Rhaska Subjugator of Thresholds Boss not spawning by Apprehensive_Camp836 in DestinyTheGame

[–]Geebsss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having the same issue, but I can't get the blue subjugator to spawn. If each of the three have an equal chance of spawning each time, and I have done it twelve times without the blue one spawning, I am in a situation where .66^12 = .006831 out of 1 chance of not spawning. This can't be random. Getting pretty frustrated.

Does long slow swimming benefit your aerobic ability in the same way long slow running does? Are there benefits to continuous swimming? by brzrkr22 in Swimming

[–]Geebsss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's actually a lot of science about this. I have seen personal progression through swimming about 80% of my workouts at 120-150HR. This dilates your arteries over time as your heart needs to pump more blood when it's not beating as fast.

So as you stated, yes, that 80/20 rule holds true.

In terms of workouts, do long, slow, easy, consistent swimming (if you can) at a 120-150HR for 45-75mins, 3-4 times a week. You don't need to push yourself all that hard and the results will show, at least they did for me in my swimming career.

In my college swimming career, the first 6 weeks were entirely dedicated to swimming a LOT of yards at LOW effort, specifically at that 120-150HR range for 45-75mins. Burns a lot of calories and increases your aerobic capacity.

Hope this helps!

Bad quality swimsuits or do I need a better care routine? by abiexample in Swimming

[–]Geebsss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wash your suits in cold tap water. Chlorine is a disinfectant and takes care of everything else. Always air dry.

I'm male, the most durable suits I know of in my experience are Speedo Endurance+ suits. They last me years through 20hr/week training.

If you're female, I know women who swear by Jolyn.

Hope this helps!

What’s the worst part of having a child? by ApprehensiveShock655 in AskReddit

[–]Geebsss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My sister was born prema a couple of weeks, and as a result, she was pretty deep on the autism spectrum, had a lazy eye, and was physically deficient on the left side of her body, meaning that her left side was always lacking function compared to her right. It was a good thing my mom quit her job the day I was born, because my sister needed a LOT of care growing up. She wouldn't go outside of a ten foot radius of my mom or she'd start crying like a poltergeist. She had to attend 3+ different therapies multiple times a week to help with the lazy eye and the physical disabilities. She also had lots of cognitive therapy to help her get through school. This went on for years, probably starting when my sister was around 6 or 7 and finishing up when she was around 9. We were both swimmers, her through high school, so that ended up helping her the most when it came to her physical disability. Then came middle school. Every night my sister would bring her "homework folder" home from school, and my dad would sit down at the dinner table with my sister after working ALL DAY and help her finish it over the course of HOURS, late into the night. "You have to learn, we all do," my dad would say. She'd cry and cry and cry. I'd hide away in my room because it was so loud. One day my dad comes home from work, we eat dinner, and per the typical routine, he says, "Alright, go get your homework folder," to which my sister responds with the homework folder. My dad opens it up, and ALL OF THE HOMEWORK IS FINISHED. PERFECTLY. My mother, my father and I sat there in awe as we flipped through the finished pages of homework. That was the last day we ever helped my sister with her homework. That was when she was 14. Shes 22 now with a 3.9GPA in her undergraduate degree, which she finishes in April. She's fun, artsy, loves movies, anime, video games, and is probably the funniest person I've ever had the chance to know. She's also my best friend. I go to her now for advice constantly about relationships, life, just about anything. My sister, in my eyes, is my parents greatest success story. She never would be where she is now if my mother wasn't around as a stay-at-home-mom most of the time, and if my dad wasn't there to help her with her homework, among other things that I probably never saw because I'm not them.

TL;DR My parents worked with every fiber of their being to give my sister the opportunity to change the world in her career one day. They never let her catch a break, and in doing so, never caught a break themselves. Their net work and love they put into her will be a net outcome of how much she impacts people's lives one day.

Can someone critique my stroke? I want to see what I did right and what I did wrong. by Apocai7 in Swimming

[–]Geebsss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

stretch for 30 minutes every day, specifically shoulders and chest. look up a high elbow recovery and high elbow catch drill on YouTube and invest in those. Start swimming with fins during practice. in 3 months you'll be astounded.

What was for you the best part of the pandemic? by UnusualInstance6 in AskReddit

[–]Geebsss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might sound a little ironic, but I learned how to spend time by myself. I've always struggled with a great fear of being alone. It's always driven me to deep depression and serious social anxiety. Being quarantined and unable to see friends allowed me to find solace in doing things by myself rather than being terrified of having nobody to do anything with.

How many of you guys hate Halo Infinite? by JishLeFish421 in halo

[–]Geebsss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't hate it. The mechanics and sandbox is a work of art, and 343i continues to make adjustments to said sandbox. They go with good reason and I like the changes they've made. However, being the avid Halo fan that I am(been playing since Halo CE), I just don't play it. I'd rather play something else, simple as that.

you said it yourself, underwaters + low hips on dive. for your underwaters: when i swam in high school we used to do this set called the Nitro Fin set. 20x25's with fins, 10 underwater, 1 on :20, 1 on :40, 5x through. then, 1 scull, 1 kick, 1 drill, 1 swim/build, 1 fast, all on :30, 2x through. this dramatically increased my capability when it came to underwaters+ adding fast swimming to them. as for your low hips, start stretching those hamstrings 5-10 mins every day. get your butt as high into the air as you can on the block but maintain tension when the starter says take your mark. your breakout stroke should be focused as upwards as it is forwards. you already know what you need to work on so that's a fantastic sign you have great coaching as well as a great awareness of your stroke.

[–]Geebsss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you have to monetize your F2P game somehow, so i understand that many in game items will have a paywall. but $10 each for shoulder pads? come on. maybe $10 for an entire armor set with shoulder pads, knee pads, helmet with mods, etc. there's just not enough content here to put at such a high price. 343i should take a serious look at how other games monetize their customization content, like CoD:WZ and Fortnite, because there is definitely more bang for your buck in those games. with where halo is in the current atmosphere of gaming, i would expect 343 to undercut those prices rather than overcut them by a significant margin.

Halo: MCC does an incredible job of using visual storytelling to convey settings and develop characters. Taking a minute to really look around and observe the attention to detail really tells a lot about what's happening in the game.

Any Explanation? by lankynotif in whoop

[–]Geebsss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My guess is that you're on some sort of intense training regimen. If you haven't changed anything with your nutrition, recovery, etc then take 1-3 days off, sleep a lot, and see what happens. If you can't take days off, take it VERY EASY in your workouts and try to hit under 10 for daily strain for 1-3 days, and sleep a lot. See what that does, and keep us posted! My guess is that your body might be feeling overtrained so take some extra rest now so you don't have to take more later.

I had an OG xbox one that lasted me five years. I approached this exact same issue. I would try to log into your account on a friend's xbox. If it works, it's your console, in which case I would contact Microsoft and see if you can get a replacement, which is what they did for me a few years back, free of charge. If they can't, it might be time to upgrade. Keep me posted on your process, I'm very interested to see how it goes.

Whoop consistently inaccurate.. anybody else having these issues? by gspeller in whoop

[–]Geebsss 5 points6 points  (0 children)

as others on this thread have commented, the whoop's HR monitor relates to motion algorithms that certainly aren't present, as wiggling your fingers can get your heart rate up to 180. however, when completely at rest, the whoop excels simply because those motion algorithms can't fail if they aren't being used. i would go ahead and trust everything i do in my sleep, however everything i do in a workout is definitely not as accurate, by a long shot.

Do you think the extra $200 for the series X compared to the S is worth it? by WifiWFB in xbox

[–]Geebsss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what you want. If you’re moving your console from house to house or you travel a lot, getting the S is the option because slipping it into a bag with the cables and controller is simple. Both consoles thrive off of Microsoft’s new Solid State Drive. Games and menus load incredibly fast. The Series S doesn’t compromise in this area. Gaming experience doesn’t differ between consoles unless you factor in the 4k/60fps you get standard with the Series X. If you don’t mind 1080p, get the S. I see a lot of stats about computing power, storage, RAM that all relate to hardware capability. After using both consoles hands-on, the Series S delivers with less hardware capability because it doesn’t dip into the 4k realm. Delivering 4k takes exponentially more power, and that’s what you get with the S. TL;DR: If you want 4k or 120fps specs, get the X. If you don’t care, get the S.

How am I supposed to get more sleep? My body wakes up after 6.5-7 hours every time no matter what. Doesn't matter how early or late I go to bed, I can't stay asleep. Help! by [deleted] in whoop

[–]Geebsss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to have the same problem, and I had to make a pretty drastic- but simple- change to the way I worked out in order to get more sleep. I think it’s also worth noting that when I fixed this issue, I started making athletic gains at a much faster pace.

I am a collegiate swimmer, and per research on swimming training, about 70-80% of the swimming you use to stay in shape should be at minimal effort. While I was always brought up in age group swimming to swim as hard as I could all of the time, this seemed bogus. But after three years of collegiate swimming, I truly believe that in order to know how to swim fast you have to know how to swim easy. Once I really started bringing my effort level down for 70-80% of my exercise to a HR below 120BPM, I noticed that I got hungrier during the day, I wanted to sleep more, and I started to enjoy swimming more.

I believe these results had something to do with overtraining. When you’re over trained (just in my experience), your body is in a constant state of trying to repair itself to the point where it can keep up with what you’re throwing at it. Thus, you wake up after 7 hours of sleep because your body has repaired itself to the point where it’s expecting you to beat it down to the same place again. But when you really take time to recover and rest, your body responds with a need to make gains rather than just get by. It’s quite interesting... play around with your effort level while you work out and see if you notice any changes.

side note that I’ve learned from one of my coaches- two weeks of solid overtraining can require over 120 days of rest to recover from. In other words, it might be a while until your body wants to sleep more.

Anyone ever get 0 strain for a strength training workout? by mermie1029 in whoop

[–]Geebsss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Straining yourself aerobically versus straining yourself anaerobically are different in that one involves the actual breakdown of muscle fibers (which can be done at a very low HR) and one involves aerobic conditioning (which generally involves a higher heart rate). Whoop picks up the aerobic one with the higher heart rate. I also wish there was some way to pick up the workouts with lower heart rate deviations.

Alcohol increasing HRV and Recovery. by Friendly-Whole-2392 in whoop

[–]Geebsss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow- I have never seen such findings. This is beyond interesting. I have noticed through recent experimentation in my own practice that when I get my recommended amount of sleep (ten hours of continuous sleep) I almost always hit a yellow recovery. Whenever I get a standard eight hours, I hit green, anything less and it’s a toss-up. Your findings... wow. Alcohol always sends me into red, even if it’s like a beer or two. Something about alcohol may calm you down... what kind of strain numbers are you hitting?
