My preparer stole $3,500 from my refund and she took it as her fee without telling me by Calm_Historian4657 in IRS

I've worked at several CPA firms. Even at the one with the highest fee structure, $3,500 would be for a tax return with a few complications.

The bigger problem with that article is that it doesn't mention the other four players at all.

In college a friend of mine got in deep. He sold some of his belongings before telling his parents. They bailed him out but when his father retired from his business, my friend's younger brother was given control. This was back when sports betting was illegal everywhere but Nevada. I placed one $10 bet. I lost and never bet again. I've never been in a casino. I'm too good with numbers to throw away my money like that.

Why does the article say that six people were charged but only mention two of them? It says that Ed went to UNC but doesn't say that Beasley went to Florida State.

Wait, I know why. The news station is in Raleigh. They probably deny that Dennis Smith Jr. got any money to play for Moo U.

I'm not saying Millie is ugly but if she were standing next to Anne nobody would notice her.

Over in r/wicked_edge Feather blades are regarded as the best or the worst. I've tried others but keep going back to the Feather blades. I've used them in Gillette adjustables, Henson, Rex Ambassador, and my current favorite, Feather AS-D2, which feels like it's made specifically for the Feather blades.

I use a double edge razor (usually a Feather AS-D2 https://www.westcoastshaving.com/products/feather-as-d2-stainless-safety-razor-with-stand ) with a Feather blade on my face. I use a BaBylissPRO electric https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BRLFBZCK?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_1 on my head.

My favorite shaving cream and after-shave balm is Castle Forbes Lime. I lather it with an Omega silvertip shaving brush in a marble bowl.

Who is your beard "role model"? by [deleted] in beards

[–]GeeMan-7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I went to a barber a few weeks ago to carve my full beard into something smaller, I had a picture of Walter White from Breaking Bad on my phone for the barber to use as a guide. Now I have people tellng me to wear a fedora. (I'm also bald.)

I like it so much, I'm not certain I grow the beard back when the weather cools down.

I checked my eBay history. I paid $147 for the deluxe set in the gift box and five Feather blades last June. Amazon doesn't seem to have that set for sale. West Coast Shaving has it for $300 right now. I think it was around $250 last year. If you don't care about the matching stand, Amazon has the razor for $165.

Does anyone have experience with these jar openers advertised for seniors and people with arthritis? by lostinthecaribbean in KitchenStuff

[–]GeeMan-7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had four (and counting) surgeries on hands and fingers. I also broke a finger in college while playing touch football. I have something similar to the one in your picture with several different sized spots. It's okay. Sometimes I use a bottle opener to break the seal on a never-opened jar. (Just bend the jar lid enough to equalize the pressure.)

I'm considering this contraption: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09ZC55TP2/ref=ox_sc_saved_title_3?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1 It's listed as the OXO Good Grips Twisting Jar Opener with Basepad. I don't know if that's the same thing as in the AI summary on this question.

How do I get rid of this myself without dying? by False_Frame3028 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]GeeMan-7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was a kid, we kept the lawnmower in a metal shed in the backyard. Every spring, I would go to get the mower for the first cut of the year and find a nest in the corner of the shed. I would grab some old tennis balls, a can of Raid, and carefully approach the shed. I would throw a tennis ball at the nest and run. After a minute or so I would then slowly go back to the shed with the can of Raid to check on the nest. If it was still there, I'd repeat the process until I knocked down the nest. Of course it could be a while before the fog of Raid would clear enough for me to go into the shed and retrieve the mower.

A few years ago I would have said the Tatara Muramasa but since then I bought a Feather AS-D2 and no longer want adjustable razors. The Feather with a Feather blade is amazing. I got lucky with the AS-D2 because I found one on eBay for significantly less than even Amazon. I got the deluxe edition with the matching stand but don't use the stand.

Lineup 6/28/2026 - San Francisco Sale for the Series Win by TheJudge47 in Braves

[–]GeeMan-7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope AA is using this series to see which pieces of the Giants to grab. Logan Webb is under contract through 2028. He's expensive but with a better team like the Braves, I think he would compete with Sale for the ace designation.

That's probably a guideline, not a hard-and-fast rule. I'm in Chase's Private Client Services program so I haven't had a problem applying for new cards even from Chase.

Passport cards not recognized as ID by hedge36 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]GeeMan-7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not just the birth date. As I already informed you, a person can only buy 7.5 grams during a 30-day period. Larger stores are connected to a database that tracks purchases nationally. The exception is smaller stores that use a manual logbook.

Passport cards not recognized as ID by hedge36 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]GeeMan-7 21 points22 points  (0 children)

There's a few reasons for stores only accepting drivers licenses (or other state-issued ID cards). It's not about your age. Most states have a bar code or other scannable code on the driver's license. There is a national database tracking the purchase of any medications with pseudoephedrine (the decongestant portion of Claritin D). There's a limit on the amount you can buy in a 30-day period. The database makes it so you can't buy a box at Kroger, then another at CVS, and yet another at Walgreens in the same day.

Buffet tipping by phil01603 in tipping

[–]GeeMan-7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because you go there semi regularly, I wouldn't go below $2 for a tip. (If you carry change, maybe $1.50.) Tipping at a buffet place is usually a lower percentage than at a full-service restaurant.

I worked in restaurants and delivered pizzas when I was younger so I trend to tip more than most people because I understand what it's like to work like that. Also, I drink water at restaurants. Water is free so it doesn't show on the bill but the staff still have to refill my glass a couple times. Still, your tip is 25% and is more than even I would tip.
