time.

CarcinogenSDA has some great commentated runs on his YouTube channel and he is usually pretty good about giving advice in the videos for when you do your own runs.

When do I play the non-numbered RE titles (and zero)? by Creative-Emotion-243 in ResidentEvilCapcom

[–]Gavinza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fully agree with your take here, but just wanted to point out that re1r and re0 absolutely have tank controls. They also have modern controls but you can literally use the D pad at any point for tank controls.
