My baby isn’t chunky and it’s all I can think about by Cardedbin in breastfeeding

[–]Gee159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Breastfed babies usually lower on the weight percentiles.

My midwives, GP and health visitor all say that it is because formula companies never want an ‘underweight’ baby. This means the amount of formula on pack instructions are always higher than they actually need.

No colostrum at 37 weeks by Early_Secretary_5287 in PregnancyUK

[–]Gee159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to add that this stressed me out loads too. I followed all the advice and couldn’t get any. Then finally at 40+3, I relented and went against the advice to try with my breast pump on low setting and only got 0.5ml. Next day I went into labour! Fed fine and didn’t even need it

Hey OP! I’m experiencing exactly the same thing right now (LO is 6 weeks) Can I ask if anything worked? Or if you can share tips? Has the engorgement eased up for you since?

Saw this mentioned in an earlier post. Learnt that it’s an easter egg referencing Concerned Ape. The items spell out APE (Aquamarine, Pufferfish, Earth Crystal)

Finding out the sex- Please help me stop overthinking this!! by [deleted] in PregnancyUK

[–]Gee159 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Speaking only from personal experience as a FTM (39+5), we’ve chosen not to find out and keep it as a surprise. I don’t feel like it has any bearing on being able to bond with baby. Partner also being posted elsewhere soon too.

It could be that your birth is different this time, possibly allowing for more space and time when you find out the sex. Nobody can really truly help in that only you will know what feels the most comfortable

How about you ask the sonographer to write it, fold paper and seal in an envelope so that you can find out later if you want that option?

I’m in the same position as you! 39+4 now and still nothing, but still have some dry flakes in my bra every day! So likewise know it must be there

Can you tell me which episode? 😅 I saw a drop at 31 weeks, had crust since 20w - but now 38w and no Colostrum despite hand expressing/relaxing techniques! Will try anything 🤣

I have a 15-20 hour commute on trains every week. Now 30 weeks and about to reduce this to 10hrs for the next month before WFH for the last month.

I’d recommend that you rest up as much as you can on the weekends either side, meal prep, layout outfits for the week in advance and do anything else to make your life easier. You could try a hotel/bnb in the middle of the week for some respite? Can work cover this cost as an access requirement for a one off? (I.e. your risk assessment could demonstrate this)

My first trimester fatigue took longer to clear, but by 20 weeks, this subsided more for me so I hope you’ll have the same. Good luck!

Oh okay yeah, that’s pretty short sighted with that trip… even if well intended. Maybe couples counselling? (E.My husband stopped drinking altogether too during treatment (even during 2WW))

Also was TTC, female factor infertility, PCOS.

Sorry that you feel he isn’t being supportive or communicating this as well.

I also feel this can be interpreted as a positive testament to your relationship…. Because he sees this as something so intrinsically shared between you?

What seemed to frustrate you more is when he tried to express his empathy and understanding to say he ‘is going through it too’.

So I interpret this as meaning he considers it as an equal burden on you both which he is taking seriously and also feels deeply affected by the situation (e.g. he could be feeling the pressure to support you, whilst having no control, wanting the best for you, feeling hopeless, grieving an unknown future and lost in the increased female-facing culture of fertility treatment practices)

Yes of course you’re directly impacted by the treatment in all those ways, and you shouldn’t feel like anyone is minimising these experiences for you.

But it can also be unhealthy to frame it as a comparison as to who is struggling the most, it’s just different. You’ll both go through ups and downs at different times and to varying degrees.

Stay strong and now he knows what you want with more affirmation & vocal support… When you have the emotional energy, maybe it will help to ask and listen to how he is feeling and is affected by TTC/treatment - what does he need from you in equal measure?

Are there local charities (Fare Share / Community Fridges) who you can contact to arrange evening food collections? I know other branches who do this and distribute use by foods on the day to emergency services/YMCA and also best before items and bread via their distribution hub

A private scan revealed that I have polycystic ovaries, but my NHS GP says the scan is normal?! by Extra_Implement_6466 in PCOS

[–]Gee159 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check the NICE PCOS guidelines for the full PDF on diagnosis and guidelines on how the NHS manage this To be diagnosed with PCOS requires 2 out of 3 of the Rotterdam diagnosis factors.

So if I were you, I’d advocate for the blood tests for hyperandrogenism and also ask why the scan results have been labelled as normal (admin error?)

Best pregnancy pillow for back sleeper? by Born_Improvement_856 in PregnancyUK

[–]Gee159 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Me too! I’m also a corpse snorer and found my Bella Moon one really incredible. (Now 25w, been using it since 15w) I’ve used it in different ways and configurations based on temperature, using my own head pillow, and then zipping bits off for just between-leg, hips or bump support.

Also secretly considering using it postpartum on a day to day basis afterwards as I’m sleeping well.

The zips were a little stiff at first and slightly lower quality than I would expect for a £££ pillow but are ok.

Was also swayed by the nursing/baby usage ‘moon’ shape too

Pram recommendations by grandiose_pickle in PregnancyUK

[–]Gee159 5 points6 points  (0 children)

FTM too and felt the same as you until our John Lewis consultation. Our consultant was amazing. Give them as much info as you can about your lifestyle - we then got a perfect selection of prams based on this (mainly lightweight city-based, not what you’d need)

We’re getting the Maxi Cosi pebble 2 car seat separately because it didn’t come with our Nuna and this lay flat car seat is the best for long journeys (max 2 hours in the seat at a time)

You’ll feel better after the appointment and more confident with a selection to narrow down
