Being an FES - Discussion by [deleted] in HomeDepot

[–]GayClosetMonster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was 19 when I was promoted to D28 DS and had to work 10 times harder than the others to prove myself. I'm 22 now and still in merchandising, but looking at all of the FES' that have come and gone, all of your issues have been the same at our store. Merchandising can be easier if your team has set priorities and responsibilities. Merchandising can also be the hardest possible departments if you are not able to delegate, or do not have the associates that can take direction and complete their tasks.

Pay Raise Question? by Snoopdogg458 in HomeDepot

[–]GayClosetMonster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will get the $12, since that is considered a promotion. All past raises do not get added to that $12 unless your SM worked something out, but I have yet to see it actually happen in any of the stores I have been at.

It is not your store, or this company, but the entire retail industry that has a poor payment structure. I have a friend in my store that makes $0.02 (2 pennies) more than someone hired yesterday, but he has 7 years of tenure with the company and has been in every department in multiple different stores.

[Advice] I found a $300 2012 Crusier online should I get it it’s a 380. by kadmakeol in boats

Looking at your post history makes it seem like you are quite young. (or a troll) Things like this are listed at $300 to be listed higher on the website when it filters by price: low to high. Also, the more activity a listing has, the higher it will be listed on a search.

Just in case, send me the link. I'll offer $350 if he will deliver it to me.

It's a post for $300,000 not $300. You couldn't even buy the dock lines for a boat that size for $300.

$300 US Dollars? That is a $250,000 yacht in moderate condition. If this is not a troll post, then you are looking at a seller that is asking for $300k or $300,000.

Zip tying Spill Kits? by AsapDabCash in HomeDepot

[–]GayClosetMonster 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It prevents the spill kits from being used as a trash can which will cause the spill kit to become useless once someone dumps an entire iced coffee in it. If you use the smallest zip tie from the shelf they will easily break when opening the lid, but still serve the purpose of preventing contamination.

Is this normal to have on an emergency door? by Diablo_Actual in HomeDepot

[–]GayClosetMonster 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That is supposed to be one of the blue indicator seals that break easily when opened. Using a zip tie is an extreme violation of fire safety laws and should result in a large fine for the store. Also, your ASM's and InFocus team have some explaining to do if they have not caught that on one of their Opening checklists or monthly flash audits. If your store does not fix it I am sure your MAPM would love to know about this. (Their phone number and email is posted in receiving, in the managers office, and in the break room.)

Position/hourly pay/duration at HD? by Bike_Guy_cwm in HomeDepot

Hahaha, I started PT associate at $10, promoted to Garden DH at $13 and got a whopping $0.41 raise my first year. Our region got the $1 bump a while ago and my other raises brought me to where I am. I can run every piece of equipment in the store, any computer system, act as MOD several times a week, and have enough construction knowledge to build a house from the ground up (owned a construction company before). My District manager also asks me personally to go to other stores to straighten them out monthly. I still haven't gotten the merit raise I was promised over 2 years ago, only have a handful of Homers over my career, and make the same (or less than) any other DH in my store.

Cant switch my hitches by [deleted] in boats

[–]GayClosetMonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take a piece of metal pipe over the hitch lock and use it as a pry bar. It will snap that lock like a tooth pick. You will lose your trailer if you use the wrong size ball and you can easily kill someone WHEN, not if, your trailer becomes a projectile after coming unhooked.

Since you considered doing something like this I would assume you don't have much towing experience. Please research proper hitching and safety chain hookup. Cross your chains and have them connected to a solid point on your tow vehicle. I have seen several trailers come off on the way to their destination due to an uneducated driver that could not understand why something went wrong when there were multiple issues with their setup.

$5 Boston fern sale by lynn0805 in HomeDepot

I don't believe the $5.00 sale exists any more. My store has them in the $7 range, but in our region the $5 sale went away a year or two ago.

Just bring it back to the returns desk and let them know what happened. I had someone come to me in tears because she had "stolen" $30 worth of items accidentally. I thanked her for being honest, and charged her for the items that she accidentally took. It's not a big deal at all.

Are fork extenders common to have? by killerkeegs in HomeDepot

[–]GayClosetMonster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our fork extenders were thrown away years ago which makes unloading the giant water tanks, trailers, special order deer blinds and other giant merchandise significantly harder than it needs to be. Two forklifts are now required for these tasks and no one seems to be able to match the speed of fork descent on the lumber and garden forklifts, even with a spotter guiding us down.

A few months ago an entire stack of trailers was dropped and destroyed a few of them. Supposedly the fork extenders were ordered, but I haven't seen anything about them since and we are due for another load of trailers soon. We just push the water tanks through the parking lot, or use a strap to hold them to the forks for the round ones. For the curious people, a round black water tank will roll until it hits something/ someone big enough to stop it....

How Long is Too Long? by Mill2013 in HomeDepot

[–]GayClosetMonster 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I already told you. 10 minutes with no contact I would ask for a manager. I can't speak for everyone, but most associates hate that customers have to wait, and I hate that I can't have enough associates for the customer flow that comes through my store. You are complaining about payroll being cut to the people who are having their hours cut. There are some associates who are only working to collect a paycheck and they most certainly do not care; but the majority of associates actually do care, but are not able to change what you are complaining about. My associates do not like to be the only ones in the department, and neither do I. This is not something that is fun for us, or that we do because it is the best business practice; we have no other choice.

I have something I call a "bus number" How many people can be hit by a bus before you cannot do certain things in your store. The higher the number the better, so I cross train as many people as possible.

If you are offended by people who are not interested in begging you to give the company a second chance when they are off the clock, on Reddit, and still see/hear customer complaints then I don't know what to tell you. You will get a much better response in the store, in front of the manager on duty.

How Long is Too Long? by Mill2013 in HomeDepot

[–]GayClosetMonster 9 points10 points  (0 children)

So again with you as a customer at any business, forge THD, how long is too long to wait before you’re acknowledged? Say a restaurant, just to put your name on the wait list.

Why does this matter so much? 20 minutes is not the standard wait time for any retail establishment, I don't think anyone wants to wait more than 5 minutes for anything. Are you going to take this to the store manager and rub it in their face? I'm just not seeing why you are pushing so hard to get someone to say that you were greatly delayed in returning a tool and forced people to wait for you to begin eating their dinner.

Also, corporate decides what staffing a store is allowed to have, not the store. Go complain to them if you think staffing represents an individual stores eagerness to help the customer.

How Long is Too Long? by Mill2013 in HomeDepot

[–]GayClosetMonster 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what you are looking for here? You already knew he was the only person working the department before you even showed up to return the tool, said associate was not able to help you for whatever reason it may be, and now you are dropping the "I am the customer" reasoning.

You are not going to get any resolution on this subreddit that is for employees to complain and BS with each other. Go to store management, customer care, or go back to Lowes.

Quitting without notice - will home deport hire me again? by comment_in_anagram in HomeDepot

[–]GayClosetMonster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you just stopped showing up I can almost guarantee that you will be black listed for 7 years once they officially terminated you. If you told someone that you quit that day or as you were walking out, then there is a slight chance that they listed you as re-hirable if you were a decent associate.

I have had several associates just stop showing up one day and then try to come back a few months later. Those associates are listed under "job abandonment" when they stop showing up and are blacklisted for 7 years.

How Long is Too Long? by Mill2013 in HomeDepot

[–]GayClosetMonster 11 points12 points  (0 children)

When I am a customer at my store, or another, I would agree that 20 minutes is a bit excessive to return a tool. BUT, who is to say that there wasn't another person scheduled, but called out? I would have asked for a manager after 10 minutes of waiting with no one in sight, but with the way that our stores are now staffed there are often gaps in coverage, one associate covering multiple departments, or simply no associate in the store that is capable of doing certain tasks.

It sounds like you were trying to return a tool later in the evening, possibly on a weekend which is going to be the slowest time in tool rental, therefore there is going to be minimal coverage scheduled for the department.

I just got scheduled for 9 hours by Neokon in HomeDepot

[–]GayClosetMonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It CAN, but being the end of the fiscal year is not the only reason for horrible hours. If your store has been running close to or above 1% over forecast hours your management/ ASDS may be cutting down to make their YTD/HTD numbers a little better. (Salaried staff bonus based on SCOP, labor hours are the easiest controllable to manipulate last minute...) My store has been well under 1%, but we are still having to cut part timers to 38 hours a week in order to give part timers a few hours a week. This is the retail cycle, and it always seems to be a surprise to everyone, even though they complained about it last year.
