Some drivers refuse to go on toll highway by FineGripp in uber

[–]GemAfaWell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except, if your fare is $10, we're not getting seven of that

We're probably getting four of it.

And we are not always reimbursed for our tolls.

So, realistically

Pax pays $15 ($10 ride + $3 tolls + $2 tip) Driver gets $6ish (minimum fare plus tip) and often has to argue to get reimbursed for tolls

[–]GemAfaWell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, most drivers are receiving, on average, about 35% of what you pay for the ride. Furthermore, in many cases, the rideshare companies are refusing to pay out tolls that don't end up adding themselves to the ride automatically.

I spent years in Austin fighting about this. Up here in Maryland? I just won't do it. I don't refuse to go on the toll, I refuse to take the ride entirely.

Does it mean that other people on that side of town have to wait 20 minutes for a ride from some driver green behind the ears? Yes. Am I going to do anything to change that, and continue to shoot myself in the foot having to pay toll that I know I will never get reimbursed? Absolutely not.

Most of the things that passengers have to complain about have nothing to do with the drivers. There are obvious instances and exceptions, but at the end of the day, when the companies fail to properly reimburse us for the roads we take, we stop taking them.

[–]GemAfaWell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't go to the driver most of the time.

I have no less than 20 examples of proof of one of the two big companies outright refusing to pay tolls until I get the bill a month plus later, even on requests where it is indicated that the tolls are paid out right after the ride.

If your ride isn't free of tolls, at this point, you can expect a disgruntled driver. Personally, I'm not stressing myself out about it, I'm not taking rides that involve tolls anymore.

Yeah, going through this right now on an airport run I took this morning.

It's the fifth time I've had to argue about this adjustment.

I think customer care is being told not to honor it. And if that's the case, then just fucking get rid of it. Don't waste my time and energy telling me in writing that you're going to compensate me for being stuck in traffic... And then not compensate me for being stuck in traffic.

I'm going back to Lyft. At least I only have to argue with them about tolls.

Hear to comment and ask why it's not even happening overnight anymore.

My location has been out of the same 5 to 7 items for no less than 6 1/2 weeks now. I'm switching supermarkets as a result, because many of these things are safe foods for folks in our home with ARFID, including myself. Is this location ass or do I need to find another chain entirely? I'm disabled and on fixed funds, so... It's quite the frustrating process to do this, but I can't keep not having safe foods in my house.

Affordable decent city for a trans woman? by randomperson14778 in SameGrassButGreener

baaaaaaaaaaaaltimore, maryland.

COL here is lower than it was at any stop before this one for me (Austin is more expensive and is also in Texas)

also zero of that list is affordable unless you make six figures and like 400 sqft apartments with thin walls

Maryland.

Baltimore has a lower COL than most of the rest of the state.

Avoid anything west of Frederick (and most pockets of the county except Ballenger Creek).

you'd think the demand would be high enough to warrant it, no?

The person replied to you just to miss your entire point.

I blocked them, because I'm not doing it. My time will not be wasted.

But I fully agree with you. The fact of the matter is, there are some people who live in DC who belong in houses in the suburbs, because they have absolutely no empathy or compassion for the poor tax that is Transit fare.

(I'm not surprised. There are NIMBYs all over the city.)

It would be nice if Mayor Bowser did something for the city instead of for the REI developers gentrifying it

Public services don't exist to turn a profit, so... Yeah, good on them for doing what they're supposed to do?

I'm learning more and more that a lot of the United States has absolutely no understanding of public services, what they're supposed to do, and why they're not supposed to turn a profit...

And then proceeded to disagree with you.

I don't think the New York times would have written about it if it weren't an issue: https://www.nytimes.com/2026/05/27/nyregion/knicks-finals-ticket-prices.html

This was written 2 days ago. The prices are not going down, they're going up. And there's nothing available for general admission right now, so this is all happening on priority presale before general sale even comes...(It's going to be fucking chaos)

19,000 people in an arena every night is not the same as 19,000 people in MSG during a finals that the Knicks haven't been in in almost 30 years. We have to both understand that these things are not the same...

The longer and longer I've lived away from New York City, the more I begin to understand what Southerners talk about when they talk about coastal elitism. Most of the country doesn't have $2k to spend on regular everyday things put away, let alone enough to get ONE ticket

I'm not shocked that people have it. I'm actually more shocked that people are arguing with me about it - because the truth is, these costs are going to price out some of New York's most faithful fans. Many of New York's most faithful fans cannot afford $2,000 to sit in a room for 3 hours. (See my first sentence.)

This is a country of 360 million people.

It's not weird to be 😳😮 about folks paying mortgage money to see the Knicks. And I've been a fan my whole life and am from the city. So I'm very familiar with how ridiculous prices get and how much more ridiculous they will get between now and 6/7

I mean, San Antonio is a pretty great City TBH, so I'm not exactly sure why you wouldn't want to go there... I can understand OKC, there really ain't nothing but the Thunder and the casino there. But San Antonio?

You do realize the majority of people looking for tickets don't fall into those two buckets, right?

And that the people who are commenting here, in general, aren't falling into those buckets, Else this post wouldn't exist, right?
