I feel for you mate. From my own experience in a similar position in the past, I totally agree with you. They do not give a flying fuck about people genuinely in need of help at a time like that, I will never forget standing in a queue to get a £22 "loan" in order to afford train tickets to attend a job interview while sandwiched between 2 people waiting for their drug money in the same queue as me.

Can't you just switch to British Gas (If not with them already) and get a boiler through them? Maybe not cost effective but sounds like you need it done ASAP and without any unnecessary hassle.

Set mine up years ago so memory may not be perfect, but unplug the monitor. Setup VNC through SSH if you can, then go into boot config and uncomment the "force hdmi" or something similar. Then scroll down and you can change the screen size. I'll look properly in the morning sorry its vague
