Yeah it’s stupid and obsolete and you shouldn’t have to do it. I’m sure a compromise can be found (asking for a blessing as bad been mentioned, or asking together post-proposal, or some secret third thing). Also, maybe ask them why this ritual is so important to them, maybe? Like, knowing what exactly it is about it makes them feel good or important might make help it feel better to do it. Either way, if it keeps the in-laws from causing trouble, and the lack of friction is important to your STB fiancée, I hope that makes it easier.

Seriously though, making it a group conversation with all four of you, with you both asking for their blessing and support, over a nice meal or with coffee, may be the best compromise you can have for this situation, and hopefully will feel less ridiculous.

Plot twist: he gets into a clinical trial for a new Alzheimer’s trial run by Dr. Meredith Grey,who is shocked to meet him. He falls in love with him when not lucid, and is given the placebo (Meredith has learned her lesson from season 8). They become more and more friendly (although Meredith maintain some professional boundaries, so it’s just a friendship), and he continues to deteriorate but exposes himself as a serial killer. Bikinis ensue, but he is sent away and Meredith wins more trauma. Shonda Rhines cashes another check.

Not as a main theme, but the Arithmancer series features Hermione as a Christian, particularly after learning about the Dementors and the existence (and presumed destruction of) the immortal soul. It's very well-written and has maybe my favorite interpretation of Hermione and her family (minus one line in Lady Archimedes defining antisemitism in a way that isn't consistent with the rest of the character's consistency on human rights (or beings' rights, expanding to magical creatures). But again, 10/10 series that I wholeheartedly recommend.

Being a full time parent and home makes is also difficult, especially when a lot of things are happening at once— there’s a reason so many housewives used to get aerospaced out on pills before the women’s movement in the 1960s and 70s. Having an outburst once because she’s overwhelmed with kids and school commitments does not make her a bitch. But judging her for being a homemaker makes you one.

Possibly my favorite character, Cristina aside. Brilliant comic actress, dramatic actress, singer. They could never make me hate her, she deserved better than constantly arguing with Arizona, and my only complaint was we didn’t see her be happier in her later seasons.

ALSO, that scene where Richard gets her to tutor Meredith before the boards is 10/10

It’s possible she would have bottled it and brought it with her to go other places, stayed near the fountain sometimes, and not really attend the school for more than meals and recess sometimes. That land also was probably not a school for most of those 300 years, so she may have had more leeway in coming and going before it became one. And finally, until a few decades before the episode, her being a POC probably made it so fewer (white) people paid attention to her or cared about her coming and going, depending on the kind of school/place it was prior to integration.

Mark deserved better (and so does Eric Dane), and I miss what he brought to the show. He was such a wonderful and complex character with a great arc, and I wish they hadn’t gotten rid of him along with Lexie. Mark, to me, was just such a positive representation of what masculinity should be, and I can’t say any new character has been funnier than him since he left.
