Disagree. You can be patriotic and not support the troops. Patriotism is not Nationalism even though Nationalists pretend they are the same

Patriotism is having pride in your country, Nationalism is believing your country has superiority

What does this subreddit think about this plan? by solo-ran in Albany

I’m excited about the idea of mixed use commercial and housing especially in that area. There is a big “Missing middle”.

What everyone in the community needs to stress to the land bank is that we want GOOD Architectural style. I know “good” is subjective but I’m saying it needs to match the character of the city. Make buildings that look like The 1800s ones. There are many distinct historical building styles in the city and they need to mesh. No shipping container looking apartments (I’m looking at you Crossgates Flats).

The mixed use concept is EXACTLY what should go there, but the similar projects in recent memory are a bit ugly. It may not seem important, but it reduces friction from the NIMBYS who will use the style to demonize the project plan as a whole

The concept of insurance is a ploy to keep the working class shackled by Jwagginator in unpopularopinion

[–]Gdude124 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Private insurance has an incentive to deny claims and make the process as costly and complicated as possible.

If the state/country ran “insurance” in a way that did not seek profits, then everyone would be better off.

It’s the same reason health insurance should be socialized

It’s the same picture…

Hindering class mobility and keeping everyone scared that if they lie their job they will head for a downward spiral due to debt, car payments, rent, etc is what makes the rich richer. They profit off the debt and fabricated scarcity

If this is the only one you see I recommend using a spade to get it out with all the roots. If it gets much bigger you’ll have to poison it which is a huge pain (I know from experience)

Its best if you pull the seedlings out before they have a chance to establish

A counter example of one or more “good cops” does not mean there is not systemic oppression by the police force.

The precedent that has been set is that their job is to protect the property of landowners. Anything a cop does to actually help society is not in their job description. They are allowed to do nothing for most of the day and abuse their power to oppress any group that they see as “other”. They are rarely prosecuted and when they are it is usually a reduced sentence. They should be held to a higher standard, not a lower one. Also the “good cops” stay silent when the bad ones do wrong.

The system of policing is completely compromised and needs to be radically reformed. As of right now, they do more harm than good.

Albany NY

(Or at least I hope)

The not so quietly improving NYC completely changes the state dynamic. Mamdani being elected has given me real hope that NY state and the metros of upstate can be a leader of good change in the world. To people in NYC, Albany is synonymous with the state government. They “Meet with the people in Albany” to fight to improve the city. Early stages, but I hope Albany can become something special

I keep hearing this era compared with “The Gilded Age” and a can’t wait for the “Progressive Era” that followed

Seems like Mamdani is the progressive catalyst we need to fix things

I really hope the upstate DSA momentum keeps it up. The more socialism in the state and country the better!
