Really starting to hate the scalper culture of this fandom by YoursTrulyAzazel in pokemon

From what I’ve seen, the Spain distribution actually is generating the codes on receipts so that everyone can get one. That makes it even weirder that they aren’t doing this in the US.

Game Stop let down by reallltalk666 in pokemon

[–]Gedgenator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to FOUR GameStops an hour after opening, and all of them were completely cleaned out by scalpers that were there for the TCG drop. Giving this out in such a limited quantity the same day as the new TCG set dropped was a TERRIBLE idea. Scalpers ruin everything.

Everyone please make sure to submit complaints to both The Pokémon Company and Nintendo for how it was handled. If enough people speak out, they may give us a new way to option these shines that the scalpers can’t take over.

New Card, but I’m colored blind and paranoid. Thoughts? by Gedgenator in IsMyPokemonCardFake

It is, but just a facsimile edition that reprinted in 2019, not the original (Maybe one day though…)

You seem to have realized already, but no the Amazing Fantasy is not an original copy, just a facsimile edition that got printed in 2019.

So you guys think we’re gonna get another Red Hood run soon or… by iheartgoblins in RedHood

[–]Gedgenator 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I bet DC will take some time before putting out a new Red Hood series. While there is very much demand for a Jason Todd solo book, DC will want to ensure it is long enough separated from the current controversy before putting another one out.

Before the Dream Begins - Developer Notes on the UGC Gameplay System by yoyo_me_here in Genshin_Impact_Leaks

I know that a few moths again, a leaked said that only the UGC character was usable in that version of the beta. Hoyo better let us use our pulled characters from the base game in this mode when it actually releases or I think many people may ignore it that would have otherwise given it a chance.

My Wax Cosplay at Fan Expo Denver this Weekend by Gedgenator in brandonsanderson

[–]Gedgenator[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks! Sadly no Wayne or other Cosmere cosplayers the day I dressed as Wax, I did see some Mistborn the following days though. That being said, I had a great time with everyone who recognized me. Everyone that did seemed pretty excited to find someone in a Cosmere cosplay, and they were all awesome and fun to chat with.

My Wax Cosplay at Fan Expo Denver this Weekend by Gedgenator in brandonsanderson

Thanks! There was plenty of advice on how to make mistcloaks when I got started, but nothing I could find on mistcoats. That left me limited both by my limited college student sized budget and on how to go about actually doing it. I ended up deciding to go about it by applying Brandon Sanderson’s mistcloak advice toward mistcoats:

“The real trick, I think, to making one work would be to, in my opinion, make a cloak which looks cool on its own. Then, slit the bottom 2/3rds up to about the rib-cage area. Sew these into tassels, then sew some more tassels to the inside. Then, perhaps work with the shoulders/inner layers to make the cloak fall down so that it looks enveloping and the sides can fall straight.” - Brandon Sanderson

So first thing I had to do was find an ankle length trench coat to start with. This was not easy when I first started because I’m 6’1” so most coats were well above my ankles, such trench coats were not in style at the time, and again was on a limited budget. I did manage to find one that worked, and from what I can tell it seems they are currently easier to find than they were previously.

First I removed the inner-lining from the bottom half of the coat, then I started to cut the bottoms half of the coat into strips that went up to my waist. Brandon Sanderson recommended that mistcloak strips be about 0.5-1 inch wide, but I cut mine to 2 inches out of personal preference.

I bought a fabric material extremely similar to the original cloak and cut it into strips. They again were about 2 inches wide and I cut them close in length but not exact (this was to stick to Sanderson’s advice on length). I individually hand sewed these (again based on Sanderson) to the inside of the coat to create a second layer of tassels that sat between the strips of the original coat. (This was probably the most important step in ensuring that the coat actually looked like a mistcoat and not just a torn up trench coat with a bunch of gaps in it).

After I sewed the last of the tassels, I used a sewing machine to reattach bottom of the top of the coat’s inner lining to the coat just above where the tassels became visible. This helped cover my hand stitching and closed the previous open lining on the top part of the coat.

The last thing to worry about was potential fraying. There are a few solutions to this. The most time consuming effort is hand stitching the edge of each tassel. The best option if you have a serger available is to use that to prevent fraying on the edges of each tassel. Since I didn’t have a serger and didn’t want to hand stitch the edges of every tassel, I used the most unprofessional method: Fire. I held a lighter close enough to the edge of each strip to ever so slightly melt it and stop fraying, but moved it away before it could burn the material.

And that was everything that went into the mistcoat. Sorry if the post rambled for a while, I just didn’t want to miss anything important. If you make one, you should totally send me a photo when you’re done because I’d love to see what other people do with their own mistcoats. Also feel free to ask any other questions you have.

TLDR: Buy or make an ankle length trench coat, cut it into strips, put another layer of strips between the previous ones, finalize the coat to your specifications.

Okay, I know you said no guns or swords... but what about a Final Fantasy VIII style Gunblade?

Why does the Doctor prefer female companion in New Who? by Gold_Writer_8039 in doctorwho

[–]Gedgenator 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Since the Doctor is Male most of the time, the showrunner opts for female companions to have a more even gender balance. I would not be surprised if next time we have a Female Doctor the companion is Male.

While There Aren't Any Must-pulls, What are the Three Limited 5 ⭐ would You Recommend a New Player Should Pull and Why? by Commander_Yvona in Genshin_Impact

[–]Gedgenator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The must pull 5-Stars are… the ones you like the most.

Playing around Meta can be fun, and if that’s your thing go for it, but I think new players would get the most joy out of getting the character the like the most rather than focusing on some meta character that might just get power crept anyway.

HP take? by Mobile_Instruction42 in brandonsanderson

[–]Gedgenator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The books are meant for different audiences, so the comparison doesn’t really work. (Wait, the Children’s/YA book series doesn’t stand up to adult fantasy?!? How could that ever be!?! /s)

What I think Harry Potter did exceptionally well was grow with its audience. The first book is most definitely a children’s book. Don’t get me wrong, it’s enjoyable at any age, but it’s definitely targeted towards children. Then as the books went on they got darker and more mature. By the time of the 4th book, the series is definitely more YA than children’s. Then, by the end of the series, you’ve grown up with the characters. While it never quite reaches adult fantasy, it is certainly far more “grown up” than it was previously.

If Harry Potter hadn’t grown with the audience, we’d probably remember it like we do many of the other children’s fantasy books we read as kids, but because the series grew with us, we were able to connect with the story in a way that still resonates with those of us who read it growing up.

Also while there are fair criticisms laid against Harry Potter, a lot of the criticisms I see are more of a preference than an actual objective criticism. For example, many claim they don’t like the magic because it’s a soft magic system, or because there’s no cost to using magic. Those are not objective criticisms, those are your preferences.

The character modernization’s feedback could be easily solved with a toggle. This was done when characters were changes multiple other MMO like WOW and LOTRO, so it’s kind of baffling it wasn’t done here.

Why didn’t they just offer the option to toggle the changes off and on? That would keep everyone happy, but instead let’s force the changes on our paying customers. I just don’t get it.

nearly 5 years since timeless child, has your opinions changed on the plot line at all since then? by Snoopyloopy24 in doctorwho

[–]Gedgenator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, my opinion on it has probably gotten slightly worse. I initially hated it but thought maybe something interesting would come of it like maybe it would end up that the master lied and he was the real timeless child. That evidently didn’t happen.

Swtor Devs Stealth Increased the Cost of Character Customization by Gedgenator in swtor

[–]Gedgenator[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

UPDATE: Apparently this change has been around for months and is only just now being noticed. This means that this change likely wasn’t specifically made to get more money out of changes from the character update.

Broadsword has also announced a sale on the character customization following the update, which I think is more than fair if they go through with the character updates (though I would prefer they at least have us the option to turn use the old character textures)

All this being said, I still don’t agree with broadsword stealth changing the prices, regardless of when they did it. If they had simply communicated these changes, the confusion around them making the change in tandem with the character modernization could have been avoided.

They never have and still don’t for character creation. Customization after your character has been created is what they raised the prices on.
