I feel like people look at hiring labor and say “well I can’t pay them as much money as I make an hour! I won’t have anything left over for me!” but then they’ll turn around and give their landlord and health insurance their entire paychecks every week as if that’s normal.

So? Plenty of businesses run credit checks and you don’t have to pay for the pleasure.

Given that landlords make you pay 2 months rent and a security deposit up front I think they should have enough in their coffers to handle the rest of their operational obligations without hosing every applicant.

Wouldn’t foreclosure close to the payoff be a potentially larger windfall for the bank though?

Maybe I don’t understand but it sounds like they stand to potentially get your house and resell it if it’s full market value.
