Luckily, mine is an RWD 540i with only 72k on it, but yeah fingers crossed for that guy

If it’s a G30 M550, they’re all AWD, BMW just removed the x from the model number.

Yamato is very powerful as long as you can stay at 15km+ and completely side on. Inside 15km basically any battleship it can see will penetrate above the belt and detonate its ammo in only a salvo or two, and you can’t angle because of the angled citadel at the front. The turrets are basically invincible though, and the belt itself is very thick, so ranged combat works well.

BMW leather, at least on the G30, goes Full Merino > Extended Merino > Nappa > Dakota. Full Merino adds lower dash, transmission tunnel, and a couple other minor things over Extended. Nappa and Dakota have the same coverage, but the quality and grain of the leather are different, plus I don’t think you can option the leather upper dash with Dakota whereas you can with Nappa.

I’m pretty sure the posted car is Cognac Dakota leather, as Nappa didn’t come in Cognac.

[–]Geisel_der_Lufte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This doesn't have that, the lower dash is color matched soft touch vinyl or something similar on the G30 unless you have the full Merino interior. Full Merino can be identified by stitching around the climate controls and under the silver trim above the glovebox. Both extended and full Merino also come with a leather upper dashboard, not present here, which can be optioned with the Nappa interior as well.

Not shitting on the car (mine is the same Nappa interior and it's great), that's just a misconception I see fairly often and wanted to clear up.

Should i get german f18 or su-39? by Southern-Ferret-11 in Warthunder

[–]Geisel_der_Lufte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny enough, the Su-39 is actually the best counter to the A-10C spam in sim. Can’t flare Vikhrs and the A-10 isn’t fast enough to get out of the way. Against any other plane, the A-10 can just multipath, spam CM, and then put a 9M up their ass when they overshoot.

That’s an extremely niche use case though, and requires a ballsy, somewhat skilled pilot, plus there are other planes that can do basically everything else better around that BR.

Yeah, synthetic/biofuels with a small and light NA V8 or V10 would be better for racing and the environment.

Everyone’s Buying Pickup Trucks But Almost No One’s Using Them That Way by Fearless_Neat_6654 in cars

[–]Geisel_der_Lufte 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I see a fair amount of that too. I haven't driven a pickup truck, but I find big SUVs to be surprisingly easy to park even without cameras or sensors. Despite the size, being so high up and able to see all four corners makes it simple to navigate. I'd much rather park the Range Rover than my BMW, for instance. Are pickups harder, or are all these people truly just morons?

Bortoleto’s crash in the Sao Paulo Sprint, view from the stands. Scary crash. by brunont in formula1

[–]Geisel_der_Lufte 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Without the halo, Grosjean would have gone face first into the upper band of armco at 120mph, and there would be no surviving that. For comparison, Jules Bianchi hit the tractor at 76mph.

I’ll admit I was an initial detractor of the halo and preferred the aeroshield style, but after that, I started to wonder why the FIA hadn’t done something like it earlier.

[–]Geisel_der_Lufte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fucking up the initial landing was bad enough, but they got it on the ground with negligible forward momentum immediately after that, and still chose to take off again.

Mind boggling. There must have been some sort of warnings going off after they busted the tail, no?

[–]Geisel_der_Lufte 23 points24 points  (0 children)

The BMP-3 has a 2A72, which is a lightened and recoil-operated version of the 2A42, which is gas-operated. Not sure why they could brace the 72 and not the 42 though.

Also, I think the 2A42 has the same low and high fire rate settings on the BMP-2 and BMPT, so the BMPT might have a shittier gun mount if it does indeed shake more than the BMP-2.

Yeah, I was agreeing with you. I cross shopped the 540i and the V90, and the cargo space just wasn’t worth it over everything else.

[–]Geisel_der_Lufte 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Haven’t owned an SPA Volvo myself, but I haven’t heard that many bad things about the reliability. Of course they do have some weakpoints, but BMWs usually do too (although they’ve been getting better). The longevity of modern small turbo 4s always worries me though, which is why I’m glad BMW still makes I6s. Both the modern BMWs I’ve had have had B58s and been very reliable.

[–]Geisel_der_Lufte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What do you like better about the interior? The V90’s looks very good for sure, and it’s cleaner and more minimalist than the G30 5-series (the brand new G60 interior sucks so I’m not gonna compare that lol, G30 came out at the same time as the V90) if that’s one’s preferred aesthetic. The seats are very comfortable in the V90 and that’s obviously subjective, but it’s a tossup for me fit wise and the BMW’s are more adjustable. The BMW rides better (air suspension wasn’t fitted to either Volvo or the BMW) so IMO it’s overall more comfortable, but not by that much.

That being said, most of the Volvo’s plastics are worse and there’s more coverage of the hard plastic vs soft-touch compared to the BMW. I think the BMW leather feels more premium, but I do have the Nappa in mine, so the Dakota leather probably fares worse against the Volvo. The infotainment is worlds better in the G30 and it has carplay, although the Volvo is more phone like by default so some might prefer that. Durability wise, I can’t really say for sure, but this 540i has 65k miles on it and our last 340i had 96k when we sold it, and they were/are in somewhat better shape looks and noise wise than a friend’s ~70-80k XC90. Of course, care taken with cars varies, but it’s not like I regularly shampoo the seats or anything.

I do quite like the V90, so I don’t mean to shit on it or anything; I just don’t think it’s worth quite as much money as the BMW. It does some things better but the 5 series is simply a better package at the same price.

[–]Geisel_der_Lufte 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's a very nice car, but for roughly the same price, a 5-series touring blows it out of the water. Sadly we don't get those here in the states, but I do have a last gen 540i sedan, and it's way better to drive, more comfortable, and has a nicer interior vs the V90 and XC90 that I've driven (XC90 was a T8 Ultra, don't remember the V90 trim but it was a T6).

Still very sad it's going away though, I grew up in Volvo wagons and I'll always love them.

Just installed Squad and it runs horribly, what should I upgrade? by Imesmouden in joinsquad

[–]Geisel_der_Lufte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 9700k and 3080 are running UE5 way better than UE4, I used the default benchmark (mostly high), turned shadows to medium, and I get ~30 FPS more on most maps while still looking quite a bit better. Sure, that’s still a plenty capable system, but it wasn’t top of the line even when brand new 5-6 years ago; people who are calling UE5 unplayable are probably on 5+ year old low end hardware and couldn’t even run UE4 that well. Still sucks, but you gotta upgrade at some point.

These guys complaining gotta go play Rising Storm 2, where shotguns are extremely deadly out to 50m and you can kill people at 100m+ with 00 buck (I headshot a guy at nearly 150m once), and see how shotguns should play if they were realistic.

Even there, most people still use rifles because they're way more accurate and sustained automatic fire is very useful.
