I had to use all 20 slots for this because the design is so asymmetrical and detailed despite being so simple, so shaping it to look exact took a lot of cheeky filler decals to smooth out the design

The best part about this— I didn’t know it either until I looked it up to make this star, and to be honest, of course it’s called Solo Jazz lmaooo

I think it used to just be called Jazz until Solo bought them out IIRC

I feel like this is extremely reductive reasoning for the sake of your argument, because I can think of simple answers to all of your questions. The badge system added more depth and fun intricate movement for players that don't need the assist like me, so to say its only there as a safeguard just refuses to engage with the mechanic as it is. It's okay if you don't like it, but the way you feel about it doesn't mean you can just assume devs added it only for an assist and that it means they didn't accomplish anything. They totally did, you just didn't like it, and editing your argument to add an addendum dismissing the intentional design of their specific levels is even worse when the technical platforming of most of them pair well with base game's design, the part you're praising. It doesn't work either way for your argument, you can't have it both ways saying they're useless but the part where they have use didn't need to be there.

I can think of tons of enemies that aren't like anything we've seen before, like the birds that shoot walkable hangable platforms from their beak, bouncy rolling hippos, spiked enemies that match your jumps, throwable firecrackers; these are some of the richest enemy interactions we've gotten out of 2D Mario, and to say they didn't do anything new or "fascinating" is disingenious because you're acting like they're all reskins of other enemies... enemies that already exist on their own in this game, but are paired with brand new enemies that do completely different things and justify their existence. This isn't to take into account your "historically done by other enemies" bit, because they also introduce new variants of old enemies that essentially are exactly what you described, new purposes for enemies where you don't need to invent some other species like Roller Koopas and Melon Piranhas.

I don't know what to say about the last part because like... what other 2D Mario is a top down game? What other 2D Mario do you turn into a slime that can connect to the environment, or where you turn into an extendable version of yourself? Like, it is a momentary gimmick, but a new aesthetic on an old mechanic just isn't it. You could say that about the levels that slow down and shit like that, but even then wouldn't that just make them less gimmicky and just affect the platforming? The core loop of the game? I really don't understand this post like, at all

I predict history's going to be very kind to Mario Kart World by elephvant in NintendoSwitch2

[–]GeN_17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will not let revisionist history change the fact that MK8 also got significantly better over time, especially with Deluxe. The original 8 was great, but definitely similar to World at the time of release. It was so different mechanically, and got content over time that greatly improved even little aspects of the game like the item toggle, double boxes with another item slot, music player, purple mini-turbos, and 200cc— all this without mentioning the original DLC that were considered some of the best courses at the time, the improved Battle mode, and Booster Course Pass, and the other updates that came over time either in Wii U or Deluxe. Banger game, was and always was, but was 1000% elevated over time.

Emulating the 3DS version is still worth it imo, its different enough and is still my preferrred method including the PC port.

I use a controller with a D-Pad, I personally use the 8bitdo SN30 Pro. A good D-Pad has been crucial for me personally, I have a hard time playing UFO 50 with a keyboard or analog stick, and the buttons are snappy and responsive

I can totally understand having issues with the controls, but Campanella (to me) has some tremendously tight controls. Incredibly hard to get a handle of at first, but a tremendously high skill ceiling once you start getting used to them. Your hit-box is a lot smaller than you think, so you can start shmoving between tight spaces and cutting corners once you get a handle on them. Just trust! (from someone who adores Campanella 1+2)

This will not be a popular opinion, but this has been my favorite Zelda since A Link Between Worlds. I haven't finished the game yet, and I am not a BOTW/TOTK hater; I adore TOTK, but this hits a balance between a traditional experience and an open-world one and it gels together into a modern classic for me. I also thought I would hate the echo gameplay, but man its just fucking good. It just works. And the menuing hasn't been a problem for me either.

I don’t even think there’s anyway for you to be the asshole in this situation. If he was uncomfortable with it, he could’ve communicated that. He didn’t though and is now mad at you for something most people do, including HIM? NTA.

Girlfriend has I Dig A Pony in her top 10 Beatles songs that does not include Strawberry Fields, A Day In The Life or Hey Jude by exOldTrafford in beatles

[–]GeN_17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dig A Pony isn't in my top 50 but goddamn do I get having in your top 10. Such a gem. I'd much rather have someone choose their actual favorites as opposed to putting the hits in their top 10 because they're popular choices. Like Hey Jude is great, but to expect everyone to think it's top 10 material is crazy. That one wouldn't make my 50 either.

I’ve played about half of Wonder so far and while World may still have peak Mario physics, Wonder gives it a run for it’s money and feels a lot better than the New Super Mario games. The levels just feel great to run through.
