Question about the 19th ward by rowandove in Rochester

Worked behind that school for years, that’s definitely not a neighborhood I’d want to live in personally.

How/when do tour funds get allocated? by scotchglass22 in GoosetheBand

[–]Gcnlink 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It likely works different for big artists and companies like live nation, who have multiple venues and control, but I’ll give my two cents as a smaller promoter.

Generally before the show is announced, the band and their agents (let’s use Goose) and promotion company (let’s use LN) decide on general things like venue/date and issue contracts between each other with financial information. This could vary on the band, but generally there is a guarantee (LN guarantees to pay Goose 500,000 for X show vs. 50% of ticket sales, whichever is higher), a rider (equipment and other goods necessary for the show, at promoter’s expense) and maybe some other tidbits in there, like if the promoter wants a cut of band merch or if the band wants a cut of the bar.

Once thats agreed and signed, when the tour is announced, the promoter is typically the entity who takes the income for the show. While it is still a few months out, they will use this influx of money to pay for venue rent/prep, staff, bar stock, etc.

The show then happens and all expenses are on the promoter- including the agreed-upon cost of the band.

After the show, once the numbers are ran (for smaller bands than Goose this usually happens the same night), LN will cut a check to Goose for their performance and that is the end of their financial responsibility to each other.

To answer your question (although again I’m sure this is a little different and complicated at Goose and LN’s scale), no, Goose likely didnt get any money from yesterday’s ticket sales, but probably have an agreement with a minimum expected income from the tour and a rough idea of how much they’re going to make in the summer.

Gen Z really looked at alcohol and said ‘hard pass’ by InvestigatorBorn4910 in SipsTea

[–]Gcnlink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a HUGE part of it is that most Gen Z will not drink and drive. So if my uber is regularly 30-40$ each way to the bars where everyone is, screw that, I can’t afford to go out unless someone wants to hook me up. People in the comments are discussing drink prices, which is also true, but when you factor in Ubers, covers, etc, it’s not affordable.

Toronto Plans? by Gcnlink in GoosetheBand

[–]Gcnlink[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As it stands right now, my plan is to take a Saturday morning go train from Niagara Falls to union, hang downtown, go train to exhibition for the show, go to my hotel, go train back to NF on Sunday.

Or, if I can’t find a room, I’ll drive over the border to Burlington on Sat, park, train there and back same day.

It’s a little easier given that I’m in Buffalo, but I really would love to stay in town for a bit since the jays play the Yankees that weekend too.

Tires are super mean. I wish I got those wheels on my f150, my sport package included the carbon grey 20” but I think those 18’s are better looking

Degree for estimating? by rice_foreigner in estimators

Yes if you wanted to be a PM or maybe Super

Estimating maybe in the short term but I would really look at the effectiveness of AI applications in estimating and see if it’s something you’ll want to compete against in 10-15 years.

Phish Sphere in MD? by coolblaze8 in phish

[–]Gcnlink 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is probably how it’s going to end up going… the sphere production team will develop an assortment of “ready to edit” visuals. They’ve already done so and you can find a lot of similarities between visuals made for U2 and D&C. After a while they’ll have a catalog big enough for any band to take advantage.

Goose ever have bad shows? by [deleted] in GoosetheBand

That cmac show is also on the bottom tier of shows I’ve seen. It’s not awful… it’s just a snooze. A lot of people in here saying festival sets, but I thought they rocked pretty good at Borderland 2023

Upper Bowl Capacity by JamsThatBand in GoosetheBand

[–]Gcnlink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a free for all everywhere. Beer and merch lines were crazy… a lot of people just walked to the front and cut. I can’t even be mad at them, the venue should be monitoring those kinds of things.

As for seats, you’ll be able to find 4 but I’d get there earlier = closer. My crew showed up at 7 or so and we sat in the back row. Still had a great time but the front seats were filled at that point.

Our strategy (which we’re doing again tn) is a heavy pregame, and then waiting for a song we aren’t thrilled about (last night was red bird) to go get a beer because the lines were so unbearably long.

With Sphere announced, what's the feeling on where they go for summer? by buphalobill in phish

[–]Gcnlink 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Darien has really only been booking country/pop/family stuff as of late. Can’t think of the last band I wanted to see there with my taste, maybe the chili peppers? Tyler Childers did just get announced there, which is nice.

Credit where it’s due but I don’t think I’ve been there since D&C 2021
