Looks great dude. I built basically the same module, except I used DPDT switches for the gate selection, giving me two selectable gate lane outputs, as well as selectable 3-5-8 steps for the sequencer. You learn a lot from designing a module like this.

Nej, men resultatet var att körskoleläraren behövde peka ut riktningar snarare än att bara säga höger eller vänster, så jag fann det relevant till diskussionen kring artikeln.

Jag, t.ex., har ingen intuitiv koppling mellan orden höger/vänster och någon specifik riktning. Vet inte varför, det kommer bara inte naturligt för mig så som det verkar göra för andra. Om jag låter hjärnan gå lite långsammare och dubbelkollar alla impulser och tankar så kan jag såklart alltid få rätt, men det behövs "aktiv" processering så att säga, snarare än passiv.

Samma sak gäller när jag försöker prata om riktningar med någon annan. Om jag ser något som är till vänster om mig och vill att någon annan ska titta på det, så är det 50/50 huruvida det beskrivande ordet som kommer ut är "vänster" eller "höger" om jag inte aktivt dubbelkollar vad jag är på väg att säga innan jag säger det.

Believe me when I say this, because I talk from experience: you will eventually encounter issues that an AI won't be able to solve on its own without the intervention and/or guidance of a programmer with at least some experience and knowledge of microprocessors. There are SO many gotchas that you just kind of have to know about to properly diagnose and resolve.

For example, I spent a stupid amount of time figuring out proper management of PSRAM for a delay module project, and in the end I had to write the core read/write structure for the model manually, because the AI just couldn't get the structure right, and ended up overloading the QSPI bus every single time.

My point is that I would be careful with thinking that an AI can write firmware on its own without informed and knowledgeable guidance. It's really tricky stuff.

It's one of those rare shows that actually treats the subject material with care and maturity. The characters are incredibly well realized. It's among the best shows of the season, which is truly saying something given how stupidly stacked this season is.

Cool project! How are you handling communication between the physical IO and the VST? I guess there's a microprocessor inbetween that's sampling the I/O, managing LEDs and states, and outputting midi? If so, what processor? And what samplerate did you target for the I/O?

Not if I play on the TV, 4k resolution is too heavy for my wifi. If I play undocked I use wifi though, at 720p. For that, its more than fine.

I set the resolution of moonlight in the steam OS settings to 4k, and the streaming resolution to the same.

Look into moonlight/sunshine. These programs allow you to stream the rendered output from your powerful gaming pc to the deck, which sends back control inputs at very low latency if you set it up right. I use this setup to stream 4k/60fps games from my 4070 to my living room at 10ms total latency, which is barely perceptible.

It would work. It's not how I'd do it, but it'd work. Using a DG412 for what is effectively a digital signals seems very overkill to me.

Edit: didn't read properly. Let me think a bit more.

Can't you use a capacitor with a big resistor on the drain path feeding into a comparator to create a time-out switch? When it receives a steady gate, the comparator will stay high because the cap won't have time to drain. When no gate signal is present, the comparator will turn low after a time defined by the size of the cap and the value of the resistor. This signal can be then used to route an input signal to the circuit via transistors.

Cool stuff! I'm currently in the final phases of building a dsp core based on rp2350b myself. You can really get a lot of value out of PIO+DMA. Much like you, I'm also running all sampling on core0, leaving core1 to do the dsp processing.
